Got this album as a present from my Aunt on Christmas Eve 1979, played it after midnight in dark alone in my basement while watching Carrie on TV; awesome album, awesome movie!!
The making of this video series is much appreciated by myself and many, many Led Zeppelin fans. Thank You for all the time, research, and hard work. Even though it was work from passion on your part which makes it a labor of love, it's still hard work in the end. You are much appreciated..

@@JCM-LedZeppelin-Stories ---- No need to thank me, my friend. Everything I said was true. I've been a fan since around 1972 or 73, I was about 7 or 8 years old. Not really knowing what I was listening to but liking it. I was also listening to all my older siblings records, Yes, Black Sabbath, Stones, Beatles, Pink Floyd and a lot of Bowie and everything else at that time. I even have an original pressing of the Blueberry Hill bootleg album. Some boy who liked my sister gave it to her, how or where he got it is a mystery but I have it still all these years later. I learned a lot of cool things from your videos, so far the thing that got me was when in part two you mentioned that the band did some practicing a the rehearsal studios in L.A. called S.I.R., AStudio Instrument Rentals, I worked for S.I.R. in L.A. in the early '90s as a stage manager for their film stages and did concert lighting for their lighting division at night. I didn't know Zeppelin used their Hollywood studios back in the day. And I learned Tommy Bolin was hanging out with Percy in Malibu. Tommy was incredible. Such a tragic loss at too early in his career. I'm friends with a lot of famous musicians, dated daughters of a couple ex wife of another very famous artists. One of my lifelong friends is good friends with Jason Bonham and she was Slash's personal assistant for 13 years. I have lived a very fortunate life. People say I should write a book about my life. I remember a fiend getting a really high end stereo when ITTOD came out. The opening of carouselambra seemed really quiet, so we cranked the volume. When then band jumped in, it nearly blew the roof off. Memory burn.
I first heard this on the radio just before release. We were teens, die hard fans. They played a song here and there, teaser like. It was Seattle, huge huge zep fan base. Some of us had seen the kingdome show in 77. All of us were dying for the next tour. My first impression was that the production was slick. Some songs were instantly accessible, some not. Which was par for the course. The prominent keys were a bit surprising but it was zeppelin and we devoured EVERYTHING. This is so cool. Part one was superb. Thank you
I consider myself to be a big Led Zeppelin fan and have read and watched a lot of things about the band over the decades. This is an outstanding research and production and i am gaining new knowledge from this, Thanks for your hard work.
THIS IS ONE OF THE GREATEST DOCUMENTARIES ABOUT A BAND I'VE EVER SEEN!! I am transfixed. Just for my own personal copy (not to distribute or anything), I've burned a Blu-ray with the 7 episodes and am watching it now in my home theater. It is stunning. Amazing work, my friend. IN THROUGH THE OUT DOOR is my first Zeppelin album. Just an accident. I was blown away instantly by IN THE EVENING. PRESENCE is still my favorite Zep album...but IN THROUGH THE OUT DOOR is up there. And frankly, I listen to the three left-over songs (from CODA) as if they're part of IN THROUGH THE OUT DOOR. These ten songs show so many shades of the band...as PHYSICAL GRAFFITI did. And when people try and claim the band "softened" at the end, just take one listen to WEARING AND TEARING. I've read 20 books on Led Zeppelin. I have all the pro-shot shows that have surfaced on Blu-ray or DVD. I have a great HD collection of their 8mm concert clips. And yet, I'm learning so much about this band just from this documentary. It is BEAUTIFULLY done. I applaud you, JCM. I cannot wait to see more. I will soon give a donation as well.
Wow i am grateful to read your comment. So you have the first Blu-Ray copy of this show haha! Hope you spread the word and tell your friends! @@JCM-LedZeppelin-Stories You are most welcome, sir. And yes, I subscribed the minute I saw the trailer. I just finished the Blu-ray this morning. It is amazing. I just added it to my Zeppelin DVD/Blu-ray collection and it will be something I regularly view. Nice touch, ending with the Lennon clip. Not a lot of people realize that, technically, the two biggest bands in history ended within days of each other. Led Zeppelin announced their break-up on December 4, 1980. Four days later, John Lennon was murdered. Now, yes, Zeppelin was dead in September 1980...but still, early December 1980 was, perhaps, the worst time ever to be a rock fan. I have a framed ticket from Zeppelin's never-played Chicago 1980 show in my home recording studio in my basement. I treasure it. (I bought it recently...I was only 5 when John Bonham died and I did not know who Led Zeppelin was, though I do remember Lennon's murder...My Xmas 1979 present from my parents was The Beatles' REVOLVER LP.) If it's ok, I'll find you on Facebook and try and add you as a Facebook friend. (Don't worry...I'm not any sort of nut...just a Special Education schoolteacher who also plays music, has a nice big house with a recording studio...and I absolutely LOVE Led Zeppelin.) I cannot believe you found that quote of Plant saying "Knebworth was USELESS." Fascinating. I have a 2-Blu-ray set of the two Knebworth gigs and have watched them in my home theater many a time. (If you lived close to Chicago, I would happily invite you over to watch them with VERY loud volume someday.) I do feel that the August 4 gig is definitely superior to the August 11 gig...but they both have their high points. I hear fans complain about Knebworth ALL THE TIME. But it's funny: for some reason, even though I have the two pro-shot Earls Court gigs that have surfaced in great quality, as well as the Seattle '77 show, I watch Knebworth FAR MORE. The opening performance on August 4 is actually my favorite SONG REMAINS THE SAME ever...it's just so...funky. So energetic. Great BLACK DOG. TEN YEARS GONE (which they didn't do August 11). NOBODY'S FAULT. IN THE EVENING. Great NO QUARTER (admittedly superior at Earls Court). And the August 4 WHOLE LOTTA LOVE, with the amazing riffs and new arrangement is my favorite version of WHOLE LOTTA LOVE (I also love the version of that in the SONG REMAINS THE SAME film). I've been waiting for years for Page to released a surround sound/restored disc of the whole Knebworth experience...but I imagine that's unlikely. The 2003 DVD version is great...but I watch the unofficial Blu-ray more because it is COMPLETE. Anyway, I'd love it if you could reveal what your next Zep series will be. I will definitely donate, tell my friends about this amazing series...and wait with baited breath about what you do next. Thank you, Erik P.S. You're a helluva guitar-player, by the way. Seen a lot of documentaries my whole musical life, by far this is one of my favorites, this was my most favorite Zep album despite the ridicule from the so called purists, you have so far not only touched on every point in my defense of the album but graced me with more knowledge as ammunition, looking forward to seeing more of your work

Amazing documentary, far different from the others - puts Zeppelin in the context of their contemporaries, gets into key musical tidbits, goes years back to show the inspiration & sources for some of In Through the Out Door's songs. Can't wait for Part 3!
This is so far a fantastic series! I too was ready to binge watch. So much has been presented about I-IV, that its welcome to to hear a deep dive into this album. The attention to detail and insight is stunning! Perhaps Presence next?
I really appreciate the research and time you spent putting these documentaries together. Your guitar work is quite impressive. Thank you for your hard work and putting these together for all to enjoy. Rock On!
11:39 this solo sounds amazing, so close to the album version… really fantastic. This entire production is really impressive. Thank you for the hard work of making them, I can only imagine the hours required… 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Well thank you VERY MUCH hehe, i appreciate it. I love the band and just wanted to share this with us, the community that keep the Zepp flame alive. Stay tuned for Episode 4, premieres Saturday.
Wow just blown away with the amount of information put together in this documentary spot on and factual the way it should be superb work my friend looking forward to more
This is still one of my go-to Zep albums after all these years. Even though it gets maligned sometimes, it brings back fond memories for me at the time I bought the album in 1979.
I watched a video with John Paul Jones in it he said that he wrote this album because Robert was grieving over the death of his son and he said Jimmy was having substance abuse problems. I wish I could link this to that interview but I certainly do not know what he means by saying he "wrote" the album. Only they really know.
great info so far. i did laugh at all the different album covers they had for this cause, me and a buddy both had it but had different covers. and you start to think… do i have fake or bootleg? but no…. they did that shit on purpose. genius
@@JCM-LedZeppelin-Stories Well...I'm still looking for that confounded bridge....but I"ll definitely make time for the Episode 4! Looking forward to it.
Thank you so much Rascal, i appreciate it. The reason i am offering Patreon is to have a support to keep working these. Sharing with your friends helps me a lot and my goal is to have 100 videos :) keep the good vibes coming and i know this project will grow !
@@JCM-LedZeppelin-Stories Brother, I'm currently on disability, so I'm a broke dick-dog for now, but have had some operations and am trying to get back out touring with bands. (I'm a lighting designer/director). As soon as I do, I will hit up your Patreon. And I swore I had subscribed. I'll go check that now!
You just can't get enough of this illustrious and magical foray into music history that merely boggles the mind when you think about how many different directions these four souls went during the course of their stellar existence, trying just about everything, and STILL maintaining the foundations of Led Zeppelin. It just hasn't taken place with any other artists. So, I find it shameful when I hear the biased and unfounded claims of musical thievery offered as open slander against this mighty example of pure creativity within the hard rock/blues genre!
Thank You Jason! I agree with you the accusations against Zepp try to downplay their Legacy. Glad you enjoyed episode 2 of 7. I just started a new series called Post Zeppelin 1981-1989 :)
The level of detail is impressive and keeps this interesting and fresh. I hope the follow-ups are at this same level. All the other documentaries are superficial rehashes of the same old same old - this was different.
Thank you Chris i appreciate it! I promise you the level of work was the same for all episodes. I tried to use my OCD for good hehehe. From a Zepp Fan to Fans. Episode 1 was quite tricky how to begin the story. Hope you like the rest of the series and please subscribe :)
John Paul Jones really hit a home run with this passage. Absolutely. It gives hope into the 80s that never came to be! Thank you for tuning in! Please subscribe :) i wanna do Zepp's full history in the future!

I was 11 when ITTOD came out...I remember my older brother and his friends excitement and anticipation of it coming out. I wasn't exactly sure why lol! It was like a religious experience for them almost!! When I heard the intro to In The Evening I was hooked. I actually worked backwards from there diving in deep on my Zepp discovery...and had my mind blown time after time off course. ✌️
Absolutely i feel you on the Intro for ITE. It encapsules many things within their universe. Thank you for sharing your experience. I can relate, the feeling of the new zeppelin sound! Please subscribe and stay tuned for Episode 3.
I had a debate with someone once about Bonham playing either North or Stacatto Drums, in the studio, I saw the video but couldn't find it, he said I was nuts, but here it is, looks like Stacatto Drums
The documentary is better than the album itself 🤣🤣 Playing the alternative version as we are speaking . I have given it so many chances. It just sounds like Foreinger or Europe some 80s dirge , not the Zeppelin I love .
Good documentary series. Certainly not the band's best still but very solid after the 2+ year band hiatus. Seeing the brown paper bag cover 45 years ago I can recall thinking "WTF is this???" and then hearing the intro to In the Evening put an end to any doubt..
OMG Thanks Zeppearl, i just saw your channel, you are quite the expert on the matter! Honored by your words, Episode 3 premieres Saturday. Please subscribe and maybe we can work together in the future!
@@JCM-LedZeppelin-Stories Already subbed thank you for checking out my channel, IDK about a expert as I am always learning if there is anything I can help with I would be happy too. Your ITTOD album collection is insanely awesome !!
I too am blown away by the effort and level of detail you put into these videos. They are great! I really wish you could have a human do the narration though. It’s almost too distracting to listen to at times. But thank you for making the videos nonetheless!
I love this album. Since you played in LZ cover bands, What do you think of Dread Zeppelin? I saw them in 1986 at SunSplash in Montego Bay on the beach. Only reggae bands are invited to SunSplash and all the best reggae bands in the world played ( except UB40?).
“Suarez (Suárez)” is a common surname in South America, so I think that isn’t a typographical error, although the theory really makes sense! Great series btw, I found randomly ep. 1 so I couldn’t miss the second one! Love how well it is made, giving all the insights!
Thank you so much! at first i looked into the World Cup 1978 data for any Suarez last name but didn't find any. I hope you've find these videos engaging and dynamic, Episode 3 premieres this Saturday. Let's keep the Zepp flame alive and if possible, please subscribe!
@@JCM-LedZeppelin-Stories Thank you. Even the song that plays throughout the beginning is great. It's the song where High Fidelity plays in the middle of.
“Autumn Lake” was only the hurdy-gurdy…it did not have any other instrument on it. To the best of my knowledge, there is no bowed guitar on the album version of the intro of “In the Evening”, only the Gizmotron effected guitar.
Technically there is a version of the Bow effect thru the Gizmotron thus why i considered important to reference Page's sonic work as inspiration. Hope you enjoyed it :) Stay tuned for Ep 3.
@@JCM-LedZeppelin-Stories I think you are referring to the drones? They are played by keyboards in the intro of “In the Evening”, but yes, I reckon that is related to Jimmy’s interest in bowing drones.
Now ...a making of Presence would be a stellar "next project".
Charles!!!?????
Achilles and Tea for one! I'd read and heard tidbits about its production
Would love this as well
Absolutely
Please continue with Presence. Love to see some background on For Your Life!

Thanks Mike! I worked on this track back in 2015, little did i knew i had the theme song all along!
Good stuff. I have been reading everything I could find about Led Zeppelin and JP for years and there is stuff in here I haven’t seen before. Plus a couple rare audio pieces. Nice work!
Thank you so much! i appreciate your comment! Stay tuned for Episode 4, premieres Saturday. Finding the radio pieces was a bit of a nightmare hehe, glad you liked them!
The 10CC detail. Thank you! Excellent part 2, my dear brother.
If there ever was a definitive documented history of Zeppelin, this would be it. Appreciate the hard work and long hours on this one.
Seen a lot of documentaries my whole musical life, by far this is one of my favorites, this was my most favorite Zep album despite the ridicule from the so called purists, you have so far not only touched on every point in my defense of the album but graced me with more knowledge as ammunition, looking forward to seeing more of your work
Thank you very much ! Hope you like the next episodes. Its exciting to see how much love this album has among us fans The response has been great. I would like to ask you if you can please subscribe so my family doesn't get worried i invest so much time making these hehe. I really appreciate your support! Stay tuned for Episode 3!
@@JCM-LedZeppelin-Stories I subscribed during part one already!
Amazing documentary, far different from the others - puts Zeppelin in the context of their contemporaries, gets into key musical tidbits, goes years back to show the inspiration & sources for some of In Through the Out Door's songs. Can't wait for Part 3!
Thanks so much man! I appreciate your words! Hope you enjoy part 3 coming up Saturday :)
Rock On!
Rock and roll salute back to you Dave!
@@JCM-LedZeppelin-Stories ✌🏻
I agree just so professional
11:39 this solo sounds amazing, so close to the album version… really fantastic. This entire production is really impressive. Thank you for the hard work of making them, I can only imagine the hours required… 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Well thank you VERY MUCH hehe, i appreciate it. I love the band and just wanted to share this with us, the community that keep the Zepp flame alive. Stay tuned for Episode 4, premieres Saturday.
Epic documentary. Awesome piece of work!
Thank you RockitMen! Hope you enjoy all 7 videos from the series.
Wow just blown away with the amount of information put together in this documentary spot on and factual the way it should be superb work my friend looking forward to more
The best part about In the Evening ...is the mid section breakdown...which was later copied by Van Halen with thier classic Panama
Always reminded me of that mid and a tad of Def Leppard
It wasn't until 87
Right before high school is when I just started really absorbing Zeppelin
Love the soulful guitar on that song, and on Panama. Wish they both did more solos like that!
Absolutely PANAMA HAS this influence! GREAT finding!!!!
Van Halen's Drop Dead Legs, was inspired by Led Zeppelin's Ten Years Gone.
@@adampoe2797 I bought the Whole Lotta Love 45 in 1969 when it first came out, what a fabulous time to be a young teenager. 👍
Awesome episode. Thanks for including the info on Presence. I look forward to the upcoming episodes.
Very well made. A real pleasure to watch. Especially good as this period doesn't get much covered. Thank you.
Glad you enjoyed it!, Stay tuned for Episode 4, premieres Saturday :)
Eccelent work with this documentarie - so much reserch and so welldone! I can't wait for the next one. Thank you so much.
Thank you for the good vibes! Episode 3 premieres Saturday! Please subscribe :)
Many Thanx,JCM.for making this,as well as #1- just fantastic!! And educational,as well. Take care,. M
Thank you Hayward i appreciate it! Stay tuned.
Wow... stellar guitar playing, José!
My pleasure sir! Thanks for watching this one. It's the series that started it all!
This is still one of my go-to Zep albums after all these years. Even though it gets maligned sometimes, it brings back fond memories for me at the time I bought the album in 1979.
I come back again just to listen to the intro music. I love it!!
Thanks AstroMan! I added some funk guitars in there!
so comprehensive...ive been a zep fan for 3 decades plus..so great to get into the deep stuff . great job...stellar
Thank you so much! i appreciate your comment! Stay tuned for Episode 4, premieres Saturday.
This series is great so far can’t wait to see more maybe in the future you could more on other zeppelin albums
Thank you so much Blue i appreciate it! Which album would you like to see the most?
Probably physical graffiti thanks for asking!
Great sounds and visuals. Great job ✌🏼✌🏼
I watched a video with John Paul Jones in it he said that he wrote this album because Robert was grieving over the death of his son and he said Jimmy was having substance abuse problems. I wish I could link this to that interview but I certainly do not know what he means by saying he "wrote" the album. Only they really know.
great info so far. i did laugh at all the different album covers they had for this cause, me and a buddy both had it but had different covers. and you start to think… do i have fake or bootleg? but no…. they did that shit on purpose. genius
Yes And if you wiped the cover with a damp cloth different colours appeared
@@alanburton3578 That'd be the insert sleeve.
The different covers were from the different vantage points of the persons in the barroom.
Totally excellent!! 5 stars. Superb. Congratulations jcm!
Thank you so much Celeste i appreciate it! Hope you like Episodes 3 to 5. Number 6 premieres this Saturday! Long Live the Zepps!!!
Great job Jose!
Thank you very much Martin. Hope you enjoy the rest of the series!
This is truly sensational material; thanks so much for all your hard work, dedication, time and effort put into this project 😊
Thank you so much Martin. I very much appreciate reading this :) hope you like the rest of the series!
This is Fantastic! As a big Zeppelin fan Thank You!🌹
Once again great job on this project. I'll watch the next chapter or the next series. Again, really nice work.
Thanks you Sir! Hope you dig Episode 3, we get closer to 1979 :)
Love hearing all the outtakes and early progressions......You've done two already and now you're steady and then they went.....
ONE TWO THREE FOURRRR Thank you so much! i appreciate your comment! Stay tuned for Episode 4, premieres Saturday.

It would be interesting to hear more about their excursion down in Argentina for the 1978 WC.
Great work! Looking forward to ITTOD Episode 3!
I think I’m just gonna binge watch your videos today JCM.
Hehe that sounds great Kellie, hope you are doing well! I am looking for more copies of ITTOD here in my country, seems i've bought them all!
Amazing documentary
Thank you very much for watching this one. It's the series that got this channel started!
Absolutely fantastic
Great video!
What is the song at 14:00? Is that a demo version of Royal Orleans?
These videos are absolutely great, keep it up! Thanks!
Thank you so much! I really appreciate it! Hope it has made you play Carouselambra at max Volume hehe. Episode 3 premieres Tomorrow Aug.27 at noon.
Super good insight to a few things I have never heard before?..
Your content is amazing! Thank you 🙏
Thank you so much Desert Rain! Long live the Zepps!
What a way to start a Monday!
"Sweet sweet Connie" was also a famous groupie from Kansas City, or somewhere in the midwest, apparently Grand Funk Railroad knew her well.
The In The Evening middle passage...may be the most beautiful piece of music ever recorded. Ever.
John Paul Jones really hit a home run with this passage. Absolutely. It gives hope into the 80s that never came to be! Thank you for tuning in! Please subscribe :) i wanna do Zepp's full history in the future!
What is the version of All Of My Love in the intro (0:16)? It sounds great!!!!
Thank you very much!!! That is a cover version i recorded in 2015. You can find it on my channel. It was my starting point to work on this project pretty much. I really appreciate you tuning in :)
It’s pretty amazing, really.
Fabulous job. Just when I thought I knew all there was to know about the Great Led Zeppelin.

this is amazing. and there’s 7 ? fuck yeah
This is fantastic. Great job
At the slow part of In The Evening, at Knebworth, Jimmy plays the intro riff to Achilles' Last Stand.
Great job. Excellent work
Thank you very much!
The Beginning Tune?? Ten years Gone into All My Love then a bunch of catchy “stuff” Who came up with this?? Love it! Love the whole series by the way always watching for more🎶✔️👏
Thank you for watching and stay tuned for Episode 7 series finale premieres September 25th honoring the year 1980 and John Bonham's untimely passing.
Good video about this disco-pop lp!
1 & 2 were great! Hope there's a part 3 still to come!
Thank you so much! Episode 3 premieres on August 27th at Noon!
I had a debate with someone once about Bonham playing either North or Stacatto Drums, in the studio, I saw the video but couldn't find it, he said I was nuts, but here it is, looks like Stacatto Drums
Never seen the JPJ Etta James footage or photo of Robert on the stool at a gig - thanks
Love in the evening cover. Awesome
Glad you like it!
Love it . Hey where can i hear the theme music , all my love . Its not on your spotify.
Hey Oliver thanks for watching! I will be offering a HD version via Patreon soon. Glad you liked it! Stay tuned for episode 3.
Wow really enjoyed Part 1 and 2
Some fantastic songs on that album

@@JCM-LedZeppelin-Stories Already subbed thank you for checking out my channel, IDK about a expert as I am always learning if there is anything I can help with I would be happy too. Your ITTOD album collection is insanely awesome !!
I too am blown away by the effort and level of detail you put into these videos. They are great!
I really wish you could have a human do the narration though. It’s almost too distracting to listen to at times.
But thank you for making the videos nonetheless!
Thank you so much! i appreciate your comment! Stay tuned for Episode 4, premieres Saturday.
Recording notes and sweet con-carne. My goodness! The details.
Con-Carne! The Secret Ingredient!
These are awesome.
I love this album. Since you played in LZ cover bands, What do you think of Dread Zeppelin? I saw them in 1986 at SunSplash in Montego Bay on the beach. Only reggae bands are invited to SunSplash and all the best reggae bands in the world played ( except UB40?).
Dread Zeppelin is like Primus hehe such a bizarre dimension. Their singer was just INCREDIBLE lol
"con carne " means "with beans"
@@jamesmorgan2064 means Con Carne means With Beef. With Beans would be Con Frijoles hehe. My first language is Spanish :)
@@JCM-LedZeppelin-Stories as soon as I saw what I wrote I realized my mistake 🤣. Haha you're correct 💯
Good stuff. Thanks alot.
I need to know the intro song. Can you please tell me what it is? I still think you should've narrated.
All of my Love
Hi Richard! Thank you for your support, on Episode 3 i take a look into this you ask :) Please subscribe and stay tuned!
@@MurrRockstroh I was wondering about the remix. The song that is actually playing.
They are played by keyboards in the intro of “In the Evening”, but yes, I reckon that is related to Jimmy’s interest in bowing drones.
we are putting together a Robert Plant tribute here in St Louis .. plantology! spanning his whole career
Great series so far. I wanted to listen to the soundtrack, but the links you posted are broken.
Thank you so much Alex. I will fix them for sure and paste my Spotify Link :)
