Looks very similar to what we call "puukko" in Finland. Short simple blade with no finget guard is typical. It's good for precise work like whittling, prepping fish and meet. The blade is thick and strong enough that it can take a beating. It is a general purpose tool that everyone, from young boys and girls to seniors would have worn every day. Saami people would often carry second, a much bigger knife called "leuku". It's heavier blade is suitable for wracking small branches of the short grown trees and brushes of the arctic, sort of like a mini machete. In Finland the daily carry of knives officially ended in -77 by law. However, if you go away from cities to rural areas, some still carry at least the short knife in the day-to-day life. Saami people are a population that live in the arctic regions of Norway Sweden, Finland and Russia. Their language is most closely related to Finnish.
That is very informative. Thank you for commenting. Interesting about the fact Saami carry (traditionally ) two knives. And thanks the relevant detail you provided. BTW there is a movie on Netflix called ‘Stolen’ which I understand is about Saami people. I hunt with several Finnish rifles - Finnish rifles have always been highly regarded in New Zealand. Sako’s and Tikkas. Thank you
Absolutely on the money, people who use their tools want something that works reliably not something that massages their fragile ego. What about a deer meets knife video?
Very cool piece my friend. Love this blade. Very cool
Thanks Donavan. Yes simple and effective!
