It all comes down to who is promoted most. The more the industry pushes certain artists, the more they will be accepted. I'm convinced that people will like whatever is fed to them as long as the music is relatable, catchy, recorded/mixed well, and the singer has a decent voice. There are tons of great artists that fit this model and never get the same recognition as those that are chosen by the industry to advance.
Tinashe and FKA Twigs are examples of amazing artists who's record label chooses not to promote them as they deserve.

Tinashe could EASILY be one of the biggest stars on the planet with the right songs in her discography. In all honesty Tinashe just hasn't made a better or equivalent single to her debut "2 On". I'm worried about her. I hope she really understand her 'ceiling' and how talented she is cuz she could really become iconic in this era. Tinashe has everything needed to become that; the look, personality, voice charisma, likability, she's relatable and a great performer. Not to mention she is sooooo young. I believe in her tho

Tinashe sounds so awesome on this track. I love this kind of sound with her vocals, and the stuff she had in her mixtapes. Honestly not too fond of her new releases post-Aquarius. Hope she does more of these kinda songs :)

tbh her radio singles from Aquarius weren't that great so I'm holding out my reviews until Joyride as a whole comes out but I completely get where you're coming from
Not into the radio singles, my fave tracks were Aquarius, Bet and Cold Sweat. 2 On never caught on, catchy, yes I'll give it that.. But that's what it is, a radio hit, and very unlike the Tinashe I think she really is. Amethyst was good too.
