Do you really think there are five MEN who would pretend to be transgender just so they could beat a women's basketball team and win a championship? You sound like Mike Huckabee, who said he would have "identified as female" when he was in high school so he could go into the girls' locker room and look at all the girls showering.
That reporter should be dismissed. He intentionally tried setting her up.
How is that setting her up? You can't deny biology. If you are a biological male should you be allowed to play in biological female sports is what he asked. Why was it so hard for her to answer?

I can't agree that she shouldn't have done what she chose to do. There was no 'right' way to respond, but I do believe there is a 'right' answer.

This question was asked right after the NC State game. SC wins the ring if her answer would have been no SC would not have won. I played high-school basketball and was a pretty average player in a pretty average league. 13 PPG, 7RPG, 4 APG, about 40% 3pt shooting. At 6'4 205lbs I would absolutely physically dominate these ladies, and it would be disgraceful to watch. What this lady is talking about is beyond me.

@@maralenza4750 That's funny, because at 14 years old our coach made us play female pros in Europe and our team beat them almost every time. Those ladies were in mid 20s and 30s. At 16 we were dunking, running twice as fast as them and were on average 4-5 inches taller, so it didn’t make sense to have practice games against them. Men and women are not built the same and should not compete against each other in sports.

Good for you Dawn Staley! Whether I agree or not- I applaud her courage to say what she thinks when put on the spot and asked a very difficult and controversial question ... I applaud her speaking her truth as to her beliefs and just because someone has a different opinion doesn't make them right!
It would have been very easy for her to back out of answering that question by saying " No comment " or " I'm not going to discuss such a hot button topic at this time without having been given the grace to really take my time and compose an appropriate answer that is fair and respectful of everyone"..,. No - she didn't shy away from it and just because someone doesn't agree with her comment doesn't mean she's wrong.... and - if that one 45 second comment is all it takes for someone to no longer support her - then they didn't really support her to begin with.
Imagine Yourself being asked that question on the spot and knowing millions of people will see it? How would you answer it? And just because you answered a certain way means thousands of people will suddenly turn their backs on you.... that's the EPITOME of a strong courageous woman right there!
But - for the record - my answer to that question would be that I think there needs to be a third category for people who are transgender that it is a gender neutral category for anyone who feels inclined to compete and the best way to make that fair is to have them compete in their own category and anyone who wants to compete straight men, straight women, gay men, gay women, bisexual, asexual, cis, gender, trans, queer whatever... but if you are competing in a gender that you were not born with you should be in this third category.
