- Locusts part 1 - biological etymology
Locusts are fascinating and ecologically important animals. I talk about locust biology and the origin of words related to locusts.
Words:
Gregarious, gregis, aggregate, egregious, phase, phasis, bha, banner, photo, phantom, lobster, locust, locusta, plague, plaga, plak, complain, apoplexy

Love the video. Very quiet, though. Got blasted by the volume of the following ad lmao
This is so cool and unique content.
Thanks so much!
In Spanish, cigarra or chicharra means cicada, cigala means shrimp lobster, and langosta means actually both locust and spiny lobster also known as crayfish. Prawns and shrimp are gamba, but big shrimps are langostinos, gambón are argentine red king shrimp and bogavante is lobster, so there's quite the confusion.
Plus unrelated camarón means the miniscule shrimp you eat whole and also krill and galera means both galley (the boat) and mantis shrimp
This is really interesting, thank you! It would be pretty cool to trace out the origin of each of these different crustacean/insect words...
Plagues forced humanity to grow or falter almost like saplings gaining stress from wind preparing for strong storms ahead in life
