Nice looking layout Tom! The GG-1 runs nice and smooth. My Irvington cars looked like your tail car does as well. I keep looking for another set but they are hard to come by in Arizona. Great video!
The 2332 was made between 1948 and 50. The peeling is normal for the Madison cars. Since they were made of Bakelite, the paint didn’t always get good adhesion.
Tom I love your layout! I bought these exact goes to go with my #726 & 2426W. I got lucky and I was able to find a few extra cars along with Sager Place #2626 making it a total of 8 cars. I will be posting a video of these running very soon. Someday I hope to find that GG1 in your condition, that thing runs so nice!
The hummm is the light tower vibrating , ido have two 394 spinning around ...Thanks for looking and glad you liked ....I never really looked at the video till just now..not really good camera man quality LOL LOL
Nice layout Tom! Alot of great accessories too. Believe it or not the only GG1 I could find in my price range was a Penn Central black unit! Planned to repaint it PRR red. But ran into a PC fan and he bought it for 350.00!
Hey thanks , This has been an on going thing...Now I an going to take it all off or maybe most of it and set a standard gauge loop on the outer rail run. I'll ekkp it posted . Thanks for looking
I did like that ....I was thinking about just what a great feeling it was to get something like this on christmas morning.... Then I did have to do some work on the motor and gears to free them up from the dry old grease... then to hear this power house start just so very smooth with so very little effortand just stroll around the layout like it owned the place LOL LOL So after the oil and fresh grease and a few runs around the town, They are sitting on the shelf looking down at all the others running
Una clásica e iconica locomotora eléctrica. Con un diseño soberbio e imponente. Tengo una locomotora GG1, que compre recientemente, de marca Mehano, made in Yugoslavia.
Hey thanks for looking, Yes they really do make anyone want to have a look at them. keep your eye looking for them never know where they could show up .. Hope you enjoyed the video
This set is very desirable,it was sold during they were sold in the late prewar period and late post war period. The Madison cars were not produced after 49.When the Korean War started, restrictions on many materials were put in place. At that time someone at Lionel sent the tooling for these cars of to war as scrap so they were not issued after that .I for one was more than disappointed at this turn of events. Now as a collector I nab these cars when I get a chance, even at that I've had a diificult time, since they are much sought after.
how the HECK did you manage to find these?? Mint, NEVER USED- just, WOW- what's the story? I have the '48 and '49 catalogues, I've admired this outfit, I'm just, deeply shocked they could have stayed hidden away for so long, and never be so much as pulled from the box. And for shame, to whoever stored them so poorly- trains and moisture are ALWAYS a big "no-no", I cringe every time I see a train that wasn't treated as best as it should have been. If only the people of yesteryear had packed up their trains a little nicer, just imagine how many trains needn't have been turned from everyone's favorite toy, to nothing more than a sorry looking shell with only a handful of good parts left.
Hi Yes they would have been great....I got a real sick feeling as I was looking at them before the purchase. They came from a lady that is cleaning out her very old aunts house. The lady insisted that the trains were not in a damp place...but when you feel the swollen and crispy cardboard you know whats up.One was in somewhat good shape the other was not so good. I ended up selling one to another train guy and do have the other in my collection. Both were the silver stripe GGs that made it even more interesting. I have been doing trains for a long time now and have gone thru very many duds this was a good find. thanks for looking Tom
A neighbor called me and said she was told I collected trains and asked if i had any interest in some old ttrains she had from her dad. I went over and looked .....The trains were still in the factory wraped boxes ...... The problem is they were stored under a sink in the basement ......So there was damp and more damp. I knew that this going to be something interesting because the boxes were dry at this time and hard as rocks. I did try to get them open there but gave up after some attemps. So we negotiated the price and then the real fun started
Just sold it to another TCA guy after some tuff negotiations( I really didn't want to let it go but that freed up some more train funds) ....not sure of his plans weather redo or keep as is , My thinking was to let as was and is. The unrun motor was good enough for me. I have the first one in my collection with just a few laps around the layout for now . The silver stripes and the dark unscratched paint with just a few marks are great to me. Thanks for looking
The box still had factory tape and the wheels did not have any sign of being on the rails. Both GG1s were in the same factory boxes and looked the same. the Madison cars were als never on the tracks. All the wheels spotless

Thank You, I did see a bunch of the Madison cars at Wyndham hotel and York

@@lionelmaxltd Sure! Subbed ya. I'll be interested to see how this turns out!
Isn't it a satisfying feeling when you take one of these 70 plus year old toys and watch them run like they're new ?

Sad about the last car.Bakelite plastic does not take well to holding paint over long periods.Just bought this same set. It's a hard one to find.
Yes that just shows that they are the real deal.... no reproduction here LOL
I don’t have any O scale trains but this post war trains are so cool even though they are old
Hey thanks for looking, Yes they really do make anyone want to have a look at them. keep your eye looking for them never know where they could show up .. Hope you enjoyed the video
I will
The last car looks like the typical cars on a penn central train.

I also like to just look at them sitting on display. I do like running the best
how the HECK did you manage to find these??

one sida was some what good but the other side had pock marks end to end..... there was some finish still there but mostly bumps
so restorable right?
