I had so much fun creating this girl name list - which was your favourite?
And what names would you add - I think I peaked in 2016 with Evelina Blossom - ha ha! Thanks as always for watching and subscribing :-)

My favourites are from the Book Ballet Shoes that I adored as a child, Pauline, Petrova and Posy! 💕
Posy was so very close on this list for me too! xx
Also love Posy from Ballet Shoes. My Blythe was almost a Posy
My favourite book as a child, love those names too
I was going to say the same !!!
Such pretty names. I love Odette from The Swan Princess
Alouette, gentille alouette! Alouette, je te plumerai! 😂 Great now i can’t get it out of my head!
Ahhh it’s true!! 😂❤❤❤
now look up the translation (:
I live in the UK and I was raised on this song 😂
I grew up with this song but I didn't know it was Canada specific!
Odette has been on my list for years, I love the nickname ‘Etty’ 💕
Aw I know a little Etty 😍 don’t think hers is short for anything. So cute!
Oh yes that nickname is so perfect x
My fav ballet name is Giselle, Gigi for short. Manon is second place.
I love Giselle! Such a gorgeous choice!
That is what I was going to suggest!
Margot feels like the poster name for this aesthetic - thanks to Margot Fonteyn! Although a little too popular to be considered for this unusual list.
Oh yes or maybe change it slightly to Marguerite which is gorgeous name also ❤
@@sandradolls5682it’s beautiful too, and french for Daisy
Margot is exactly what came to mind when I seen the title of this video. & is what we plan to name our third & final daughter! I have a Vivienne, Annelise, now Margot. 🥰🥰
@@MissKaylee195 beautiful names!
Just wanted to say you have been accompanying me through my GCSE revision, lockdown, college and now uni! Feeling crappy today and when this popped up i knew an SJ vid was what i needed, so thank you for always being there! Time to crack on with my sketching for uni, wish me luck 💛💛
Side note, I have synesthesia and Tula tastes like Percy pigs!
Ahhh Tula does taste like Percy pigs!!! How amazing / thank you so much!! I’d love to collab on a name tastes video when you have time 😊 so fascinating to me ❤❤❤ email me SJ.strum@yahoo.com if and when you’re interested and good luck with the exams xxxx
@@SJ_Strum ah honestly don't think I could help, the tastes only pop up sometimes it's really not that often! Xx
This is my favorite list you’ve done!! 😍 I got so excited when I saw the title. I named my little ballerina Astoria “Stori” 🩰🤍 but we had so many of these on our list for her!
I also love the name Felicie from the movie Ballerina.
Margarette and Odette and also in the movie
Love this theme SJ! Lots of names here that used to be on my list 🥰🩰💕
Yay! Thank you!
Love love love this list! So pretty ❤
SJ I named my daughter from one of your lists almost four years ago and I'm back for my second! Missed these so much
Ahhh that makes me so so happy thank you ❤❤
Oh my goodness I loved this list. My favorite was Tula and Odette. Gorgeous and so unique!
My little Melody just arrived at the end of last year. I feel like her name would fit in here too ❤
Ahh yes so so much ❤❤❤ huge congratulations on your daughter and also your gorgeous name x
She does rare names. Melody is extremely popular.
@Lilitu333 I never said it should have been on the list...... just thought it would fit in the category as i was listening. It's very uncommon where I am from, but I do know it's popular elsewhere. Just like caoimhe or aoife is very popular where I live and uncommon elsewhere.......
Congratulations:)
Some female main character names from famous classic 19th century ballets:
Odette, Odile (Swan Lake)

These are gorgeous- thanks so much for adding xxx
I love La Bayadère…I always thought Nikiya was such a pretty name. Also love Manon
Great list SJ! I really like Clara and Fei. I also think that these names are quite Ballet-Core; Leonie, Iris, Lucinda, Cora, Cordelia, Drucilla, Eugenie, Genevieve, Isabeau, Ondine and Rowena.
Isabeau is a great name for someone who’s both male and female or in-between!
In our local ballet company there was a ballerina named Halliet and I always thought that was a perfect name for a ballerina ❤
Wow that’s gorgeous and I’ve never heard it ❤
This is a beautiful list! I would also add the name Seraphina to this list 🥰 so whimsical and pretty and it either means burning soul or angel
Yes I love that name ❤ great choice!
Oh SJ this pink is sooo lovely on you ❤❤❤❤
I have an Olivianna, we love Olivia but wanted something a bit more unique! Love Oliviette 💕🌸 so pretty
Oh that’s stunning too!! Wow I love it ❤
aloette is such a pretty name, but unfortunately i will always associate it with children brutally plucking out the eyes of a little lark 😭
my favs from this: Tula, Bronte (which reminds me of the Brontë sisters & Bronte beach in Sydney, NSW, Aus 😋), Linnea, Rosetta, Valentina, Evolet (or Evolette), Oliviette
and Cheri & Isabeau are good names for people that are both m & f or in-between (chéri & beau are the male forms & chérie & belle are the female forms) (:
&
from the comments: olivianna, halliet
and my list is expanding yet again :p
have a great weekend lovely!
Similar to white Tutu and swan like .
Also some names maybe for dark Swan vibe hope that's ok ?
Esmeray - dark moon .
Brenna- Raven
Samara - talks at twilight
Tempest know that's Shakespeare but love the drama .
And for Pink Cerise , Tutu themed again Blanche , also Fennella.
Loved the name Audra and although I have a dear cousin who called Audrey wished I'd been called Audrey or Susanna 😂😂
Wow I love these! Esmeray is just perfection ❤
My daughter's name is Odette. ❤️ Giselle is a classic as well. I like the names Viviana, Valeria, and Sofia.
How about Menari? It’s the Malay word for “dancing” or “to dance”. I’ve never heard it used as a name but I think as a word it sounds so beautiful and soft and would work so well as a baby name
Lyric is beautiful!❤
I love names Ophelia (Fei for short) and Elfina ,think they are both very ballet aesthetic ❤
Ophelia is a great long name for fei!! Amazing xxxx
Thank you SJ
Enjoyed so much am in my 50s always loved names. Your channel cheers me up and I collect dolls helpful when naming them 😂.
Always loved the name
Susanna means gracefully lilly/ rose .
Thought Pearl
cute for this theme as
Ahh thank you Sandra!
that’s lovely and pearl is pretty until you realise what it means 😅
My ballet teacher was called Diana. Its always the first girls name that I associate with ballet 😅 and Diana is the goddess of hunting, so strong and beautiful ❤
Canadian Here! Can confirm Alloette is a popular song about a bird
Allegra Kent is a famous Balanchine dancer. Many New York City Ballerinas changed their names back in the day and I believe her birth name was Iris, also lovely. I think people should know that there is a more recent famous ballerina, Dusty Buttons who really ruined her reputation through illegal matters. Personally, I would not choose this name because of the nature of the crimes.
I do like the name Gelsey ( famous ballerina-Gelsey Kirkland)
I also like my name, Sylvia. I became a ballerina and am named after a famous ballet.
I recently taught a young girl named Elovie , which could have many cute shortenings, Elle, Lovie, Vie.
Azalea is my fave on this list:)
Too bad we can't change our names like outfits, as there are just so many fabulous ones!
Elohim is stunning ❤❤
I like Azalea. The nickname Lea is nice too if they want something more formal looking.
It works so well doesn't it xx
i love lea but azzy for a nickname is so cute too! knew a girl with this name and everyone called her azzy i just love the way it sounds
There is a childrens book called Miss Lina's ballerinas with 9 beautiful names all ending in "ina". Definitely the epitome of ballet core, just like your daughter's name! (Angelina, Nina, Lina, Regina, etc.)
My name is Suzelle which is a variation on Suzanne but came from a Vallerina that my parents knew. I’ve always thought of it as ballet inspired haha.
Wow that’s so pretty 🩷🩷
Posy has got to be added to this list!! ( Ballet Shoes)
YES! I had it on my long list too, I love the name Posy so much - thank you for adding it x
I'm due with a boy in a few weeks but I really love Baila from your list! I've never heard that and it's so soft and pretty
My favorites from this list are Clara, Linnea, Valentina, and Ianthe. Other names that might fit the aesthetic are Elowen, Seraphina, and Gabrielle.
I think of the medicine when I hear Allegra, but I do think it can be shortened to Ally. I also thought of Rosina for a Rose alternative.
My favourites from today's list are Allegra & Ianthe. I have a Giselle in my wider family, also a ballet core name I think.
Wow yes it's so perfect, and a great reason to choose it when it's in your family x
I’m naming my baby due in June Mira Grace and I feel like it’s ballet esque!
Definitely adding some to my list ❤ I just had a baby boy 6 weeks ago (6 weeks early!) and I’ve named hin Edward Malcolm Arthur which is waaay less out there than I thought I’d be haha. I call him Teddy 😊 hoping to have a girl next!
Wowwwww! What a stunning name ♥️♥️♥️ huge congratulations 🙌🏼 teddy is adorable too xx
Two of my colleagues had girls last year and named them Odette and Linneya
Wow!! How gorgeous - such lovely name choices and I love that spelling x
I love these names especially Valentina and Trinity!! But I would add Darcy and Pixie 😁 to this list too!
my sons middle name is valentín :)
Pixie is just the cutest name, I think it would have suited Evelina so well x
Valentina is my grandma name ❤ like it a lot!
Love it!
A few more ideas: Lacinda (lacy), Lilliana, Alina, Desiree, Pearl, Belle, Grace
Alouette gentille alouette! Yep it’s a song ! It’s also the mascot of the football team in Montreal, Montreal Alouettes
The name Tuala in Irish means "Princess of the People".
Names that remind me of ballet:
Paulina, Pippa, Posy, Delphi, Mariposa, Trixibelle, Marilyn, Hyacinth, Poppy, Lottie, Alouette, Sophia, Sigrid, Camille, Fauna, Norena, Millie, Katrina, Anastasia, Cecilia, Kirsten, Paulette, Donatella, Felicity, Piper, Bella, Isadora, Dorothea, Monet, Matilda, Chrysanthemum, Alexia, Audrina, Violet, Lavinia, Alice, Aliza, Angelina, Geniveve, Florence, Henrietta, Romilly, Francesca, Julietta, Primrose 🩰🩰🩰
Famous Dutch ballerina’s are Igone de Jongh (ee-go-nay) and Alexandra Radius. So for me ballet related names and beautiful!
Wow that’s such a gorgeous name!! Thank you for adding both xxx
Alouette ❤ my Canadian French aunt always sang me this song growing up
Amazing!! I’ve never heard it ❤❤
and then we grow up and realise how messed up it is 😅 beautiful bird though
I love Audra !
I have a Phoebe and Vincent and looking for unique boy or girl names to fit that vibe - if you could help that would be amazing!!! Completely stuck ! Xxx
I love Azalea!! I've never heard that one before, currently pregnant with my second baby we don't know if it's a boy or a girl yet but I'm definitely putting that name on my list🩷 also I want to know your thoughts on the name Vahla my husband brought it up and I think it's absolutely beautiful and I've never met anyone with that name before.
Wow that's lovely, it means prophetess which is a name meaning I love so much. I genuinely think it's so beautiful - xx
I was waiting for Angelina, like from the children's show Angelina Ballerina!
Oh yes! I used to love that!
The famous Alouette song is about plucking a lark's feathers
There are a few Audra in nyc. I also love ophelia. Fantastic list.
Yay - I kept thinking this aesthetic is so NYC! I hope to get back there one day! x
@@SJ_Strum we would love to have you !!
I adore this list! Which do you think would be Naomi’s favorite from this list?
I have a Giselle and I agree with others it’s balletcore. We call her Elsie as her nickname 🤩
Evelina ;-)). Elsie is a gorgeous nickname for Giselle x
A few suggestions to honor my favorite ballerinas/dancers:
Natalia (Osipova and Makarova)
Margot (Fonteyn)
Alessandra (Ferri)
Sylvie (Guillem)
Martha (Graham)
Isadora (Duncan)
Twyla (Tharp)
What about Maya Plisetskaya?
Wow!!! This is exactly why you have the best names 😊😊😊❤❤❤
I would add Marianela (Nunez)! Love her and the name
About Alouette: the song is called "Alouette, Gentille Alouette" and it's a French song about plucking a lark's feathers 😅 the original lyrics list different parts of the bird (that the feathers will be plucked from), but growing up, we would replace those with human body parts to learn French (i.e. "nez" for nose instead of "bec" for beak). I only learned the translation of the rest of the song in adulthood.
yah that song is horrible… but the human version is fine to learn body parts, since people don’t learn anything from the bird one…
I have an Elina Sofia 🎀 so this is definitely my style 💕
Wow so so pretty!
Loved this list 🎀 I always liked the name Scout after reading to kill a mockingbird in high school, I was convinced I was going to use it when I had a daughter (I didn't lol) but I also always loved the name Skipper! When I had my barbies I had a Skipper and Shelley and Skipper was always my favourite and I remember thinking her name was so cool. I hope someone uses it xx
Me too! ❤❤ it’s such a fun one x
would make cool nicknames!
I know an Odette too! I love Skipper and Audra, Audra McDonald is my fave singer 🥰
Ahhh I’ll listen to her tonight!
someone else mentioning her 🥰
I think it would be interesting to do a survey among your viewers to see what their name is and if they like it or not and any comments they want to share living or growing up with that name. It would be interesting to see what names were the most liked by the "owner" and which names were the least liked by their "owner." Then do a video on the results.
So interesting! Yes I’d love to do that thank you! X
Yes, please!
I knew a trinity. Lovely name. I also like charity
I love the name Charity too - so classic but rare x
I love Odette and Ottillie, husband is not on board with either one 🤦🏼♀️ but when I saw the title of this video Adeline was the first name that came to mind but it is very popular here in the states but it’s very pretty! Linnea has been on our list for a while as well, so pretty!
My daughter’s name, Adelaide, immediately came to mind! Same meaning as Adeline, just a little less popular.
Adeline is so perfect for this trend! Thank you for adding it - xxx
@@hannahkate0088if I didn’t live in Adelaide it would be one of my top names! I know an Adelaide and her nickname is Lady
Odette is beautiful! I thought Marie was the main character in The Nutcracker(I was watching a Disney+ series called On Pointe...I swear every little girl wanted to be Marie)!
I love Evelina. So pretty.
I have friends with daughters named Allegra and Audra.
No way!!! Ahhh show her this list / I wonder if they do ballet?! ❤😂
Evolet is so pretty it’s like a more rare Violet with a great nickname of Evie
Isn’t it lovely xx
I’ve suggested Azalea and Linnea Soleil several times.
Audra was a character on the western TV show The Big Valley which debuted in 1965.
Oh wow! I can add it to my western name list!
Oh yes! Audra Barkley played by the lovely Linda Evans.
and it fits a broadway names too, because Audra McDonald!
I can’t actually believe you mentioned my name with the spelling I use! This never happens! 💕
Cheri is pronounced just like ‘Sherry’ (and I don’t ever mind when people say Cherry).
Cherie with an E on the end is normally pronounced ‘sher-ee’. Also, since I am Canadian and speak French, I do have to just say my name the English way and not add any French accent or flair to it, because chérie in French means darling. 😋
Ahhhh amazing!! Thank you for adding such lush insight on pronunciation and the cherry 🍒 too! I love the name so much!
just to add, chéri(e) (without the e is masculine & with is feminine) is pronounced more like sheh-REE (emphasis on the second syllable and not a rolling r) and it also means dear 😊
Yes I agree 👍🏼 Sheh-rie, not sh-ERR. I was trying to spell phonetically but it’s tricky. I do get lots of jokes about my name especially when I was a flight attendant and French passengers would read my name tag 😅
Haha my name is Evelina Linnea, so I guess I fit great into the ballet core😅
I feel like my baby daughter's name Delphine could be on this list. I really love the name Dusty and have for years! I don't think I'd be brave enough to use it though. And Clara and Linnea. Beautiful names on this list.
Delphine is definitely this vibe!!! Such a gorgeous pick ❤❤❤❤
My grandmothers name is Delphia! I’ve never heard anyone else with the name, and Delphine is pretty close! 💕
Thank you! @@SJ_Strum 💕
My first choice was actually Delphi but my husband liked Delphine more. Delphia is beautiful! @@AbbyMcGuire23
I am not Canadian but in the Alouette song I think you are referring to the ending e is not silent. It sounds like Alouetta. It is still pretty though.
Ahhh I love that though as well! Thank you xx
Yes it does have an e on the end, which isn’t overly pronounced like the song. The song is just an exaggeration for the sake of singing 😋👍🏽
Can’t forget Giselle! Beautiful list, though 💕
SJ Can you do a middle name spot video for 2024?
Yes great idea!! ❤❤
Love this list!! I've been in love with the name Odette since I was a girl and watched the Swan Princess. 😅😍
I would add these names to the list:
Lisel
Bridget
Bernadette
Philomena
Faustina
Paula
Gracie
Henrietta
Lisel is one of my favorite things ❤❤❤
@@SJ_Strum I agree 💯 and I would watch the best musical/movie names video 😍
Liesel* but Liesl is nice too (:
I love Margot and Daphne
WOOHOO I MADE IT🎉 CLARA. Unfortunately, I cannot dance. When i was in choir in secondary school they had to change the whole "dance routine" for me because i was the only one who couldn't do it 😂
😂😂😂 but you don’t need to as you’re already a ballerina by birth!
i’m a ballerina. i adore this.
Ahhhh yay! Xxx
My ballet core names:
Annabelle
Colette
Odette
Clara
Sophia
Angelina ballerina 🩰 angel themed names make me think of ballet! Also this pink is GORGEOUS on you! Are you a spring?
Yes I forgot that!!! I loved it so much! Ahhhh thank you 🩷🩷 I can’t remember what I am - I have had my colours done so maybe I was x
@@SJ_Strum you look a lot like a spring and I see you shine in bright warm colours! I got my colours done and I’m a spring 🌈💕 I’d love to see you getting an analysis in a UA-cam video!
Hahaha as someone who works in a supermarket a Baler is the thing that crushes cardboard boxes- I could never 😂
Oh is it 😂😂😂
That’s exactly where my mind went too, anything that reminds me of my time working in supermarkets is a big no 😂
If you're talking about Baila, the correct pronunciation would be closer to "Bye 👋" and "la" put together. You're right about it sounding like baler.
why would you do that (if they didn’t contain fresh produce)? they could be reused and I always see people needing moving boxes but not knowing about this… and it reminds me of the farm machinery that makes hay bales 😂
and Baila means dance in spanish, so it sounds nice but in this diverse world…
When you mentioned Audra thought of beautiful Audrey Hepburn and her iconic black outfit them thought what about black swans and ballet.
Many thanks
Yes! So true xx
and the wonderful Audra McDonald
We have a precious Clara Ann ♥️
Beautiful combination! Xx
Someone i worked with had a girl named Ondine after a ballet
Wow that’s lovely x
My father wanted Odette for my older sister and my mother quickly vetoed it. Not sure if she didn’t like the sound but with Dettmer being the last name I think Odette Dettmer was just a little too much so she was named Leslie.
Ah yes the flow is so pretty with Leslie x
I could see Leona fitting this aesthetic. Reminds me of a leotard 😆
Also Demi, like a demi plié, or even Arabesque! She could go by Ara!
Arabesque is too much but nice word otherwise (:
Mmm I really like Rosetta for baby no.2 who’s due in summer 24
But my partner is stuck on Giavanna and Gigi for short .. which one do you prefer?! 😂😂
Rosetta if you’re not Italian(-American/whatever) or are, and Giovanna/Giavanna if are
My grandma is Clara😊
What about Poppy, Piper or Violet 🩰
Love those, Piper is such a crush name of mine too x
SJ is literally barbie in this video 💝💝hi, barbie
Speaking of barbie, you should make a video about barbie-themed baby names
ahhh thank you Linda x
I like: Bronte, Eula, Evelina, Clara, Azalea, Linnea, Rosetta, Cheri, Valentina, Fei, Oliviette, Winslet, Audra, & Ianthe. My suggestions: Leona or Leonie
Cheri and Isabeau are good ones for anyone who’s both male and female or in-between
I like Isabeau too@@Cassxowary
Angelina!
0:35 Did I hear this correctly?!
AFTER finding it really hard to pick my own baby’s name. That’s why she does lists. Cuz of her experience. Not current struggle
My niece's name is Azalea, we call her Zales!
So so cute x
I was a ballerina for 15 years! It messed my foot and my toes but it was worth it 😂 I am not trying to convince my husband to love the name Odette for a potential daughter. Not only for the ballet (but it's a big plus), but because our kids will have his last name not mine, and my last name is Audet (Odette prononced Odey), which is french (my first name too is french). I mean, I would check plenty of boxes hahaha.
Also, i like Alouette! It is cute. That being said, the song is really not cute, it's pretty gore if you listen to the lyrics😅
Wow that’s such a cool idea for a name / brings so much personality to it ❤❤
thank you, someone else that gets it 😅
and I’ve danced since I was little too and yes it’s worth it :p
Devastated whenever I see Odette on a baby name list 😂 we love our Odette but enjoyed the fact the name was not popular 😅😅
I’ll never mention it again 😂😊😊😊😊❤
I have a Valentina 😍😍😍
Eveluna Wren
"Allegra" is an allergy pill. It'd be like using the name "Aspirin" in the US.
Oh really!! They always pinch thr best names for brands!
My niece's name is Evalee. So I couldn't use Evelina if I wanted to! I'm almost 8 weeks with our second. My husband and I used the only name we both liked. I don't know how on earth i'm going to name this baby.
Ahhh I know that feeling!!! It gets harder with each baby ❤ I hope you find something here you love over the next few months xxx
I can help too if you can’t find anything!(: I have an extensive list heh
