The 2 stroke was then designed after as an improvement. Which it is and I can speak from experiance of going to four strokes and still keep coming back to a 2 stroke because of the above issues.
@ian9toes Exactly, at equal displacement, however, 4 strokes with equal horsepower will slaughter a two stroke for torque. Hell, 250 four strokes are smaller bikes than 250 2 strokes. Displacement doesn't just mean the size of an engine by the way. It measures the bore, the stroke, and the number of cylinders, so a 4 stroke 250 can be smaller than a 2 stroke 250. The exact equation for displacement is pi divided by 4 X Bore squared X number of cylinders x stroke.

hey guys umm i was at my local dirtbike dealership and i sat on a hondacrf250r and it was perfect my tip of my foot was perfectly on the ground then i sat on the crf450r it was somehow smaller then the 250 which 1 should i get the 250r or 450r im only 12 yrs old and 5.6

@plow250 well i don't think they're slower but i'm no cross expert, i ride other kind of bikes..they're just more "nervous" to handle and has more power at lows, that's all..i guess. if you other differences about cross 2 and 4 strokes please tell me, i have to learn more :P

the only reson 4 strokes cam on the market is the aftermarket. everyone makes more money off the addional parts of a 4 stroke. i got one to see what it was all about and i enjoy it, but then again ive got a moped too. i think the carbuerated strokes are the real race machines

They should just have a 125 2-stroke only class, to keep costs down, and an open class, where 2's and 4's can compete together with whatever cc's they want. Then we could really see what is the ultimate size and motor is. Open class is the only way to go, and that is what monster energy are going to be doing, unfortunately though, the 450's are so developed ahead of the 2's.
It's insane that you can have a huge lead and it just be wiped out in an instant. It's all about rhythm through that stuff, and momentum of course but if you get your rhythm going you blow through it, i.e. 2:57-3:30

@Margalus89 well, i come from bike like the crf150 f.... its a trail bike, made for lollygagging or woods riding,... just a fun mess around bike, but now i have a 2011 KTM 250sxf, and its a freakin monster! its unbeleiveably fast with the fuel injection, and infact is lighter than my 150f cuz it made for moto, and its overall design, and the new technology that 4 strokes have is better, or atleast competes with 2 strokes, but 2 strokes will always be faster once they hit the powerband
@Eduardo12388 I am just saying that you could have a 250 four stroke and a 250 2 stroke with the same power and could tune the 250 2 stroke to deliver that power the same way as the four stroke does sacraficing that max power for torquey linear power. 2 strokes are designed to push out peak power at a small rev range to keep up with modern day four strokes. All I am saying is if things were on a level playing field 250 against 250 with a power output limit instead of a cc advantage 2 stroke wins

The thing is it's the other way around, 4 strokes are advancing in technology and 2 strokes are becoming outdated. Most modern day 4 strokes weigh only a few pounds more than 2's. This probably amounts to the end of Honda's Cr's.They both are great for different things. A Cr 500 puts out around 70 horsepower, but all that does is spin the back tire.
Why does taddy take the same line over the rocks? I mean he messed up every time and it cost him alot at the end because he almost lost. But still taddy is awesome.

Physically the 4 stroke will be BIGGER, valves are bigger than ports

Notice how the 2-Strokes are light so they can be tossed around easily through the rocks and other obstacles yet the 4-$trokes have trouble?

i watched this on versus and it look like to me that the 4 strokes made it a little better than 2 strokes.
This looks so much harder than Motocross because your on a tight track that changes everywhere.... GO KTM
