You can sorta do term insurance when they’re under 18 by doing an IUL where the underlying insurance is annual renewable term. I have 1 million dollar DB IUL’s on all my kids and the COI on the ART is literally just a few hundred dollars per year. That 1M DB allows me to fund them at around 30k per year.

How were y’all able to get a policy approved on a newborn in NICU?

That is a great question. I was thinking about that after the interview.

Probably a Children's term rider on their policy. If they added it when they had their first daughter, these riders typically cover ALL children born to them now and in the future. AND many have conversion options when the child is age 25, 28, 31, etc. The first company I was with (Woodmen Accident & Life, now Assurity) had this rider on their WL policies. The max conversation was $25k 6 times in the childs adult life, creating future insurability for a child! Loved those riders.

My guess is that whatever she had didn’t manifest or show itself until after she was 10 days old. They probably found out something was wrong after a few months where she failed to thrive.
