How many folks are marine or army veterans here after having your knees and shin destroyed after years of running in hard asphalt?

When I ETS’d in 2005 I was surprised to find knee pain while tryin mg to step up or down, especially when holding my oldest who was a baby then. Fast forward to 14 months later, struggled through police academy runs which were never really ones that should have been super taxing (compared to what I used to do at PT at Bragg and later Camp Hovey Korea. Now I have drop foot in my left side from a lower back injury (which was partially pre existing from bad PLF’e). If I can run a 9:50 mile right now, I feel like a major accomplishment. Stinks. I walk a ton, but would really like to be able to run even halfway decent again.

Have you ever looked into knees over toes guy? I have not gone all in, but our treadmill motor burned out, and I now use it to walk backwards (incline feature still works too) for 20 to 30 minutes on days when weather is nasty. It gives resistance with the dead motor, think same as if a working one was just not powered up. I also purchased a cheap sled from Titan fitness Christmas before covid. I push that weighted, then have a strap attachéd and wrap around my waist and walk backwards with the same weight. I also do tibia los raises with my shins, though I have two ways to do it and when using both ankles at same time the one with drop foot is definitely not carrying its load. His stuff might help you and a lot you can start off with little to no equipment.

i jog for about 5minutes, completely not phased in terms of respatory wise, etc, but my shin area, idk if its my tibialis anterior or what but it just siezes up, pains like shin splints or like its just getting stiff and full, starts to get weak and its similar to this, not sure what to do about it because i need to run for boxing but it wipes me out.

    Ey up Ortho Eval Pal,
i have chronic compartment syndrome in both legs for 15 years, 2 operations in 1 leg and has not worked. my right leg is numb like a block of timber horrible to touch my legs too.
i used to play rugby, football, run and so on , was very active but can not do anything now.
doctors and surgents in my area do not seem know what they can do as the operations did not work. if i was on that tread mill i would have stopped running 20 seconds into it. if i was trying to ride my push bike, id be walking with it rather then biking on it.
is there anyone who had an operation that didn't work, and what did you do next to get the correct medical treatment that's needed for fixing this chronic compartment syndrome ?
be interesting to know as i do not seem to get any further with doctors in my area
    thank you

I had compartment syndrome for most of this year, I was really frustrated and I was highly considering surgery, as a last ditch effort I went on a 4 day water only fast since I heard after 48hrs of fasting your body produces %2000 more growth hormone and stem cells to repair your body while starving, luckily this cured my compartment syndrome and I was able to get back to jogging normally, it’s worth a try, worst case scenario is you wasted 4 days, good luck hope you’re doing better now!

@@youngnutsack17 ey up thank you for the advise on the 4 day of just drinking water ill give that a try but is that with or with out food lol?
well the NHS doctors gave up on me as they don't know what to do but they referred me to private SPIRE who called me and sounded promising about the whole thing.
it took me a bit to get to this point as i told my GP that im getting passed from pillar to post and no ones knows anything only then i found out they referred me to spire. spire wants to operate asap but still waiting for hull royal to do their part by giving me a pulse test but its taking for ever.
the only other thing that helped my CCS was K laser therapy and that was actually really good but it does not last for ever so constant treatment at £130 for the 2 legs every 4 weeks tallies up and just not able to afford that to be honest
looks like im getting drunk on the old aqua for 4 days now lol.
      thanks

He shouldn't be in orthotics, he already has a huge arch. He's a mid food runner which is not ideal.
    Hopefully a release will help!

@@OrthoEvalPal this is EXACTLY what I am going through and is the most frustrating thing on the plentet. I am exploring some pretty extreme options trying to avoid surgery. • @GrtH
      @GrtH 2 роки тому +2

@@julianaribeiro1765 I have made progress conditioning the muscle nearly every day. Not cured, but as long as there’s progression you will eventually get to where is acceptable. This is what I’ve found most beneficial to me:
•Practice walking on your heels with your toes pointed up (keep track to distance and gradually increase it)
•stretch using a step or anything that you can sink your body weight onto your toes (like if you were going to do a calf raise) and sit there for a allotted time (switch to 1 foot at a time once getting past 2m easily)
•lay on your back and thread a resistance band through something near the same height or ground level (I used a heavy dumbbell). Place the handle of a resistance band (or thick part if you have a big one) around the top portion of your foot. Scoot backwards till you meet acceptable resistance. Pull your foot upwards as FAR as you can many reps as you can do (keep track) or break it up into sets and alternate holding or repping.
      • literally run. I run at a slow pace till I start experiencing foot droop or when that portion start burning then stop and stretch on a curb like the second thing I listed till it subsides enough to continue a slow run. Repeat till the muscle specifically because exhausted
