New to the hobby but I picked up one of my favorite films on Criterion last week - Mulholland Drive 4K. And Blue Velvet 4K comes out this week. It’s a great time to be a David Lynch fan.
For me, I am going to try to get "Sweet Smell of Success" (I used to have the DVD). That movie has Burt Lancaster in one of his most frightful roles as J.J. Hunsecker, a powerful newspaper opinion columnist. The character is really a cross between Walter Winchell and Joseph McCarthy. It will go well with the new blu-ray release of "Come Back, Little Sheba" in later July, where we see Burt Lancaster at his most vulnerable, as a recovering alcoholic who is currently on the wagon.
Well done, thanks. Thelma & Louise on my maybe list for July sale. For sure will buy Bound, Godland (Janus contemporaries), The Devil's Backbone. Too many others to angst over for a couple or three more. I have to recommend my all time favorite Criterion...The Great Beauty; academy award winner for best foreign film, BAFTA, Golden Globe.
Yes, it is the two Cary Grant movies - "Notorious" and "Brining Up Baby", that I would highly recommend as well. I have "Notorious" but I only have the DVD of "Brining Up Baby", so hopefully, it will be my chance to finally upgrade! 😊 And I so badly want Guillermo Del Toro's "Pinocchio". I prefer to watch stop-motion over CGI (does not mean that I hate CGI, but it can be over abundant at times).
I just purchased a new tv. Gotta pay that sucker down..so it’s a ‘no go’ for the CC sale w/B&N for me. I’ll jump on it next CC 24hr sale tho. Until then, for the rest of July, I’ll be living vicariously through Susan and the rest of the community. Maybe I’ll pick out a stack from my own personal criterion collection at home and pretend I went to B&N and rewatch the disc 🤣
Hi Sue! Great video. I have 9 of the 10 recommendations you mentioned. "Sound Of Metal" is the only one I don't have & is already on my list to pick up in July. The other titles on my list (so far) are: Anatomy Of A Fall / Devil In A Blue Dress / Happiness / Nothing But A Man / Pat Garrett & Billy The Kid / Peeping Tom / Risky Business / The Heroic Trio & Executioners / The Red Balloon & Other Stories. Take care! --- Bill
I really want to recommend rumble fish I know I gave you the dvd but I love the criterion it's really good. I plan to pick up. To die for and risky business
Some of your titles were alright. But, definitely headed to B&N for the Criterion sale. Some great movies I hope they have: Rope, Strangers on a Train, Last Exit to Brooklyn, Reds, and an abstract French film maker (forgot his name, sorry)

Awesome Barnes & Noble hunting trip video Sue. Keep up the fantastic work!
"The Heiress" is a brilliant film. It is one of my all time favorites.
I believe the sale starts this Friday 6/28! 🤩
It does!!!
I'm planning on picking up Pinocchio
Nice video I’m sure I’ll be picking up Pinocchio soon.
Thanks for watching!
Absolutely agree with you about "The Heiress". A brilliant classic movie.

"After Hours" - Highly recommended. A great film about the New York in the early 80s that no longer exists.
Thanks for the recs! I love Bringing Up Baby! So glad you love it.
I'm planning on getting the Godzilla boxset, and some older films this go around.
That's a good choice!

This list introduced me to so many movies I had no idea about
That's great! Happy to hear that!
For me, the bulk of Criterions are one time watches, but I do own their versions of The Last Emperor, Rebecca, and a truly excellent Hamlet (1948).

Smart idea! Lol
I truly appreciate your Criterion Collection recommendation list. I will get Thelma and Louise. Thanks, Sue, and I might get more from your list.

Great choices!
Parker Posey is great! Her role in Beau is Afraid is a must see
I didn't know she was in that!
@@MoviesSue Yep and without spoiling too much, she has one of the scariest scenes I’ve watched in a long time
Thanks Sue Criterion my favorite buy past year
Hi Susan thanks for doing this
I second Sound of Metal! Amazing movie!
I really want to recommend rumble fish I know I gave you the dvd but I love the criterion it's really good. I plan to pick up. To die for and risky business
I was thinking about it!
Was there that much of a difference between the Netflix stream vs the 4K of Pinocchio? Thanks!
I haven't watched the Criterion yet, as I mentioned in the video.
Criterion's & Sue 👍🏻
Lol I like it!

Thanks?
I wouldn't call rope great.
Sue was stuck in bed with a broken leg. The Jimny Stewart love started there. 😂😂
I didn't watch Jimmy Stewart films until recently, so you're incorrect.
@@MoviesSue It was only a joke, just kidding. It doesn't matter if I'm correct or not, sorry.
