The Insane Me 262 variant

- The Me 262, one of the most famous fighter of World War II. Known to be the very first jet fighter in history, this plane marked the beginning of a new era in aeronautics. But this plane or should I say this plane family was much more than what we imagine. Indeed, several variants and developments were proposed passing by night fighters to even bombers. The number of its variants of this is simply crazy. But something is far more insane, one of Eugen Sänger proposal to add two of its ramjets on the wings to give even more thrust! This project was the Me 262 Lorin!

I'd never read about the Lorin ramjet. Thanks for not only the 262 based project but also for showing me some ramjet history.
Very glad you also enjoyed the history of the ramjet (an invention of my country !)
620 MPH at which time compressibility issues sprang up with the 262. In a steep dive, elevator function was compromised and a crash virtually unavoidable.
Thank you for another fascinating video on an interesting fighter. I actually scratch-built a model of this Lorin-augmented Me-202 using the old Revell 1/32 scale kit about 30 years ago. (I used plastic Easter Eggs for the round portion of the exhausts.) Though I haven't checked recently, I suspect there are conversion kits available in multiple scales, by now.
7th like.
Thanks to you! Indeed you are right, I found a lot of conversion kits on the web one being one of the websites I used to et informations about this aircraft.
The Me-262 blew up the sound barrier in 1943-44 and the atomic bomb with an explosive force of 10 kilos in Bavaria in 1941 and even less in 1939. If the Axis powers had won the war, it would have been in the history books instead. It's no wonder that test pilot Brown asked how the Second World War ended, when he asked Herman Göring, and Herman Göring said undecided.
You see what I see quality and discipline and extreme faith in the future.
Wow all of these are very interesting facts😮. I would be very interested if you could give me some documentation so I can learn more about it please.
Never would get off the ground in reality 😅
Yes right because and it did not happened because it was like most of the Wunderwaffen, detached from reality.
If it had been built and mass produced:
USAAF B 17 and B 24 gunners: Wait, how is that 262 going so fast?
After the surprise of discovering an aircraft of this type, encountering this variant would at this stage have added to the Me 262 a weapon of terror component xD
@@F-14DTomcatThere were many more different and sometimes, strange looking variants, as you mentioned. You can type in “Me 262 War Drawings” to see some really good drawings of many 262s drawn by a artist. I believe many of them were never built, but they do represent drawings of how it would look like
Wow thanks for the advice!
The 262 would have made a poor "fighter" (in the classic sense) but as a bomber interceptor it had the potential to be deadly...which was what they needed! Nearly all contemporary allied fighters had better maneuverability and could have run rings about it in a dogfight (which classically occur at lowering airspeeds...speed does NOT equal maneuverability) Typical dogfight maneuvers would have almost certainly caused flame-outs in those early engines. BUT it was not designed to dogfight. At best, it could use its superior speed to escape an allied fighter attack... but is that the purpose of a fighter? NO. The Me262 was an interceptor, not a fighter. I like the design as it showed a bit of German "elegance" in its lines rather than the usual brutally purposefully "make it fly and do what we want... looks be damned! approach. Damned thing is almost cute compared to some of its German contemporaries!
Indeed, the Me 262 was not very agile but proven to be an amazing interceptor against the B-17s.
Most of the late war German wonder weapons were either "too little, too late, or worse, ridiculously impractical and doomed due to lack of every resource imaginable. The Me 262 "could have been a contender" though (apologies to Marlon Brando) but at a time when Luftwaffe numbers were being whittled down in every way imagineable, Allied forces were steadily becoming stronger. It fought a losing battle from the start, German "officialdom" didn't help matter either! @@F-14DTomcat
What was the minimum operating speed of the ramjet?
I am sorry, I tried to find infos about this but there is nearly nothing about the performances of the ramjets.
The Lorin engine could be powered by lignite.
That was to be its main power source .
Maybe the original one, but on this plane, it could work with J2 fuel because it would imply to make a separate fuel tank.
@@F-14DTomcat lignite was really common in Germany and incredible source of cheap power..
The big problem of the Ramjet is you have to get to altitude and a required speed .
Bro it can go over Mach 3 or 4
Hmmm, I think it is a bit exagerated 😆
Was this spoken by ai?
Yes it was.
Just dont tell me you are on of those simpletons that thinks the tomcat should be brought back into service and that it was retired way too early...
No I am not xD. I chosen this name for my channel to make double reference, the first one for showing that this channel is about airplanes and the second is about my pet which is a cat named Tom (He looks just like my profil picture)
