Thanks to the entry of other music directors in Indian film industry after maestroilayaraja. Because after their entry only we can Clearly understand the talent of Ilayaraja sir's brilliance
Sorry I don’t know to type in Tamizh. Yes I totally agree with you ! When children and animals can enjoy and appreciate music it’s not surprising humans need not have knowledge of music to savour it enjoy and appreciate it. K V Mahadevan and Ilayaraja have injected new life into classical/ carnatic music we are ever indebted to these stalwarts of music

As a Tamil lover, I had marveled at Vairamuthu's lines at a young age. That was the colorful attire the poet had clothed a man with whom we could relate to. But Mr. Gurucharan has, in his dissection of all the songs of Salangai Oli with all its nuances, showed the respiratory, circulatory and nervous systems of the body that make up the living, breathing body that we call man, with whom we REALLY relate to. Especially in his previous episode of Classicism. Without these internal, working systems, the words of poets would never have reached us. Thanks a lot to Raja sir for having made our lives meaningful, even if it were to listen to one of these masterpieces. And thanks again to Mr. Gurucharan for presenting this, poetically. In fact, it would be better in light music, marriage or other functions orchestra, if singers go off on a tangent and play with ragas, delve into other songs with slightly different, subtle variations and enthrall the audience with the vastness of classical music, rather than singing the same song which is difficult though, but is no different from hearing it on your earphones. Instead, these variations would be enjoyable to the audience for their uniqueness, making them clamouring for more, while pushing the envelope for the singers.
உருளும் பாட்டிலுக்குள் இத்தனை சோகமா! yes Balakrishnan is tossed and mercilessly thrown into wilderness by the cruel hands of fate to perish Am reminded of the verse காற்றில் உதிர்ந்த வண்ணமலர் கண்ணீர் சிந்தும் வண்ணமலர் ஆற்றில் வந்து விழுந்த தம்மா அலைகள் கொண்டு சென்று சென்ற தம்மா and of Shellys words I fall upon the thorns of life I bleed 37 வருடங்களுக்கு முன் இயக்குனர் விஸ்வநாதன் உருட்டிய ஒரு பாட்டிலுக்கு வியாக்யானம் கொடுக்கும் ஒரு குரு சரண் Hats off
Sikkil, if allowed to be a Jerry Maguire, would have told the rasigargal, "you complete me". So nice of you to listen to the numerous requests and offer this brilliant episode. Even if it was a avasara koottam, the analysis has been going on from 1987 , just outright brilliant, thanks to all those who made you do this comeback.
What a great genius Ilayaraja Sir..amazing to note how he handled different Ragas with slightest change ..Kudos to you Sir detailing us the difference👍👍
Hello. Nice episode again. The point about beginning the film in a mangala ragam (Kalyani) and ending the film with mangalam in Madhyamavathi is an excellent point. This is very conscious from Ilayaraja because it is something he has done in another song itself. A ragamalika and swaraksharam in Enna Samayalo also begins in Kalyani and ends in a proper mangalam in Madhyamavathi in nadhaswaram (a mangala vaadhyam). He gives a proper kacheri feel there. Also, the flute and veenai you mention. Terrific music. The flute there almost feels like it imitates the gale wind and veenai almost feels like rain drops pelting down. Again, no one like Ilayaraja to bring ambient sounds organically into music and yet not disturbing the larger arc of the music or its melodic ideas for the sake of sound. Finally, on the Telugu version, there is a part in the pallavi where Veturi writes Tadabadu adugula tappani taalaanaa. Tadisina pedavula regina raagaanaa. Accordingly, as the first charanam ends and pallavi begins again, Ilayaraja has SPB sing a jadhi in place of taalaanaa and croon an aalaapanai in place of raagaanaa. Raaja and Veturi are so much in sync in this song, it's beautiful.
Lovely lovely analysis! Respect to your deep sense of appreciation for IR. Thanks for sharing such insights with us! Jannal Oram is enriched even more!
Recently many of us saw our maestro's b'day celebration program in which Seeman's naive analysis of Maestro's music took the limelight whereas our man Mr.Sikkil who has dedicated multiple episodes on IR's musical prowess in such fine details, had to sit on the stage in the background and humbly listen to what Seeman had to say. Kaliyugam.
Aum Namasivaya, This is RaagavNambu (your mom is my music guru in TNGMusic College (Sanjay), A very superb educative explanation (that shows your vidwath), I'm very thankful for your fine explanation of my roll model ISAIGNANI song 🙏🙏🙏
No one can beat Raja’s compositions. Secondly, your deep explanation is awesome. Nowadays no music director comes with this kind of composition. Keep it your good work.
This episode was a Thillana from both sides - enjoyed the thakida thadimi in shanmuka Priya as well as the thillana in your fluent speaking style which is as pleasing as the singing . Hats off !
Maestro arumai still many ppl don't understand esp the new gen folks.. am a die hard fan of his music till date and forever, still wondering and trying to analyse how he could tune certain songs so brilliantly.. simply bliss and he is truly a musical genius
I am in my late 30s and was not trained or exposed deeply to carnatic music in my childhood and my musical senses were basically through the music and scores in films that made me feel a certain way. While I was able to realise how carnatic music impacted the people who practised the art and deeply understood the technical framework, I was personally not able to connect with the sensibilities because i saw this as a siloed art form. I deeply respect what your are doing. you are providing a window/bridge to an amazing world for people like me to feel it. I am now inspired to dive deep and take the effort to understand and learn more. The world needs more people like you who can help everyone else see art forms through these lenses. Provides more meaning and purpose to life. Thank you so much! I hope i speak for a lot of people like me when I say this. ❤️
Can’t thank you enough for enlightening and explaining music lovers the invaluable contribution of Ilayaraja for this movie. Thanks to K Vishwanath garu too who was a guiding force and also trusted Ilayaraja and gave him the liberty and freedom. Kamalhasan also has great music sense might have given valuable suggestions to Ilayaraja. It’s a true teamwork but the major credit goes to Captain Ilayaraja
Great sir! Humble namaskarams to your presentation of Raja's greatness. In 1983 itself, the genius of Raja had done so much intricate thinking for a single film, that has had even Great musicians like you in his mesmerizing songs.... I am at a loss of words to either praise Raja sir or you... I think I am fortunate to have lived in the time of Raja sir....
I must thank you profusely, as I thought of this movie purely as a Telugu movie. Unfortunately, in many places in Karnataka, I think only the Telugu version was released. So I always thought that the Tamizh version was a dubbing. (Dubbing somehow always get a second grade and never grade.) Only when you mentioned Vairamuthu, it opened my eyes this movie was made in Tamizh equally seriously. THANK YOU VERY MUCH. Loved this part and now I have to watch the movie both in Telugu and Tamizh at least 2 times (again as I watched the original Telugu version in the cinema in 1983 at least 5 times) . 🙏🙏
Awesome, no words to explain. I wrote a full length review of this movie as a viewer explaining the culmination part of the movie. Also you can narrate the scene in the beach of vizag with thunderous wave and the emotions and music will completely drain us. Similar suggestion of kv sir genius and bhanupriya's class, pls elaborate on Swarna kamalam another tribute to the great composer and director.
Kasinadhuni Vishwanath 's master creation " Sagara Sangamam ". Sometimes it's divine will that this kind of combination happens k vishwanath + kamal + ilayaraja and the product is extraordinary. Your Analyses is very Good
Superrrrrb episode. God bless you sir 🙏
Gurucharan. I enjoy carnatic music with no knowledge in it probably only because of you. I have no words to thank you for making me smile and be happy when I listen to your Jannal Oram. Please make us happy and keep doing the great job. But don't stop this.
Awesome brother !! It is infact a sangamam of a lot of legends in this movie. Kamal , Ilayaraja, K vishwanath , SPB , vairamuthu . Not particularly in that order . Great work in bringing out the musical nuances in a way understood by fans like me. Once again , Thanks and please keep up this Great work.
I was in VMA and we used to compete against you, Sai Shravanam, Harini and other heavyweights in various culturals and also other competitions. You were so amazing and we invariably lost lol or won when you all weren’t present. So great to see you rise so high!
Amazing. The dissection by Gurucharan is superb on this song . The songs, composition by Isaigyani baffles me everytime i listen in the audiobox, not missing any song. My most favourite bringing goosebumps and tears everytime is of course is the pinnacle Vedham aNuvilum. Hats off Gurucharan.
Listening to this comment about this song is bringing tears ... So beautiful. Heartfelt experiences... Excellency of all legends ... K. Viswanath, Kamal, illayaraja and spb sir...
Excellent service.
What an amazing dissection of the song,Gurucharanji!Hats off to u.This only shows u have enjoyed every bit of the song.......why.....every bit of the film itself!Avasara jannal Oram has thrown light on various aspects of the song.Thank u ji.
Awesome. Classic dissection of the excellent composition. I had to jump compound wall of a theatre to get ticket. Though didn't know the raagam then, the song stayed in my mind for years. Thats the genius of Raja Sir. Wonderful to hear shanumkapriya played by nadaswaram vidwans during purapaadu during Vaikunta Ekadesi festival in our village temple. I was thinking why you missed the song last episode, but had an inkling that there's something more to it.
Interesting, and wonderfully explained, sir!! Like I've always said, a masterclass indeed. Also, an honorable mention to the second charanam of the Telugu version that has a beautiful reference to Alarulu Kuriyaga, the krithi by Saint Annamacharya: "Alarulu kuriyaga naadenadhe.. Alukala kulukula alamelmanga.. Anna annamayya maata.. Accha thaene telugu paata.. Pallavinchu padha kavithalu paade..."
So grateful to this series! How well researched and presented in such a very interesting fashion for all rasikas! When I heard the previous episode of Silangai Oli, I was tad crushed at the omission of Takita Tadimi, but did not want to sound too greedy :) Thanks for the sequel. Fantastic series! It has helped us enjoy these masterpieces in a wonderfully new dimension.
Before this episode I liked the music, song...Now after watching Gurucharanji, I have fallen in love with the song, music....like BalaKrishnan's love for dance and Madhavi...Thank you Gurucharanji...Tons and Tons of Thank you...
This show reminds me a lot about "karnataka isaiyum cinemavum" by Madurai G.S.Mani. I used to hear it a lot during my childhood days in the cassette player and later got the mp3 version of it as well. I always wonder why no one does this comparison with the recent songs and you have satisfied the same. Thanks a lot for the show, this helps people like me who don't understand carnatic music but like to learn it via cinema music.
The aalap at 11:20 reminds me of Sollayo vaithirandhu from Mogamul again in shanmukapriya. Pls do a separate vlog on Mogamul which is another fantastic carnatic songs based treat by maestro.
How heartwarming? A pure classical musician demystifying and explaining film music which was once shunned as impure and not worthy. Today's youth are breaking all glass ceilings. May your tribe increase Tnx Charan for another scintillating episode. God bless
SG the depth of your analyses is stunning! Academic type research is an important forte of your broad personality. Mata Saraswati's grace has enveloped you.
My God. Where were you all these days. The best programme I had seen in you tube all these years. I love the movie and the songs. Thank you, sir for bringing out the nuances.
Listening carnatic music from the days of your grandmother's. At those period they had reservation about spreading the nunukkams to the public. But in your generation you are taking efforts to make even layman who doesn't know anything about carnatic music. Your tireless efforts and the way of presentation simply awesome. Hats off to you. Finally after your brief explanation heard that Thakidathagimi song with preludes and enjoyed very much. Thank you and pray Almighty for your prosperity.
Sikkil excellent ma ,u mesmerised us with ur explanation and exploration of the song, but kumizhi means bubble and not candle ma,U are an encyclopaedia of the ragas used in Raja’s songs.keep it up kanna
Such a beautifully put together presentation. Not to mention rendered in a clear, melodious voice ,at ease with multilingual fusion. Thank you for the special song / BGM highlights, the glimpses of other Shanmukhapriya compositions, raga nuances, Tamizh poetry. So much packed in a short capsule so well!
Namaskaram Anna I follow all your videos regularly. They are truly inspiring and entertaining! You have such a magnetic voice that completely captures listeners' hearts ! ❤️ Am 22 years old and listening to you, my interest for Carnatic music is getting deeper. Thank you so much for sharing such beautiful and informative content ! Moreover, I want to convey something to you .. Your version of Thiruvempavai and Thirupalliezhuchi is my all time favourite Playlist! Devotion for Siva gets more intense listening to you ! Almost everyday I listen to atleast 3-4 Paadals of Thiruvempavai.. Sometimes the entire 1 hr jukebox ! Such a soulful rendition which deserves more recognition ! ❤️ ~Sivapriya Subramanian
Pirichu meijitinga....your analysis is top notch and splendid. Shanmukapriya is my favorite. your depth of classical music knowledge is mind blowing. you surely full filled the salangai oli episode. wonderful and keep doing more videos and we are there to support and learn from you.

Thank you for the detailed feedback! 🙏🏽

Thank you very much. 🙂🙏🏽
I am mesmerized to see how much you have enjoyed the song!
Good explanation about Raja Sir good voice Guru Sir pl.keep it up God bless you 04-10-22
Boss sema boss carry on . poonkunran said 2000 years ago . super
Excellent breakdown of a superb classic. From 14:40 onwards "Manidhan dhinamum" was brilliant. Loved it
Gurucharan. I enjoy carnatic music with no knowledge in it probably only because of you. I have no words to thank you for making me smile and be happy when I listen to your Jannal Oram. Please make us happy and keep doing the great job. But don't stop this.
Super enna antha nalku azaithu sendratharku nandri🙏

Aahhaaaa arpudham en manadhirkku ukandha Shanmukapriya raagam thannil indha paatai amaitha Raja sirkku oru nandri. Ungalukkum en siram thaazhndha nandrigall idha paatai indha madhiri pirithu kaatiyadharkku 🙏🏻

What an amazing dissection of the song,Gurucharanji!Hats off to u.This only shows u have enjoyed every bit of the song.......why.....every bit of the film itself!Avasara jannal Oram has thrown light on various aspects of the song.Thank u ji.
Love your love for Kamal, my most favorite.
I am loving this series. As a Raaja fan very excited to learn the intricacies of these wonderful compositions. 🙏
Also, an honorable mention to the second charanam of the Telugu version that has a beautiful reference to Alarulu Kuriyaga, the krithi by Saint Annamacharya:
"Alarulu kuriyaga naadenadhe.. Alukala kulukula alamelmanga.. Anna annamayya maata..
Accha thaene telugu paata.. Pallavinchu padha kavithalu paade..."
So grateful to this series! How well researched and presented in such a very interesting fashion for all rasikas!
When I heard the previous episode of Silangai Oli, I was tad crushed at the omission of Takita Tadimi, but did not want to sound too greedy :)
Thanks for the sequel.
Hi sir enakkullum oru aathamgam irunthathu intha song patri thank u sir....from Italy
Excellent presentation Sikkim Gurucharan Sir. In fact, this is a great tribute to Ilayaraja Sir, Kamalahasan and the film
May your tribe increase
Tnx Charan for another scintillating episode.
God bless
Glad that you are explaining all these nuances which many ppl don't know..
SG the depth of your analyses is stunning! Academic type research is an important forte of your broad personality. Mata Saraswati's grace has enveloped you.

Sir unga SHIRT kuda sangeetham pathi epaium pesuthu....you have lot of potential....really appreciate...what your doing
Excellent explanation sir

You presentation is amazing....
