    Also, in the living room where tiles gave been broken, it might look really cool to have some different tiles, maybe like handpainted ones, on the floor in a few spots instead of redoing the whole thing to look the same - plus less waste of materials

    Oh Saga! I'm in love! Your home is amazing and has loads of potential. The outdoor balcony areas are to die for! A thought about your fireplace: although you don't want to use it might I suggest you consider keeping it for it's charm and architectural interest? There are many ideas on the internet with ways you can use and decorate a nonworking fireplace. Maybe you will see something that you think is clever and beautiful. I'm so super excited to see more videos of your progress on the home. Plus your regular content as well. You are a delight. :) Hugs from the USA!

    I'm sure you will be able to get recycled floor tiles from any of the antique/restoration places that are all around Italy. Weirdly I rather like the bathroom tiles in the 1st bathroom, regrouted and with the walls painted they would be fine. Block off the chimneys if you don't want to use the fireplaces and use them as features for candles, books etc.

    I'm so happy for you guys. It looks like a lot of work, and take a lot of money to fix. But you are young enough to handle it and can do it over time to spread out the cost. I understand the fire place dilemma. Maybe you can add a small wood burning stove and burn remodel wood ends. The coldest winters I have ever spent were in Italy, and have lived in Wyoming, USA, which can have -40°F. Italy was older feeling because there isn't insulation and the heat isn't like great. Wood heat does polute, but it is radiant and warms you up.😊. Good luck and take the remodeling slow so as not to get burnt out. ❤🏳️‍🌈

      Hi Valorie! Yes, I hope so too! :) That is what I have thought too!

    Wow, the two houses together are huge and beautiful ❤ Nice that you shared already some of your ideas for the renovation! I have to smile a little bit because I found you through your minimalism videos 😅 But I understand why you fall in love with it, even if it's enormous
    Where/how did you find the property? We found our house in Spain via the real estate portal Idealista, which is also available for Portugal and other countries. But I've heard that there are also many municipalities in Italy that take part in the €1 houses campaign to breathe new life into abandoned places 😊
    For privacy reasons, you probably don't want to reveal where exactly you live in Italy. But it looks great there! A wonderful view and somehow it seems magically enchanted and quiet 🥰😍 Surrounded by stunning nature! Which region is it roughly and what is the climate like there? I see you don't have any heating except for the fireplace. So there's no snow in the mountains in winter? And how hot does it get right now in July?
    Many questions 😉 I'm very curious about your project

    • @SagaJohanna
      @SagaJohanna  Місяць тому +1

      Haha it's funny isn't it! I hope to make the house work without too much furniture, I think it all depends on the wall finish - I'm gonna try to do earthen walls!! 💖
      We were actually looking for smalelr properties but they were impossible to find! That's why this one is ideal, we could "choose" either side to live in.
      We did Idealista too, but didn't notice the house on there because of some things I didn't like, but then a local real estate agent convinced us to see it!
      I think the $1 houses in the North is not really happening anymore, where we are, but in the South for sure!
      Thank you :) 💖💖 Happy to share region, and thanks so much for your concerns, 💖 Liguria! So not too far away from Spain haha! They call this "hintherlands" which I don't really know what that is lol. Many microclimates, anything from humid and dark, to here, super sunny and dry. I'm not sure what winter will be like but I think it'll be pretty cold! Currently we're at 32 degrees all day! I'll talk more about it all in videos, so many good ideas yay!

    • @AliceMara
      @AliceMara Місяць тому

      @SagaJohanna I find renovating with natural materials like clay very exciting, I'd love to hear more about it! I didn't know the term earthen walls yet 😉 When I did Work&Travel in Portugal, for example, I learned how to mix lime powder into paint. A chemical reaction creates heat and you keep stirring until it bubbles. Painting with this aqueous lime paint is called white washing. Like clay, it is wonderful for rooms with high humidity and mold.
      I have just skimmed the Wikipedia article on Liguria 😊 The microclimate seems familiar to me from the Canary Islands, where we live - very diverse (but here it's definitely warmer in the winter months). It's amazing how high the proportion of wooded areas is in your area! I'm glad that you can realize your home in paradise 💚 Good luck & happy to get insights in your journey on UA-cam, because it's a great combination of information, inspiration and your calm vibes

    Love your house and gardens , but Just one word of caution.. be careful of snakes hidden in the dark.. I know what I'm talking about.. I would wear some boots down in the cellar.

      The snakes don’t like the damp of the cellar, they’re all in the garden 😅 jokes aside most are harmless!

    I love you but who on earth needs a house that big? just one endless nightmare to maintain. Bye Bye Minimalism....I imagine once you fix it up you could sell. Of course good luck to you!!!

    • @SagaJohanna
      @SagaJohanna  26 днів тому +2

      It’s very hard to find small houses here with gardens. We’re planning to restore it into 2 houses which makes it a lot smaller ☺️

      @@SagaJohanna - Good! Because the alternative just may end up being your biggest nightmare! 🤦‍♀️ the house will end up owning you, not the other way around. You could always consider using the second house as an Air B&B. Whatever you decide, good luck!

    Hope you have a million plus to spend and a crew of construction workers on retainer. Looks like you went American big rather than smart.

    • @SagaJohanna
      @SagaJohanna  Місяць тому +1

      What a strange comment. We looked for months to find something smaller but it wasn’t possible. They don’t built small houses with gardens in this region, plus the house isn’t “big” by American standards. European yes! Millions to renovate this house would be impossible to spend, and we’re planning on doing it ourselves. Why would we need construction workers on retainer?
