There really was NOTHING like it. The noise, the smell, the whistles off the Marshalls as you could hear the beast in the distance getting nearer, then that SOUND as they blasted by. Visceral, raw power. The greatest era of Motorsport ever. I get emotional looking at these videos and listening to that glorious S1. Takes me back 30 odd years with my dad. Just brilliant.
Group B was really something else. Modern rally may have really fast cars, but Group B cars in the 80s were MONSTER. Like, literally MONSTERS. With roaring and growling engines, and their unparalleled agility, they were something else entirely.
When i was i kid back in the 80s my dad always let me stay up late to watch the Rally specials on TV. I am totally convinced that Martin Schancke would rule if he ever tried gr B
As an American kid living in the Netherlands in the early '80s this became the norm getting obsessed with Savage rally footage dangerous situations, my Father was into F1 obviously but this was so much more attractive
Well collected and composed, amazing era, takes me right back to watching them in the Lombard RAC. Great to see all the stars, the Metro 6R4 has aged well and sounds amazing, the 205 T16 still looks dominant, all of them such great cars, the pinnacle of exciting rally hardware. What variety, from the Renault 5 Turbo to the Porsche 959. Great to see a few rare / less remembered ones, the BMW M1 and the Ferrari 288. A few Mantas etc. Would be good to sneak in the Stratos as well - was just at the end of its era but they were the most incredible cars and still some being run at that time. Anyway, well done. And Vale Henri - it was his death that pretty much brought it all to a close. Amazing they didn't take out more spectators too though, how crazy were they!
What a brilliant video😁 Notice how all the cars look so different and sound so different? Do current WRC cars all look and sound the same or is it just me?
@@QuinnBoone This is perfectly normal. If you want to make the most efficient car while meeting FIA standards, you'll end up with the same result as today's manufacturers: a car shaped like a shoebox with the wheels in the corners.
The only motorsports where there’s a wide diversity of cars is drifting now, you can watch i4 , i6, v6, v8, v10, v12 and even rotary engines going against each others in the same event and that’s without taking into account the variety of chassis and brands, mustangs, new Nissan Z, Gr Corolla, Ferrari, dodge vipers, older cars, corvettes and with hp ranging from 800 to 1200 hp all sideways and on the limit which can look something like this : ua-cam.com/video/4gqcnnDBXjQ/v-deo.html
I know the European cars are usually the fan favourites of Group B, but you can't deny that the Nissan Silvia 240RS, Toyota Celica GT-TS and the Mazda RX-7 FB are pretty damn cool. Maybe the Japanese triplets were unsuccessful because all of them had a RWD layout? I don't know. Either way, every car that competed in Group B was absolutely awesome.

The drivers have a great skill
Group B should take place now, not 35 years ago. The best rally era

Its just you lol. Seriously, your correct, no diversity in racing anymore.....

Group b had very few regulations compared to modern WRC
They look and sound the same, like all new cars it seems. They're turning into appliances
