  • BYD, NIO, and XPeng get all the coverage, but did you know that the largest exporter of cars from China is Chery? Probably not. Yet they're present in over 80 countries around the world, and they're coming for more. The Tiggo 7 Plus is a Chery staple product, a good-sized family SUV with a plush interior and stacks of kit. In terms of value, it's a real hit, and in China costs less than a base-spec Dacia Sandero does in the UK.
So with Chery cars of various brands such as OMODA and Jaecoo entering the more established global auto markets in 2024, we took some time to check out the Tiggo 7 Plus and see what buyers can expect from the brand.

If any chinese Automaker can take a look at moderate family people carriers in Europe of past, which are also popular taxis and make them electric (and not ugly and wasteful as sin) they'd be on to a formidable formula.
7 seat Dacia Jumper, Citroën Berlingo, Dispatch, Renault Kangoo.
The focus of luxury/pretentiousness should stay for the airport shuttles.
More taste like the surprisingly still fresh CitroënC4 Picasso or spacetourer, or a Ford B and C-Max were sorely lacking an EV option

Mostly those areas, yes. Not a bad idea to build your competence in making cars before trying to succeed in a crowded and competitive European marketplace. I've seen their facilities and crash test centre and they're top notch, so it's not that they can't do it, but they would likely have been expensive flops had they gone for the big prize first.

Middle Eastern markets tend to have a shorter lifespan for a vehicle before selling them off (most tend to last 5 years here before replacement) so a lot of Gulf Arab buyers are willing to be a bit more experimental in their choices. It's helped Chinese cars leapfrog in the market rather quickly, especially when you consider the average Chinese car buyer is between 18 and 30.
