Love my original bb36 - if you struggle with the lack of on-the-fly adjustment, try steel reef. I bought one of their retrofit extension links and it works a treat
That exact BB36 is my grail watch, and I hope to gift myself one for Christmas. I tried on the new version last year. While the jubilee bracelet was comfortable, I prefer the sportier look of the older model. Plus, the ETA/Sellita movement would be less expensive to service. The only gain is the T-fit clasp. If Tudor updates it again, here’s hoping they use a 20mm lug width and revert back to lacquered dials.
I have had the black BB36 going on six years now. Still keeps near perfect time at +/- 3 a day. Nothing beats wearing it in the original bracelet with a SteelReef easy link. I wear it alongside my original Planet Ocean, SMPc300 and blue Black Bay 58. 36mm is nice from time to time and perfectly suitable for a males wrist as mine is 7.5in. Tried the Uncle Straps Jubilee and it feels like a cheap eBay/AliExpress watch which ultimately cheapens the whole feel of the watch. Should probably sell it as it’s been worn less than three times after giving it multiple chances haha.
Specs aside, I much prefer the older version. I think the matte dials look much better, and the older black version with its more simple / less gilded look was great.
I have the BB 36mm in Anthracite and love the jubilee/5 link bracelet, which comes with an adjustable on the fly to change the size! I prefere the new ones tbh also they have a cosc in-house movement defo the best than it's previous generation. I also got the BB 54 and monochrome in 41mm... I must say they all quality whenever I get bored from one of them I tend to wear the other as I gotta rotate around to keep them ticking lol But I wouldn't go over 41mm, 36mm is a sweet spot for me as well as the Anthracite dial suits my skin tone. I got other brands too like the tag heuer kirium, hamilton khaki field automatic and tissot prx in ice blue...
36 is an absolute amazing size. I have both a DJ36 and the explorer 36 and can safely say they are the most comfortable watches I have. I go as big as 41 with my IWC Pilot's Chronograph and 42 with my Omega SMP 300M Diver. But with my two Rolex's being 36, Nomos club campus 36, and Grand Seiko SBGW287 at 37.3mm, I have gotten very used to the 36mm range and prefer it for watches that are all dial and date no or no date. When it come to divers, chronographs, and GMTs, then 39-42 range is great and just depends on lug-to-lug.
Great review and comparison. I nearly purchased an original BB36 in black not long before they introduced the 2nd gen. I tried it on at a local jewellers and really liked it. At the time I think rrp was £2670, but it was discounted ahead of the new model (possibly 20%). Unfortunately I didn’t purchase and then was subsequently disappointed with the new model, bracelet and the ridiculous price hike. The San Martin 36mm and the Tissel 36mm that I tried to fill the to void with were moved on. Maybe one day.
I had the old one for a while and really liked it! I think the new one lost a lot of the charm and the price increase is pretty unpleasant. Mine was super accurate at +1 to +2 seconds per day, for the two or so years I had it
Had the BB36 for a couple of years, but ultimately sold it, as I thought it a little too small- a great timekeeper though. Of course it's all subjective, however, for me the 39mm case is the absolute sweet spot- and tudor do several models at this size.
Sometimes I think I should have just kept my BB36 that i got in early 2020...think of the money I'd have in the bank and still have a cracking watch. But i do love the new ones... the new blue dial is a stunner.
The uncle president (now lincoln) bracelet is the absolute winner for this watch imo. I prefer it over both shown here personally. It makes it a little bit more vintage than the oem and isn't blingy like the jubilee. 👌
Another interesting video as always, thank you. I have a 7.25" wrist & my main collection consists of 43mm, 41mm & 40mm watches but have tried on (multiple times) & waiting on a 36mm Explorer. I now see Oyster style cases as a 36mm case & have tried on 41mm Datejusts but see them as too big. Each to their own but I think old school 36mm is the perfect size for this style of watch. I also fart about changing straps but always end up back on the factory bracelet, it's like the manufacturer knows what they're doing??😂
Prefer the older one. The bracelet and the dial, and as you said, the text. Not every dial has to be some flashy sunburst that's always playing with the light. They're good, but I like matte too.
I bought two Tudors. I sold them. The problem is they are quite ungainly, they are not as thin as their counterparts and it really matters. They also don’t feel as nice to wear. They do not keep their value and that’s right out of their box. I’ve sold a lot of watch’s and it took me 4 months to sell one of the Tudors I had and that was heavily discount. Most watches I’ve sold that were about the same price range from say Omega sold within a week at the right price.
I enjoyed my BB36 Blue but its case flanks have the graceful curves of a brick. It’s a beautifully made watch but it’s so slab sided compared to my neo vintage 36mm Tudor Prince Date it left the collection to be replaced by a Rail Master. It’s a great watch and if it suites your taste, enjoy it and wear it in good health.
The original 36mm is a great watch, very well made but just a fraction too small for me, although someone I know described it as a cheap looking g-shock 🤷♂️. The new clasp is welcome, but the bracelet change makes it a little to dressy in my opinion.
It's not a "5 link bracelet" - it's a 5 piece/part link. The parts of the link are not themselves links. You can call the parts of the link "pieces", "parts" or "segments" but they're not links!
IMHO the original one looked better. There is something pleasant about the "smiley" printing on the lower half of the dial. I live in hope that Chinese manufacturers will produce a mecaquartz homage in 36mm soon.
Im more of a tool/sports watch should be bigger 40-42mm and dress watches should be smaller 35-39 mm school of thought. Not a hard and fast rule and the watch Is nice. " Doesn't look bad" that's exactly the look I'm going for lol , I want it to look amazing on me .
Current one ahead of the older one in all areas. Though the dive-style dial doesn’t work with the smooth bezel imho on either version. OEM 5-link better than aftermarket & Artem strap you plug.

100% I have the discontinued 36 Blue dial.
Love it

And the bracelet. It seems like Tudor should have just put snowflake hands on the 1926

Great video Andy thanks for the content this week.
I prefer the new version, in a 39mm size with that lovely jubilee bracelet
If they ever release a green one, I'd get it immediately!

Thanks for the info, especially about straps & bracelets. I enjoy your videos
4:00 the mt5602 movement is metas capable movement and because of that is 2mm fatter. around 6.5mm.

My next watch for sure. Loving it since the updated was released in 2023.

Love my new blue 36
Love the original watch. I was torn between that and the Black Bay Steel. The date got me to buy the Steel.

I own the new Champagne dial and could not be happier.
I never thought I could love a 36mm watch so much.

Depth is probably more to do with the crown and crown tube being smaller.

Don't forget the silver dial of the old version
It's not a "5 link bracelet" - it's a 5 piece/part link. The parts of the link are not themselves links. You can call the parts of the link "pieces", "parts" or "segments" but they're not links!
I think the original smiley face dial watches are destined to become collectors favorites. Tudor is where Rolex was in the 1960’s.
If I could get the new version with the old dials on an oyster, I’d probably stop collecting altogether.
IMHO the original one looked better. There is something pleasant about the "smiley" printing on the lower half of the dial.

Strangely, the watch looks very different on your arm compared to Lady Gaga’s!😂
Not a fan of the new black bay. It just goes against its ethos
Is the crown not screwed in? Why?
It is screw in, just different.
zzzzzzzzzzzzz......
Boring watch, no?
Probably the ultimate….. “why on earth did I by that piece of crap” Watch! 😅
Anything but a Beckham black bay club
The new Version is way better, no one cares about the 50mtrs down grade on the water resistance
Disagree i prefer the older dial colour and bracelet.
@ u cant afford to buy the newer version u hypocrite dummy white boy
