Thanks Paul for taking the time to review the NgTubeEq. I already know I'm getting one and the HE-2 also. Keep the videos coming brother. All the best.
These are the 2 I'm pairing together over the mix bus with the Wes Audio NG bus. Having used the Carnaby 500 I have every confidence it'll pair really well with the tube EQ. Will give you a gritter option.
Likewise. I reserved judgement thinking it would be somewhat fiddly to work with and rely way too much on the plugin to get full access to its features. However after getting it I quickly realised everything is accessible from the hardware and not too complicated to use. No real menu diving. And the sound of that tube output really surprised me. Also the fact you can switch output in the unit. Unlike other EQs and you choose the output on the back via the XLR outs.
Excellent video Paul. I bet you cannot wait to get your Cranborne HE2 to go with it. When I talked to the store where I reserved my HE2 they said they were pushed back to June. please as soon as you get yours do a review. Yes can't wait to receive the HE2. Going to be going onto my mix bus with the Wes Audio bus comp and Tube EQ. I was informed the same as you, has been pushed back due to supply issues. I think the mid June release date is quite solid though. I won't be able to get early access because of this. But as soon as it arrives with me I'll be getting a video shot and also will be making some presets for it for Cranborne Audio. Glad you are liking the Ferrofish. You know the issue with getting outside help on something like an interface. Everyone will recommend what they use. I have no horse in the race and out of everything you could have bought. Thanks for your awesome review on this unit, as alwyas. WES audio is bringing high-quality specs to the market with its products indeed. I only have 1 big reservation regarding these DAW integration units (any brand)....driver obsolescence. Do you know what WES Audio's reputation is regarding supporting the drivers? It's a #### load lot of money for a person if you ending up losing the plugin functionality after 2-3 years for example.......
@RossM-lv3kn wes Audio have been around for a long time. They won't be going anywhere. This is also my major concern. There are laws now that stop the likes of Apple from changing ports that don't support older products. The good thing about wes audio is that all functionality is accessible off the hardware. You can even save settings to the hardware. So if you were to disconnect from the computer the only thing you lose is the digital recall via the computer. So you still have a piece of hardware that works like any other hardware.
I haven't had the chance to directly compare them. If I was given the choice of the two, I'd choose the NG Tube EQ. Which is why I've gone with that over the massive passive.
.I have buzz audio eq, which is not a tube eq. Would you consider this over a vari mu compressor as a color box or get the vari mu. Something that’s versatile for mixing and mixbus. Because I have no tube gear as we speak. Just a solid state mixbus compressor. And As you say tube warmth is what I’m looking for…
I'd say you'd probably get more out of a vari mu in your chain as you gain a compressor to add to your buzz. You'll certainly get the tube colour you desire with the tube EQ but you may find the tube EQ replace a lot of what you do with the buzz.
@tennactennacerobert7732 100% yes. That's my favourite compressor of all time. I've got an unfairchild, elsia alpha, shadow hills compressor and maselec mla3. And for me the SPL is always my go to compressor.
Appreciate the review. It's interesting as a product but I've never bought Wesaudio products for exactly the reason you like it. I don't want a digital control component to analog hardware. It's one more thing to break and that will need to be updated to work as a plugin. If I wanted to work with a plugin, I'd buy a plugin mastering EQ and not spend $6k. Also, at only ~$2700 cheaper than a Massive Passive mastering EQ, which one of those will hold value better? I guarantee it's the Manley. And lastly, it appears to have a tube make up gain stage as one option but no tube line drivers, which I would prefer in a "tube" eq.
@@AudioAnimalsStudio Sorry if this posts twice. Thanks for your reply. I do need to come to better terms with digital because as you noted, it makes recall much easier. Anyway, I really enjoy your channel and reviews.
@AS-mm3wi I have recently removed a lot of gear that is not digitally recallable and switched it for digitally recallable gear.
