  • @SilverTheHedgehog090
    @SilverTheHedgehog090 7 років тому +835

    Okay, I normally love poker scenes, but this is way too unrealistic... first of all, 8-4 offsuit should've been mucked immediately. Especially considering the implied action before the turn. Second, only 50 years when the pot size is 600? That's a veeery small bet. I realize that they are literally gambling with their life, but considering how wealthy everyone attending is implied to be, it shouldn't be an issue. For that dude, especially. Third, you are not calling a bet like that when you're the short stack and when the only thing you have going for you is a straight draw when multiple other things beats you out. Fourth, fuck your 200 year "raise." That's a new card. So it's a bet.

    • @enzotansingco2199
      @enzotansingco2199 7 років тому +5

      SilverTheHedgehog090 600 years post-flop. If some of those years were from the other players, (who mucked their cards after either a raise/re-raise preflop or postflop bet)why the hell are you playing the hand with 8-4 off? If the other players mucked their cards and it was just heads up, you played into the flop with 8-4 off? I'm far from a poker pro, but the boldness/idiocy of that play...

Despite the fact that the sovereign issuing the currency can print it at will, no nation has ever been able to do so at massive scales without perverse side effects at the least and collapse in the confidence of money at the most.

    Let's just analyse this hand here,
    84os vs QQ (with a set on the flop)
    QQ guy put 50 into a 600 pot with a set (weak af bet)
    Timberlake calls 50 (20% of his total stack) against a guy with a huge stack (9000~), the bet is a pot ratio of 1:12 which is a good call, but at that point with only a gut shot straight draw and odds of hitting on the river were:
    6 cards known - 52 in a deck that's 46, 4 could help him beat the QQ so that's 46 / 4 = 11.5% chance of hitting a card. 11.5% equity value from a 20% stack bet with a 12 fold bet potential winnings.
    In terms of equity value, he has an 11.5% of winning a 650 pot with 50, meaning that he will lose 50, 88.5% of the time
    So:
    As for expected value (EV) = hit straight + miss straight
    = (650 x 0.115) + (-50 x 0.885)
    = (74.75) + (-44.25)
    = EV = 30.5
    So every time that he makes this bet with this pot size, he will win 30.5 . So actually, if he had an infinite stack, regardless of how unlucky he may be, over time he would win this hand and defeat the opponent entirely.
    In summary therefore, a good bet to make in theory according to EV, but a bad one to make given the stack size he has to play with against his opponent who has a bigger stack (Doesn't have enough cash for his expected values to pay off vs Mr. big stack.
    As for QQ guy, I could break down his EV but given Timberlake calling a big amount of his stack it was a good indicator that Timberlake had a good hand, or was at least chasing. Timberlake made the nuts, but QQ guy should have foreseen this, although he could have thought Timberlake had a 3 Jacks, but raising 200 into a 650 pot was a safe bet for him, even though he didn't need to feel threatened and pushed him into all-in anyway. I'd say good play on behalf of both players to be fair, although QQ guy wasn't really challenged here.

    A more realistic scenario (given the laws of this movie), I would have players buy-in with their Time Capsule devices (used throughout the movie to store time) instead of their actual wrist. That way, if a player goes all-in, he doesn't instantly die.
    Like in real-life cash games, we don't play with our entire wallet, just our chips on the table.

    Could have made it more realistic by giving Justin 8♣️4♣️
    Real poker players know you don’t call looking to bing a gut shot straight going into the river. Chances of you hitting are around 8%. But if he had 8♣️4♣️ he would have picked up way more equity to peel the river and hope for a flush to go along with his gut shot draw.
