VetsOnCall - Food animals deserve respect: Dr. Locatelli

"Food animals need people to look out for them because they're animals, they deserve good care," says cattle veterinarian Dr. Lynn Locatelli, adding that with compassionate caretakers, beef cattle can be happy anywhere.
In this Vets On Call story, Dr. Lynn Locatelli helps re-design a ranch facility where calves are herded to be vaccinated and cows are checked for pregnancy and other health procedures. She works out on the ranch with Tom Williams, owner of a respected feedlot business for beef cattle in Nebraska, on a cold day in February.
They explain that if cattle are handled respectfully with low stress, they perform better, grow larger, and stay healthier.
"Food animals deserve respect," concludes Dr. Locatelli, "They provide nutrition to most people on this planet. We need to give them a good life."
