The lyrics for this piece are mainly taken from bracteates: golden, circular coins or amulets found in Northern Europe that date from the 4th to 7th centuries CE. They are often fitted with a decorated rim and loop, which indicates that they were meant to be worn and perhaps provide protection, fulfil wishes or for divination.
The bracteates feature a very significant iconography influenced by Roman coinage. They were predominantly made from Roman gold, which was given to the North Germanic peoples as peace money.
In Anoana, the listener has the chance to delve into a collection of likely encoded spells from the Migration Period and get a touch of magic from the Dark Ages.
The intention of the piece is to playfully reconnect to an incantational language of a period where the North was richer in gold than any other region. Our forefathers presumably enjoyed a time of great prosperity and it may make us rethink how dark these ages really were.
Drif has been mastered significantly lower in volume than most modern releases to achieve a greater dynamic range, deeper lowend, transparent transients and a wider stereo image. If you want it louder, turn up the volume on a proper sound carrier.
Remember, that we all are brothers
All people, beasts, trees and stone and wind
We all descend from the one great being
That was always there
Before people lived and named it
Before the first seed sprouted

You can find their very first live performance in its entirety on UA-cam. Heilung Lifa. I recommend " In Maijan " as a starting point. Norupo is their other professional official video. But the live performance is where you want to be.
Good to know. I prefer live as it is so I am pretty excited to have discovered and go on this journey!
@@DaneBramageROCKSyou can't go wrong with their live shows, it's an experience
They are in Tour in the US now, I just saw them last week in KC, it was a special experience, they put on an amazing show that is unlike other concerts
@@DaneBramageROCKS And have a look at the live version of Anoana
I lucked out and went with a friend of mine to a live performance in AZ and I've never had a spiritual experience or religious experience, whatever u want to call it, but the closest I've felt to one is after walking out of the concert. Definitely will see them again live if they ever come through again.
This song is more metal than a lot of "metal" put out nowadays.
No argument here!
Agree! The metal record labels snatch up alot of tribal style bands and I'm here for it. ❤
You need to go deeper into this rabbit hole.. Heilung is amazing
So I have heard and am hearing! I totally will.
Did you notice that Anoana was born during an eclipse? I found this group a few years ago and immediately fell in love. Their music puts me in a different headspace than other music does, and I’ve seen people say it helps them with anxiety, PTSD, and other similar conditions. As someone who suffers from occasional anxiety, I can definitely understand this group having that effect. They don’t have fans, they have brothers and sisters, and they don’t put on concerts, they have rituals.
Another similar artist is Wardruna. I recommend “Lyfjaberg” to start with for Wardruna. It’s eight minutes long, but it’s hypnotic, beautiful, and worth it.
I can go on, and on about them. But what is unique, is that they call their concerts "rituals". They also have a MASSIVE stage setup, with a multitude of instrumentalists and vocalists. One noteworthy vocalist, is Annicke Shireen, who has her own band, aptly named "Shireen". BTW, there is a live version of this song that is spectacula! "Heilung - Anoana LIVE | LIFA Llyn Dain".
Yeah I always do a few MV's then go live, It is where bands shine! I am excited to see them as well. Thanks so much and more to come!
@@DaneBramageROCKS Their live performances are indescribably incredible. I saw them live a year ago and it was worth every effort and dollar spent to get there. Dig deep down the rabbit hole and you'll not be disappointed.
@@andrewlund6380 Excellent! Yeah I'll be checking those out for sure. Thank You
Literally, the Heilung logo is the wallpaper on this phone.
👍 U will enjoy the rabbit hole this opens up for u.
The Forest Queen returns, born at an eclipse, healer & protector of the land.
Rite of Passage... they merge.. Spirit Animal.
Enjoy ur Heilung journey.
(Maybe Krigsgaldr next? Mv is quite brutal, some get triggered, many watch the live from Castlefest 2017. )
Thank you so much. I appreciate the suggestion, possible Ill do both!
Krigsgaldr reminded me of the Scandinavian version of the Māori Haka
Hello from Germany! This isn't from the Viking era, it's much older. It's set in the Bronze Age! It's Norse, Celtic mythology. It is a prophecy. Anoana is the guardian of the Earth, and nature with everything that lives in it! Ana is the mother of all Celtic gods! Greetings Nephilim
Yeah, I have been a lot of good information about this group and I am glad to have discovered them. Thanks for the info! Cheers.
It is Norwegen, Danish, German so chill
Heilung is in fact a Metal band of Folk-Metal genre. Heilung is featured often at Metal band festivals in Europe. Heilung means "Healing" and the language sung is Proto-Norse.. which is Ancient Norse before Vikings..Anoana is the little girl/woman's name and what the song is about. The three lead musicians in Heilung are from Norway, Germany, and Denmark. The high pitched singing that Maria Franz the female singer sings is called Kulning which is ancient traditional herding calls from Nordic countries like Sweden where women would use these high pitched calls for calling in sheep herds from long distances.
Yeah I actually saw an article from Metal Injection about them so, good news is the genre fits In with the channel! Also explains why this group was recommended. I'm here for it.
@@DaneBramageROCKS When you see Heilung's live shows on UA-cam, you can SEE why Heilung is also a Metal band in its own right. I recommend Heilung Live video of Krigsgeldr on their LIFA tour! Watch that and you will see why. Heilung is Metal.
Band is Norwegian, Danish and German. Video (at least the mountains and beaches) are filmed in Norway
oh ok!! Thanks for sharing that!
Okay, there is a Reaction channel called The Charismatic Voice. Elizabeth, the reacter, actually has a 40-50 minute interview with Maria Franz.
I am very familiar with Elizabeth. I have been following her for years now! Thanks for the info though, I will look for that.
They are awesome... and also live.... simply breathtaking
Yeah I am excited to watch some live!
@@DaneBramageROCKS They have a live Anoana vid
most of their stuff is live
@@NexusofLight777 Got it saved!!
Great reaction bro. They just released a new video not long ago of a live performance of this song. You should check it out when you can. There live performances are out of this world, literally..
The landscape picts 5:15 are from Bleik on Andøya Island in Northern Norway, just north of the Lofoten archipelago and Vesterålen.
It's a nature wonderland.
absolutely beautiful
@@DaneBramageROCKS(the singer, Maria Franz, is Norwegian. The other two main members are (as you said) Danish and German.)
She's a special child because she was born during the eclipse. Such children were believed to be able to bring life back to dead things, like the bird. Her spirit animal is the buffalo, and at the end, she's charging towards one to merge with it. It's a metaphor. Heilung are true pagan animists.
That is awesome. Thanks for sharing that information.
Heilung is awesome! I've played the hell out of their Lifa show.
Love is where it's at! I have heard this group is phenomenal live, more to come
So much older than viking😊Heilung means healing and they are German,Norwegian and Dannish.
And you have to listen to Krigsgalder their first album like the 2 next is life altering.
Kai Uwe Faust is a Shaman and their music is rituals not only music.
They work closely with archaeologists to make everything so accurate as they can be from clothes, languages, and instruments.
And if you love Eivor you should listen to her with Wardruna singing Helvegen
Yeah I learned a ton from the fans and followers and I love it! Thanks for the recommendation. I'll check that out.
Their videos are great but having been to 2 live performances I can also vouch for them as a stage act: music performed as ritual. They are certainly the most interesting and original act I've seen in 40 years. Their concerts are fun so if they pop up in your area, by all means go see them live but be warned: their tickets sell out quick. They packed the two venues we went to, one of which was an open-air affair with no seating. Right now, they are the royalty of the pagan folk genre.
Yeah I can't stop hearing about their live shows and such so I do not think I will hesitate to check those out for sure! Cheers, more to come.,
Check out their live rituals or songs from shows Hamrer Hippyer or Fyligaja Ear Furlthor , hope I got spelling right . Amazed with every live show I've seen . Right now they are on tour in US Midwest . Their shows are increasingly popular I'm hearing .
I am also hearing that and I have only just discovered them. I have a quick catch up to do, but am gaining interest!
There is also a pretty recent Live performance of This song, Anoana, and it's interesting the little changes they make. This band does have more metal-esque songs amongst all their work, but they primarily focus on "amplified history" and Heilung itself is Healing in english so it's regenerative music. Interviews with the female vocal lead Maria Franz are also very entertaining and informative.
Yeah Ihave come to learn so much and am excited to dig more!! There will be more to come, I have a good list built now!
@@DaneBramageROCKS I forgot to mention it before, but maybe someone else has - they are currently working on the soundtrack to Hellblade 2 video game and there are several trailers out now for it you could check out to hear more of their stuff.
@@phoenixlich Really, I did not know that. I started playing the first one, might have to jump back into it if there is going to be another with Heilung!
they are a stunning live act
Yeah I have heard that, a ton now! I love this and will check out live next!
Thank you for reacting to this song/video! One of my favs. Hope you do more heilung!
Thank you as well. I totally will
Protector of the land
Hello from Germany! What I can also highly recommend is the German medieval band: Faun! A very good live band, and great videos! For example: Galdera, or Federkleid, Walburgisnacht, Tinta a Spanish song from the Middle Ages! Also very good: Wardruna, which is music from the Viking era, with the song: Helvegen, performed together with Aurora! Sung live! Greetings Nephilim
Got a good list going now! I appreciate the info. More to come.
Yes, Wardruna+Aurora, and then circle back and check out Wardruna+Eivor
Heilung is absolutely EPIC!
My all Time favorite Track is "Krigsgraldr" Live @Lifa Concert Version. Many greets from the Center of Germany
I have seen that pop up. I'll take a look
Keep digging into Heilung, I highly recommend it. Anoana was a great place to start... I recommend In Maidjan from the LIFA concert next, available on their yt channel. It is a Maria dominate song where she not only beautifully displays her range but does it in a way that will take you on a journey through nature and sound. Maria's vocals in this one are like manna from the gods! After, watch the full Lifa concert. It's available on their YT channel as well. Get that beautiful teaser with In Maidjan but do not skip that concert! Their live performances are like rituals, ones that even the audience is involved in. Even on a recording, it's a wonderful experience! Another mv to check out is Norupo.
Yeah the fans have come out in full support and great recommendations, so I got a good journey a head of me!! Thanks o much for checking this out!
There are so many great performances, not just studio cuts. Their first "album" was the performance at Castle Fest, it's called "Lifa". Great songs for you to look at would be "Alfadirhaiti", "Traust", "Svarand", "Tenet", and several others. You;ve opened a door, and if you're like anyone I have seen listen to Hailung, you won't be able to stop going back and opening that door again and again. Following for more of THIS kind of content.
Yeah I have a bit of a journey to take here and I am ready to roll! Just keep the door open for me!
Beautiful video and song
Agreed

So fyi the viking era only lasted a few hundred years. What this song is about is something that has existed for thousands of years. It's called animism and it's the worlds oldest and earliest spiritual belief and practices. This video is probably in Norway, the language is Old Norse.
AWESOME!! Thank you so much.
You are in for a treat with this band. Try the live sections from their Lifa performance (their first performance before audiences): "In Maidjan" and "Krigsgaldr". For another of their amazing production videos, try "Norupo"
I have been hearing a bit about their first live. I'm on it! More to come.
Funny view of Heilung. Like many other Americans also you've the opinion that Heilung has something to do with Vikings. No, this Band uses lyrics or fragments of lyrics that belong long before the Viking period. The Viking period lasted from the late 8th century till the early 10th century. The Viking period as we know it from many cinema films, had its end with christianization of Scandinavia, Frisia and other Germanic tribes. So, the lyrics of many Heilung songs originated in far away pre-christian time, mostly of bronze- or iron age. We're speaking about more than 1600 till 2000 years ago.
Not necessarily. I said viking-esk and during the wrap up I learned more about what the group was. I was only relating it to what I know and was familiar with, like most people in this world. Since this though, I have learned a ton and look forward to digging into more! Thanks so much for providing further information. Cheers!
Take a look at the newborn, she has antler nubs.
I saw that! Very cool
Hi thx for your great reaction. Yeah, they are some of a kind, go follow the rabbit whole, its worth your while. Just a few month ago they released a live version of "anoana", great experience. But you should definatly check out "in maidjan" live version, yes maria is a center piece but you gonna see much more of kai and christopher or "Alfadhirhaiti" of their LIFA show. A few weeks ago they performed at the game awards with a live piece called "seidh" its the trailer soundtrack of the upcoming game "hellblade 2"
Hi there. Yeah I am glad I discovered them and I have also saved the live performance they put on for the Hellblade 2 game. I plan on checking that one out! Thanks for the support, more to come.
Gotta watch krigsgaldr live it translates to War song
Lot of recommendations on that one! I'll check it out.
Hello, Before Heilung, they were named Euzen or Songleirk...
if you like viking vibes and particular vocals, may I suggest you to try : NYTT LAND and their songs - Fire of Ragnarok or U-Gra
greetings from Avignon
Oh nice!! Thanks for the info. I appreciate the suggestions as well. I'll check them out.
Those are different side projects that don’t include the whole troop.
New subscriber! Please listen to Wardruna featuring Aurora - Helvegen!
Sweet. Thank you so much and welcome to the channel. More to come.
It's not Viking-esque at all. It's pre Viking, proto- Norse.; before, during and after the great Migration.
I mean, ish......Norse still qualifies....well ok, pre-qualifies. But yes, it is more metal historical, so I have been hearing. Either way, more to come.
The Name Eivor is pronounced A-Vor. The A is a hard A like in Hate.
Ah, ok. Thank You.
GERMAN!
There's actually nothing viking about this
Look cllosely. The baby has antler nubs when it's born...dayem.
I noticed that. Pretty AWESOME.
