One of Radiohead’s best in my opinion. The climax is unbelievable.
I must agree. From the very first time i heard this song the incredible power of the climax has never failed to take me by surprise....still!
YES
I think so
Yes, one of the best 200 Radiohead's songs I agree.
that's what she said
part 1 (0:31 - 2:09) on D
part 2 (2:11 - 2:37) on D#
part 3 (2:38 - 3:37) on C
last part (3:38 - end) on A# / Bb
damn, that moving chord progression was so crazy!
It’s insanely brilliant. Very much reminds me of the Beatles at their best. And that’s a compliment of gargantuan proportions in my op. Yet Radiohead mimic no one. They are truly one of the best bands of all time.
@@cindyinnew could't agree more!!!!! thanks for your thoughts!!
@@LudithaMusic you are welcome
@@cindyinnew the Beatles at their best were written mostly by Sir George Martin, thats who this reminds me of 🤔
It s not crazy at all. Semi ton 3 times and Relative for the End part. Trumpet play better in Bb grid
"Lets move on yeah", as if nothing amazing just happened.
Just another day at the office. 😂 I imagine nailing it in one take like that and not having to re-record anything can be taken as quite the compliment. Meanwhile, every time I hear the song, I'm like, "Again! Again!"
"That's alright"
Aka nailed a genius masterpiece people will not be able to stop replaying their entire lives
This is probably the best sounding live performance I've ever heard
I think the released the audio as the single version. If they didn't then it was incredibly similar.
@@brokencrown-jackandphil9712 was gunna say this sounds identical to album version!
@@brokencrown-jackandphil9712 They actually did use this recording, they probably edited it a little bit but it's the exact same thing. It's kind of weird being able to see a recording of something that I have listened to so many times...
@@cuvo7285 Jigsaw is the same way if you go and look at the video with the camreas strapped to everyone's heads that video was them recording what would become the album version of jigsaws falling into place
@@flowder8 so that was the actual take that they used? Interesting
Arguably Radiohead's most well-hidden gem.
Not arguably, it is.
@@lekayro2170true that, but please don’t neglect that other thing from Godrich’s basement, called Go Slowly (Maria). Album version is nowhere near, it’s tremendous.
But Daily Mail is Daily Mail. The way he wipes out the spit and looks over the shoulder in silence at the end. The pride and confidence of this man. That’s Thom and his stellar crew, and the soundtrack of our lives.
Enough said.
This and Polyethylene
@@vladimirkelaskin6728where do you find this version of go slowly?
This is a legit masterpiece. That chord change, bluesy piano riff bit is just insane, the musicality and the sonics are glorious. But my favourite bit is the cheesy bass slide just as band fully kicks in! Love it!
Agreed!
I was so focused on the piano and the his voice I never noticed it! Wonderful!
Colin is one of the most underrated bass players ever... incredibly tasteful, classy!
Among my favorites on the instrument.
PS. Not that cheesy if it's your favorite part of this masterpiece! 😉
*classy bass slide
I remember listening to this song on repeat in 2011 on an aeroplane during turbulence bc I thought I was going to die. Perfect song to listen to while you’re dying. 10/10 would listen on my deathbed. 👍
You are very fortunate!
the dreams in which i'm dying are the best ive ever had.
Alrighty
This is beautiful. Funny how pain and fear tend to produce beauty. Thanks for sharing
Wow this is eerie. I had a very similar experience except with the song “4 minute warning” one of my favorites ever.
I like how Thom wipes the blood from his face after murdering that song. 3:56
why was there blood on his face

Yes!. Really luv that
Radiohead are just ridiculous. As good as they have ever been.

linglingjr I’ve loved Radiohead since 1992. Yes I’m old. It was a statement of fact not directly related to the date of any specific recording. They are still amazing.. to this very day.
@@blythemajors9193 Shaddup you sycophant. I've adored them since 1968, far longer than youse have. I knew them as toddlers, and I celebrated their juvenile musical stylings since before they shed their diapers. I knew then.....it was something to behold.
@@blythemajors9193well im not sure they still exist this very day

This is a remarkable piece of music that would make any music theorist's head spin. Thom and Jonny follow no rules when it comes to songwriting
So true
I get that with a lot of mitski songs too, do you like her
Why?
@@ryand141 there are about 3 different keys in this song and you can barely notice it, brilliant
Gta kno the rulez then firget them
After 2:33, every instrument you have heard from the beginning starts to attack you, and the adrenaline rush it creates is unceaseable, just so hard to deal with even after the song ends.
Ur mum attacks us
you mean 2:38
Radiohead have always been incredibly generous with their music. Truly one of the greatest bands of all time.
Ur mum is generous

Should’ve been on the main album, it’s that good.
Its a great song but wouldnt flow great with the rest of the album
Along with Separator, The Butcher and Staircase.
@@User-xw6kd supercollider was the other one
@@User-xw6kd any lesser band would've just made another album with all the tracks Radiohead thought not good or not fitting enough to put on In Rainbows and TKOL, man.
Thats the beauty of it, the song is in D major, he plays the bass notes in a different key, which makes the two sounds of the chords and the bass notes like they are in conflict with each other, as they don't naturally go together, this is probably a representation of how Thom sees society and media like the daily mail.
today is a good day
Now it is 🙌
Yes indeed

@@ntennastohvn yes.
actually, i think it's been the most perfect day i've seen
This one really hits me. It sounds so emotional, not emo or crybaby, but legit emotional. It gets you by the heart and soul and refuses to let go, and that in my opinion is what music is and should be all about.
when you realize it's about Thom and co. shitting on The Daily Mail
For me, it stirs up a bit of motivation when it peaks
@@profanepropane which they deserve
I love how everyone at 2:00 looks at Jonny for his cue
once you notice everyone nodding and phil quietly tapping his sticks to time it right you realize how tense the anticipation for that fucking drop must have been in the room
You think you’ve heard the best Radiohead performance you could possibly hear, then you find another one...
every single song radiohead made is a real case of study for musicians..
my favourite band of all time with an incomparable style of music
I've lost count how many times i've heard this song/watched this particular video, but the piano chord changes at 2:09 just get me every single f****** time. I can't remember the last time my face made such a dramatic change of expression as it did when I heard this for the first time.
yep! was it that face a dog makes when something really unexpected / that it can't understand happens? :) like a sidewise head tilt type thing, eyes widening
This has to be top ten Radiohead songs...how was this not on an album? I can't believe they recorded this live with a complete horn section...an amazing recording engineering feat. WOW
Yes, this remembers me how the b sides in amnesiac are masterpieces and they just have haunting bears in the album, is like a joke
This was around TKOL era and it’s pretty easy to see/hear that it wouldn’t have fit into TKOL, I could see this being on HTTT though
@@Ali.F would have been the best song on the album...its a shame too because its their weakest album to date, imo
@@Ali.F Perfect song to play after 2+2=5
the brass section takes this to another universe
This song just keeps going up and up and up until it hits the ceiling and nosedives back down to Earth. A story in itself.
hi waved
Your neighbours might have something to say with the ceilings
Having this awesome brass section makes me wish we had A Moon Shaped Pool from the Basement with an orchestral accompaniment
_King Of Limbs_ is one of the great, most underrated albums ever. I'm glad some people are coming around who hated on it at first...
It didn't blow me away the first listen like the RH albums before, but man is it good. Same with AMSP. The maturity on that album is unmatched IMO.
Thank you to all the Radiohead members for accompanying me through this lowly times with your wonderful music.
Thom’s genius is showing… starts off in a key and modulates twice (C# and B#).
Ed really do be contemplating life in that first half
every song for him is an existential crisis of whether he actaully contributes anything of meaning to band or not.
@@robmausser This take is horrible, Radiohead isn't Radiohead without Ed.
This song is nothing short of a stroke of genius. I sincerely believe Thom has been possessed by some sort of musical God that's given him the power and curse of never being able to write a bad song. A mad scientist on his quest to greatness. Cant say enough about Thom, he's just bloody brilliant.
radiohead as a band, not just thom
Fucking unbelievable,just listened 5 times in a row.class
It is that lad .. proper music played by proper musicians .
The fact that they actually used this recording for the officially released song is so fucking awesome.
Why there's so many underrated radiohead songs like this? Geez, this is just my favorite song from the band, I wish they could make more songs like this

You think this song’s gonna be depressing, then 2:37 happens.
True and in my opinion it is a full point of Jazz influence
Haha that was so me 😂
This song proves that only the Beatles were on this level of compossition. Radiohead guys are music gods. This is unreachable, untochable, golden masterpiece.

Lyrics...
[Verse 1]
The Moonies are up on the mountain
The lunatics have taken over the asylum
Waiting on the rapture
Singing, "We're here
To keep your prices down
Feed you to the hounds
To the Daily Mail”
Together, together
[Verse 2]
You made a pig's ear
You made a rude mistake
Paid off security
And got through the gate
You got away with it
But we lie in wait
Hey hey, hey hey hey hey
Hey hey, hey hey hey hey hey
[Verse 3]
Where's the truth, what's the use
In hanging around, lost and found
With your head in the sand
Fat chance, no plan
No regard for human life
Keep trying, you’ve no right
Fast and loose, win or lose
Jumped the queue, go back again
President for life
Lord of all that flies in the sky
The beasts of the earth, the fish in the sea
You’ve lost command
Hey hey, hey hey hey
Uh uh, uh uh uh
Uh uh uh
There's no "rude" in verse 2, but 👍
@@MKronos Actually there is, he just barely says it. Look up the lyrics
all of radiohead are just straight up jamming to the second half, but the trumpet players are just absolute statues
They probably can’t believe their instruments were capable of such perfection..

I never tire of listening to this, watching and I luurve when the big horn , trombone (?) Guitars, drums kick in x add Thom's sublime tones to proceedings ,epic x beautiful x
This song and You and Whose Army builds up to a point i got tears in my eyes
The melancholy on this song makes me cry. Its how man is set to destruction on this earth selling everything! Nothing sacred. Except Radiohead of course
It always boggles me when I hear them live, like how are Thom’s vocals so perfect? They legit sound like the studio recording version! The instruments are impeccable! Such an amazing live band.

It's sounds like John Lennon's songs.
I still remember watching Live From the Basement on TV and being blown away from this whole album live, my first time listening, so much so that the actual album fell short of this stratospheric bar. Just incredible.
The beginning of this song might be the most beautiful piece of music ever written.
