I'm upgrading all my bars to stainless. I had a scary incident where a flake of chrome from an old bar fell into my eye when I was benching. No permanent damage, but enough that I'm done with any "coated" kind of bar if I can help it. But I'm still up in the air about the added usefulness of a rackable curl bar over the standard size. When I do standing curls I prefer the straight bar and doing headbangers (which is what I mostly use the curl bar for) it doesn't seem any more convenient to rack it over just picking it up from the floor. I have this bar as well (stainless steel, EZ bar). Good to see I’m not the only one getting scratches on the sleeve. The more I deal with Rep....the less impressed I am with them. While not to the same level as Titan, they are not too far away.
Scratches on the sleeve are just from using it. The rust on the knurl as I talk about later in the video is definitely worse than I would expect from stainless.
@@GarageGymReviews I know you also talked about the Power Bar EX also getting rust. Would you say the full SS ohio power bar has better rust resistance?
@@GarageGymReviews thanks Coop! A little disappointing to see stainless rust. I am not in the market for a curl sticking to my ivanko 30lb curl bar... Got it college from my rastling days.. too much sentiment to use anything else. It might be older than I am.
My guess is that Rep is using 304 stainless instead of 316. 304 which is still pretty corrosion resistant at its cost but does contain a larger percentage of ferrite steel so you can check by putting a magnet on it. If it sticks well it's probably 304 in it just kinda sticks it's probably 316.
4:30 lil technical term, but you wouldn't be fighting gravity by rotating the plates, you'd be fighting their inertia. Gravity wouldn't be involved in rotation, because gravity is equally trying to rotate the plates in both directions, cancelling each other out.

High strength SS is usually far less corrosion resistant. Most of the really resistant types are quite low strength. Just clean it and give it light coats of oil occasionally.
I've had the normal rep curl bar and the power bar for a solid 3/4 of a year in Ohio summer/fall/winter and have zero rust (so far). For the record I haven't oiled it or anything beyond what came from the factory
Why don't these companies just make spotter arms or jhooks for a rack that angle inward to accommodate regular curl bars. I have an expensive irongrip steel curl loadable curl bar. I have yet to come across any that beat that in quality.
hmm, I like that it's rack able. But.... Stainless steel that rusts Immediately? Not good. Different angles benching would be fun. Kinda like a variation on a swiss bar.
As someone who has been into fancy pocketknives for years, the term "stainless steel" is about as meaningful as saying a $200/month program will get you 12-pack abs in 6 weeks. Unless a company specifies the composition of stainless (there are hundreds, if not thousands of types) then I really wouldn't consider it a positive selling point, especially if it's an imported product, or doesn't have a very strong track record for corrosion resistance. All stainless will rust under the right conditions. It'll just "stain less" than a comparable hi carbon steel.
I’ve been trying to buy more weights, but I would want Olympic, I only have a standard barbell so I would have to buy the weights and the barbell but I’ll try and wait to buy that later on.

I was literally just looking to see if they sold stainless ez curl bar yesterday and then you upload this how...? But I couldn’t find any stainless SUPER curls bars...
Hard pass on that bar. The Rogue has better knurling and bend profile, so the only reason would be stainless aspect, and if its cheap metal and rusting already whats the point. Reps pricing going up and quality going down.
I think I gave it a good enough critique. The rust is brought out especially by the lighting and the zoom lens. Not as easy to see in real life and stainless isn’t corrosion proof, but it will corrode. The view on the level of stainless has to be balanced with the price point as well.
