  • Morning, the day before yesterday, while walking along the beach and examining the tracks in the sand, I noticed two trails leading from a turtle nest toward the sea. Throughout the day, I checked the nest several times, but there were no changes. The last time, when seven baby turtles hatched from another nest, I thought that was the end of it and left the nest unattended. That was my mistake. During the night, jackals came, dug up the nest, and ate all the remaining baby turtles.
So, this time in the evening, I moved my mat, sleeping bag, light, and cameras closer to the nest. I hadn’t even set up the camera yet when I noticed the first baby turtle crawling toward the water. I filmed it, then went back and set up the camera, pointing it at the spot where the tracks began. This is what I captured-a video sped up by 15-20 times. In the lower-left corner, you can see the real-time clock.
