Nice video, but I want to add that it is also told that trauco can transform males into having a body as desfigured as his own; that's thought to be an explanation for the incest related malformations in people as a product of the insolated population
That isn't Trauco. It is another demon named Imbunche/Invunche. If I had been more on top of things, I would have written the story to include that legend as well. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Imbunche
I actually like that idea. A *_Scooby Doo_* where they expose the supernatural phenomenon and then decide they should hide their discovery because it keeps some hiding innocent safe, or provides an impoverished town with a few tourist dollars, or some such.
There's a reason I said "truly learning" instead of just learning, (where the good falls under) that I will not elaborate on because it is distressing.
The fact that you haven´t been offered a deal to film documentary series for someone like BBC, NatGeo or even Netflix is beyond me. To me your channel is by far the best thing this site has to offer. Keep the great work and thanks for making my evening a bit more interesting!
Rare earth is better than to be sold and manipulated by a corporation i'd rather have them struggle with money and logistics and stay truthful to their work and keep making these gems than to be fake and following a script full of other scripts
Absolutely adore this channel and have been shamelessly binging since discovering it. As you're Canadian it would be amazing to see you cover the history (and present) of the First Nations someday.
Your approach to the topics you cover never fails to amaze me, its professional but shows your character ((which is a good thing)), your videos are both educational and entertaining, they never fail to make me more interested in whats out there. Props to you and your team!
"I've never once heard an axe hitting a tree and felt sexual arousal." Sounds like you're in denial about your lumberjack fetish. Just admit it, Evan. It's better to live in the truth.
it's really nice to hear this tales of my country from an outsiders perspective, specially when i'm far away from there. I hope you are having or had a really nice time along Chile.
I’ve really enjoyed your Chile videos, even more so that the Japanese ones, but definitely ready for Armenia! Love that you seem to be focusing on parts of the world where the history is less popularised. I know less about Armenia than I did Chile! Japan was great, but its history was more well known; at least for me.
this is the first time a rare earth has left me wishing you had talked more about stigma, generally they feel extremely complete! I'm curious about if children of trauco faced any unique issues...
He's absolutely right. The term "immaculate conception" refers to her, not him. And the worst part is that I knew that, 100%, and still mistook it in the script. I am going to be frustrated about this for a very long time.
Rare Earth hey, even if you got it correct in the video I probably wouldn't have noticed it but since it was a comment here I'll remember this so good job, both of you, I learned sumting.
Loving the series you are doing on Chile, especially how you've given deeper meaning to tales I was taught at school when I was little. I would really like if you could do a video about the student movement that has been present for the last 10 years or so in here.
Undoubtedly there's nothing more badass than the "caleuche" an submergible magic ship controlled by seahorse (literally) riding wizards with a crew of undead sailors
The conclusion of this episode reminds of an episode of Community where the study group decided to blame the constantly disappearing pens on a ghost rather than risk distrust amongst the group of friends.
It makes me happy that a top quality channel is telling many stories of my country in an awesome way and incredibly well explained!... Thank you for that Mr Hadfield!
I love how you just jumped right into this taboo subject and shared your rightful non biased strongly agreeable information. Incredible. Hope you received only support and no crit.
The instant he said the demon took the form of rich men and priests I already knew the horror the legend tries to hide. The cruel truth that it tries to bury and transform reality as a way to cope with its demons. The world is a cruel place and we are a cruel people made in its image.
Consistently enthralling and unmissable. Can't wait for your videos and so many from one country it makes me look forward to when you focus on the next country. I'm Irish, please do Ireland for a dozen episodes.
I just saw the Valpo-Viña video, the which one bring me here. I think your analysis is kind of poetic, but i'm ok with it, because is a personal vision with a little bit of magic involved... A big hug.
I recently came across this channel. I am now subscribed. If history texts were this interesting, I would be a PhD by now. Ironically this story could be considered a PSA if I am understanding the recent content of my news feed properly.
0:40 the Immaculate Conception always refers to the Conception of Mary since she was born without her own original sin, and it never refers to the conception of Christ
Using JP's interpretation of the myth, it does seem like a cautionary tale you can tell to anyone at any age. Traco lives in the heart of man, and he comes out in the powerful when he is above his peers without remorse or laws.
Es Gee Francesco's cinematography is the best. Watch "Canada's Last King" on UA-camr Tom Scott's channel. It's a rare earth video, but you can tell that Francesco did not film it
Your filming on this one was less than spectacular was Francesco hung over? The audio however is amazing as usual. Love your credits that always have a surprise/Easter egg.
It is rather telling that these kinds of beliefs are having their last gasps in conservative isolated communities and even then most of the locals of these areas don't really believe these myths and they are mostly played up for the benefit of tourists , and no doubt there is goblin themed teatowels , spoons and other tat for you to buy as well as several interesting goblin statues to pose beside and take a selfie while some local tells you this tale. These beliefs are fading into quaint folklore with a almost forgotten dark past (like most folkloric stories have if you scratch the surface).
I think your channel is amazing! Your storytelling skills are top notch! I did want to point out an error in this particular video. The immaculate conception was actually the catholic church's belief that Mary was born without the sin handed down to humanity from Adam and Eve. Recovering Catholic here and I was expected to know the doctrine. Lol. Nuns are awful! Most of them anyway. Safe travels
i hope that some day, worldwide, women everywhere will be able to say aloud that they are pregnant, and be able to make the choice as tp wether or not they wish to carry the baby or abort it, especially in the case of an attacker or abuser. That women everywhere can recieve accurate and comprehensive sex education and no shame access to any kind of birth control they desire, thus greatly reducing the need for abortions. That women everywhere can recieve all of the medical care that is necessary for themselves and their babies, without sky high rediculous charges and costs. That women everywhere can hold up their heads, report rapes and abuse and recieve justice without resorting to such demeaning and degrading excuses such as "A goblin did it." This is an important story that needs to be shared, to raise awareness that in many parts of the world in the 21st century, women are still sugfering, shamed and worse for the crime of being born girls. Only through awareness can we start taking the steps necessary to correct these gross injustices. Thank you for making this video, while it wasn't fun or enjoyable, it showed me a sude of Chile that I was completely unaware of, and it also made me feel so lucky to have been nirn in the US, while not perfect, I do know that if I became pregnant, I would not have to suffer this type of degradation.
Well, you shouldn't compare your present life in the US with present Chile, all the stories Rare Earth is talking about are part of folklore now. In Chile rape is rape and is condemned by society and punishes through the use of law. All these myths served a (shady) purpose centuries ago. So I would suggest, if you wanna compare, you should compare what it meant to be a raped woman in the US between the 1500s and 1700s to a woman in the island of Chiloe in the same period. My guess would be that it wasn't that much different, as both countries were colonies of greedy countries.
I believe that the Catholic Church teaches that by, "Immaculate Conception" they mean the IDEA, not the actual impregnating of the Virgin Mary by the Holy Ghost. This was once explained to me by my then Catholic girlfriend.
Mary's miraculous conception wasn't added to Christianity until a few hundred years later and was only a widespread belief after the Nicean meeting; so, she doesn't really work in the goblin context ;-)

I can't believe how many times I reviewed this episode without once catching that. Talk about wearing blinders.
