In the UK it has always been pronounced "Van den plaa" The company was founded in 1870 by Guillaume van den Plas, a Belgian blacksmith, and his three sons, Antoine, Henri and Willy.

yes the S is silent he should have known that but he was young i think...also the yanks have different sounding words for lots of things like Scotty Kilmer You tube Mechanic he calls his car a Toyota "sillarcah " but it's pronounced Celeeeka well here in Aus anyhow
Getting 'merkuns to pronounce it correctly is nearly impossible. I have the same trouble with Chaise Longue (correct) and chaise lounge (incorrect). People will read the words, mispronounce them, and then argue that they are correct. Show them a dictionary and they will scoff - "Oh, the Oxford English Dictionary...like that's any kind of authority. Show me in a proper 'merkun dictionary. I've been calling it chaise lounge for my whole life. If it was wrong, someone would OF told me."
@alanrtment porter I know. That was the point of my post. People make the same stupid mistakes and because nobody corrects them, they think it is correct. Ever try to argue with someone who is dead wrong, but they believe they are dead right and they refuse to look at your proof?

I've had Jags for about 30 years, and I love the old classic style, so much so, I have just sold my 2011 XF 3 litre V6 petrol, and bought a 2005 XJ series 3 V6 petrol, in mica BRG with ivory leather. It is gorgeous.

@@knightgary3139 Had an 2004 s type for 8 years, sold it last year and bought a x358 (like above) and it is a treat to drive, my 84 year old dad has a 2008 XF and it is nice but not the same drive as the XJ..

I have a black 2008 Vanden Plas and I plan on holding on to it for as long as it runs!
I had a 2006 Vanden Plas and I just sold it cash a year ago. I wouldn’t buy another later model again, but I will buy a 2009-2011 Vanden Plas

I'd say Jags have a certain elegance that a Benz or a BMW in the same class just don't have....there's something 'different' about a Jag, amazing how you can literally get them dirt-cheap now

I worked on Jags from 1963 until 2011 and this full spec xj350 is beautiful, when they first came out they had problems with the air suspension pump which is under the LHF wheel arch liner.

Very nice XJ, I still have one and I’m keeping it. I noticed a damaged leather pin hole in the driver door panel (4:55) but I guess we just ain’t gonna talk about that huh. And folks wondering, yes you can upgrade a 2004 to the 08-09 fenders and front bumper.

The X-Type are seriously underrated. I recently sold a 2008 model, in the most stunning lapis lazuli blue. Would have another in a heartbeat.....

I have the XJ6 (x350) Executive here in the UK. Values are dreadful however. If that VDP was here it would be worth about £4K. Retail might get £10K in that condition. I guess your example might demand a bit more?

The owner obviously didn't love the car too much or he wouldn't have sold it. Then you guys get and raise the price 2 to 3 times over what it's worth. I just sold my 2006 Jaguar Vanden Plas and I didn't cheat the buyer.

Truth be told, I'd still buy the car right now if I had the money because I love this car that much. I wouldn't buy it because of your asking price, but I'd only buy it because of whats been done to it for the upgrades. I'd buy it strictly for keeping it and not getting rid of it.

The previous owner loved the viecle so mush he did'nt want it anymore after a year. New cars this days are useless, are made for you to waste money over and over in repairs and never stops. Its better to buy used cars from other people than dealers that want to buy the owners of a good car worth 10k dealers offer 5 or 6 k and sell to you for 12 k. Better buy from an individual than wait for a dealer to buy it to sell it to you later for 6k more expensive.

Sorry but I can't take the Vanden Plas brand seriously, since its association with Austin Rover. The Austin Allegro Vanden Plas forever killed any prestige associated with the name, in my mind.
