Hope you're doing well. There are a few things that I didn't cover this video such as the bios mods to run the Xeons at higher clocks. I'll revisit that when my new Aliexpress combos come in (: Description is heavy with links and information, but I wanted to make sure I covered everything. Ok bye for now
Also can you pls do a 500 dollar PC build in 2020 I’m new to PC’s and don’t have a lot money all I want is a decent build I think some people are with me
Best cpu you can get for x79 is the 2696v2, has a 3.2ghz all core boost and 12 cores to boot for 110 off of aliexpress. Dont know why you said that the x79 has a limitation of 10 cores... This is being sent from a 1650v2 6c 12th @4.3ghz (not even a hard OC, ive seen people with a 4.7ghz OC with this cpu on this exact board) system with 40gb of ram in 2x4gb and 2x16gb config in quad channel 1866 cl10 ECC and a cheapo Jengsha x79m motherboard I got for 66 bucks. Just gotta know what boards have a Russian bios you can slap on them to get better performance/better OC. And with x99, you cannot forget Miconst's channel, who has literally everything you could ever want to know about the Chinese motherboards, and the legendary x99 all core turbo bug. also, you can get the 1650v3 ES that has OC for 46 bucks on aliexpress, so if you want x99 OC that is an option too. Same with the 1660v3 being 130 bucks on Ebay, as its essentially a 1680v2 but with better ipc and heat output. Hopefully soon servers will stop using the 1691v3 and 1681v3 and we could see them on the used market, 10 and 14 core overclockable xeons would be nice to see for "budget" enthusiasts.
Drop a big thanks Brian for dropping the tip on the GT 645 they are so cheap and perfect for putting in epsports machines i keep putting together at the minute, they sell out so quickly, without the heads up on the HP workstations & those cards it would of pretty hard to meet the demand Cheers for the used hussle help.
I was expecting the big text to pop on screen surrounding your head when you were saying the video title, especially at the pace and rhythm you were saying it, where was it???
My advice is to check out the E5-2667 V1 if you're looking at X79. They can be had for about $30-35 and offer considerably more bang for the pennies than the SKU Oz mentioned. Same platform, same idea. For what it's worth, my last computer was a dual Xeon X5150 and that got me through to 2018, but barely.
I am a simple man: I see Ozzy, I hit like. No, jokes aside: I don't hit like on every video, but you seem to be the most likeable tech-youtuber. I bet you are well appreciated for your calm and pleasant manner and are a good companion. Even when I am not interested in the content of one particular video, I still enjoy watching you. You seem to be reasonable and based. I like that, keep it up!
In all honesty, the chinese motherboards do not have very good quality control, they are not built do last. I've had 2 X79 Turbo PlexHD v1.03, one of them the socket is already giving up on me, it boots if I use a hairdryer on the back of the socket a few minutes in. The other one the USB3 doesn't work. VRM is also questionable, there is only 1 low side mosfet per phase, a 1650 can BSOD due to VRM thermals on a significant workload, measured above 100C on open bench using Aida FPU. Overall it's still a choice to be considered for those willing to take the risk or play with overseas. The 2620v3 seems like a better choice as it doesn't need a whole lotta of vrm and performa decently with all core turbo unlock bios. I would just avoid more expensive motherboards like F8 though, my experience has not been good with Chinese boards and I would not spend as much on a "high end" Chinese board, the VRM on them is pretty similar and they have the same issues.
But they are a cheap board, if it last just six months in a way you'd made your money worth while, actual x79 boards are stupidly priced, clearly not worth it, there are a few ok quality boards out there, mine gave me error code 19 which is as far as I can tell just unlucky, mainstream branded x79 boards would occasionally get this code and they just got a replacement, my board is just a display piece now
"I would just avoid more expensive motherboards like F8 though" Why? According to most reviews, the F8 is pretty good. The X79 Turbo PlexHD is a crap board even when compared to other bottom-of-the-barrel Chinese X79 motherboards, and a lot of reviews report similar problems with it (and its "Atermiter" rebrands), while most other chinese X79 motherboards from machinist, jingsha and huananzi get much better reviews. Kllisre and alzenit are not great, but still get better reviews than Atermiter/PlexHD.
@@untadagang6172 wanna hear other crazy price? nintendo switch on its launch. 400USD no games included. that was the average price on every videogame store.
@@jasonyantentorres3763 about switch is pretty same with my country, and I think it's because how popular is this now. I'm more concerned about the gpu price. 250 USD for 1650 is insane. In my country you can get gtx 1660 or even some gtx 1660 super with that money.
oz you're the man i cant thank you enough for your knowledge and tips you share you pushed me to build y first rig with just only $200 and i couldn't be happier. i hope to meet you someday, Ur climbing to my #1 you tuber spot
Hi Oz ☺️👍 from Oz/Auzzie/Australia 🇦🇺 It’s good to see a reviewer actually comment to say that people are from countries outside of the US and we don’t get the great deals like you get. I personally purchased one of these AliExpress combo’s with an Artermiter X79 motherboard, 16gb DDR3 Ram and Intel 1650V2 (6-core) and was able to overclock my cpu to 4ghz and use it as my retro pc for testing parts and 2nd pc. It’s wasa great deal and allows a bit of old school overclocking rather then simply applying XMP and a multiplier settings. Keep up the great work and excellent content. Cheers 🇦🇺🖐😁🥰
The timing of this video is perfect. I built an E5-2670 PC back in mid 2016 just for streaming, and it was awesome. Due to IRL circumstances, I had to get rid of the PC almost right after I got it. I’ve been l eye balling the 2670 again to build a video editing/gaming work station. I wanna start making UA-cam videos myself. My station will be half windows and the other half a Hackintosh because I like the workflow of MacOS so much more than windows. For me, the Xeon is a better choice for the price. I couldn’t have came to a reasonable conclusion without your help. Thanks for the video & your wholesome attitude while filming certainly gives off good & positive vibes. Keep it up, Oz.
@@rajakhan12346 if you want an old pc that is good you should look at 1156 xeons with 4c and 8t, just make sure the mobo has pcie 2.0. I got a x3440 and it is insanely good.
@@btmeant578 I am running it with a 2060super and waiting for a 3060ti. The 2060super works pretty good for 1080p high settings, but the 2060super is still a bottleneck. Ill probably make a benchmark once I get the 3060ti but it coupd be tomorrow, because not that many people are in que or it could take weeks/ months because they aren't making very much of them.
@Chand Master Actually some of them are getting silly cheap already. It really depends on what you want to do. If you just want an MMS then you can make an ultra low power system with brand new parts for $300USD. That said a Ryzen 1 series is more expensive than a Ryzen 5 3400G How does that work?
It's unlikely they will be the new "xeon" for one specific reason. Memory architecture. IE the Xeon is quad channel and the ECC memory kits are peanuts cheap. So a DDR3 ECC on a Xeon can perform like a DDR4 kit quite easily. EG you have 4 channels at 1866MHz which is the equivalent of 2 channels at just over 3700MHz. Except of course it's way way cheaper.
Hey Oz, I'm running the 420 motherboard, it's inside my Z420 workstation I picked up in February. One of the options you may have missed is that the Xeons can address quad channel memory. I have 32GB with 8GB in each channel. Also the Xeon E5-16xxV1/V2/V3 are unlocked. I use the Intel Extreme Utility to run my E5-1650V2 at 4.0GHZ. All of this appears to boost the performance of the Z420 quite significantly. Probably not as good as new Ryzen silicon but for that I've got to buy not only a new CPU but also new memory, PSU and motherboard. On the other hand my total system cost (not including the RX580) was $230 from a local recycler.
Great vid - one thing that I'd mention is that multi-processor Xeon systems are quite prevalent and can be had for little coin. Case in point, my gaming system is a Dell Precision T5600 - dual E5-2643 quad core Xeons with 64 GB of ECC RAM (capable of 128 GB). I've added an AMD Rage Fury Nano card along with a pair of PCIe SSDs (240 GB OCZ RevoDrive and a 400 GB Sun/Oracle Warp Drive Flash Accelerator that Windows 10 sees as an SSD). The Oracle drives are a steal - 400 GB PCIe SSD for about $30 shipped, and faster than the OCZ drive. The system was about $200, processor upgrades were about $20/each when I got them, 4 sticks of 16 GB were about $20/each as well. Add your own storage and video card... and away you go. Games at 1080p on a 55" screen like a champ - and Dell still has support for the T5600s available, easy to find and download drivers.
I built a beefy budget gaming server using a Lenovo Thinkstation S30 which uses that LGA2011 socket. Got it sort of barebones for around $110 off ebay. It had no drives, only 4GB RAM, and some $5 4c/4t Xeon E5 CPU. I changed the CPU out to the E5-2690 which is 8c/16t, put in 32GB of ECC DDR3 (also cheap stuff these days), a SSD for the OS and game servers, then a couple of 1TB HDDs in RAID1 for NAS storage. I use it for running a few Minecraft servers as well as a few other game servers for me and my friends to play on. It works amazing and I couldn't even come close to the specs building something new for the same price.
@OZTalksHW Glad to see ya. You look more grown every time UA-cam recommends a video of yours. I always forget your name and type "Ozzy Talk show". Needless to say, I get a bunch of rock star videos in results. Great video. Still rockin the 1400 on my B350 Asus Prime Plus. Brilliant 2:00 ad by the way.
Yo Oz! My advice if you're going Sandy Bridge or Ivy Bridge is the E5-2667 V1/V2 . V1 offers 6 cores at a higher base clock of 2.89 single core to 3.5, all core to 3.19 with the high TDP of 125W and the higher L3 cache (which can come in handy for some tasks). I'm on a 2667 V1 for my daily driver (Dell Precision T3600/Vega 64) and I cannot stop telling people to check it out; though I'd suggest the T5810 as it offers the 625/825W PSU by default and offers the dual socket X99 board rather than a single slot X79. I bought my 2667 V1 for about $30 on ebay a few months ago, they're listing at or around $25-40 depending on the seller. Would obvs aim to buy for as low as possible considering they aren't getting any younger. One last edit: If you do get a Sandy Bridge, get a set of Noctua 92mm fans and replace the stock CPU cooler fans in a push-pull config. Run them at high by cutting the PWM wire/set to high in your config. You'll see idle temps in the high 30*C (38-39C) and Prime95 small FFT workloads settle in at around 70*C, and they're barely audible. Thanks as always for the show, love your work!
Have an E5-2689 + 32GB ECC DDR3 1866 quad-channel Kit in the last almost 2 years, bought the CPU on AliExpress for 40US$ (with a -10US$ coupon, the RAM costs me around 50US$ the 32GB Kit), traded for my "new" Ryzen 1400 + 8GB DDR4 2133 dual-channel Kit, and, well, till now I have no concerns or regrets about that trade...
Another gem Oz. I'm still rocking my FX 8300 (OC'd to 4.4Ghz) and 7950. I don't game as much as I used to but it does well for those games that I do (CS:GO, Fortnite with my son who hands me regular beatings lol). My son's computer is by far the quickest and most modern as it was built in 2019. But if I were to attempt to build it now, I'd easily pay double. Even a 2600x where I live (Canada) is $100 more now. But that can you do? Unprecedented demand can do that. Anyway. Keep up the exceptional work. Your channel is both informative and comforting. Take care.
Just copped an HP zbook 17 g3 laptop workstation for 350! Replaced the screen to 1080p, has 24gb ram, 6700HQ, great thermals, Firepro graphics, I can hit aroud 150-180fps CSGO 1080p on mostly high/medium settings!!!! Im pretty happy with it
My phase 1 upgrade was from an old Phenom II X4 965 to an i7-3770, which is now rolling toward my phase 2 upgrade of an i7-4790 .... ok, maybe not as big a step the second time, as it's still only a 4C/8T, but for things that care about clock, it clocks faster than those Xeons. Real reason for where I ended up, was a collision of two plans..... 1. Get a nicer motherboard for my 3770 (with native SATA 3 and 5.1 audio) 2. Build a Haswell setup which I intended to sell - which then placed me in the situation of having a nice board for the 3770 and a board that didn't give me 5.1 - BTW I also wanted line in, so jack retasking wasn't an option for the Haswell. Asked around and someone on a forum found a decently priced board that ticked all my boxes
Hey Oz, I am a new viewer and am really coming to enjoy your channel and your personal style. I think you're every bit as "Zen" as AMD's processors. It makes me happy that anyone can be as chill as you appear to be, these days. I do have to take slight issue with your recommendation for the best CPU to use on X79, specifically for gaming. You went with the E5-1650, while I would heavily lean toward the E5-1660. I've owned both before, and the 1660 actually makes a significant difference in performance, due mostly to the extra 3MB of L3 cache, but also slightly higher clock speed. I don't have an X79 board anymore, but at the time I did and was trying a few different processors, the price difference between the 1650 and 1650 was on ten or fifteen bucks for a solid upgrade. I LOVED my Xeon E5-1660! Anyway, that's my two cents. Keep up with the enjoyable videos!
Although, clearly much deeper than the $15 end of the pond. I have had some luck scoring some really great Ryzen deals. Last year, it was a Threadripper 1920x for $199, which was an amazing deal. This year, although not "low-buck", a tremendously discounted Threadripper 2990wx ($850) and ASRock X399 TaiChi ($194 open box) was a good score.
Ooozzz, it feels like just yesterday i found a cool budget channel with like 3000 subs. So proud of you man, I knew you'd make it big. Still rocking that Q300L. Love you man.
I’m a system builder and I ordered a china x79 and x99 combo. For the x99 I found an ES version of the e5-2630 v4 for $50. Great processor for the price
Hi Oz! New subscriber here....It felt nice when you said that outside US the prices are way expensive...True story, especially in South America because taxes when we buy pc parts are INSANE. That why Xeon's became an alternative for us. I love your videos..keep going further.
On the availability/pricing thing for outside the USA, even if you find something from the US and can get it shipped either from the seller or re-shipping company, the customs fees can get high quickly.
Oz, your stuff is always hyper-interesting, well presented and well-explained. Thank you for this video, especially, because I had no idea there were a viable, tenable processor out there for $15! Amazing. Don't ever stop!
The summer before last. I drove about 2 hours away for a Craigslist ad. Was an HP Proliant ML350 G6. Is 2x X5650, for a total of 12c24t. Came with 32gb of what is likely lower speed RAM. Also had 2 of the possible 8 total spaces in the front drive cage populated. small capacity, 15k. 2.5" sas drives for a small RAID 1+0 logical volume. He even threw in 2008r2, all for 100 dollars. I kept it on a fairly strict power diet since, and used it for Plex Media Server. I've since switched to an m92p with an i5 3470 for this, so the Proliant became one of many servers sitting in a spare bedroom. Fast forward to about a month ago. A good friend of mine expressed interest in getting a desktop to play games on, despite the fact that he has never played pc games before. I started looking through these older servers, and was admittedly pretty shocked by the 2x x5650 benchmark score. It turns out to be very close to the score of a 9600k! Once I realized this, I started to send him fb marketplace ads to entry level graphics cards, to use for the time being. A couple of days ago, he followed up on a single fan MSI RX550 4gb, and he got it for 80 dollars. We're still in the process of getting games installed and such, but I tested it with Doom Eternal and Battlefield V with very smooth results. Ideally, more gpu horsepower will happen in the future, but I would like to see someone build something that would perform better, at the price point of 180$!
Great video. Helped a buddy upgrade an i7 machine he got for like $150 with a first gen 920 to a Xeon I want so it was a 5650 if memory serves. 6 core/12 thread monster for $15 on ebay. Dropped in a R9 280x that I had as a spare card after an upgrade and he's playing every game he wants to without breaking $300 Canadian to buy his machine.
My own main rig is a good example of another benefit for the x79/x99 Xeon platform. I got an off lease Dell T5610 from a local animation studio for 500. It packs dual E5-2660 V2s and 128GBs of ECC DDR 3 RAM and I can upgrade to V3 Xeons. Dual sockets and 128GBs are not even an option on consumer systems. Plus one thing to think about in terms of longevity is workstation and server grade stuff tends to be of a higher tier in terms of quality and specifications.
I BCLK overclocked my 2667 and I can get an all core turbo of 3.4 GHz. The 1650, 1660 and 1680 are the best performers (if you can actually get one) and if you can overclock, it can take on a lot of modern processers.
I dont really regret going x299. I have every unlocked major chipset in my closet and I just like to default to x299 as my daily. I have 18c u.2 support massive OC/cooling/loop support and the 48 pcie lanes. Sure threadripper has more. But i don't run extra GFX cards i run storage for my extra pcie. X299 is under appreciated. And you cN find cheap x299 boards and there's actually deals to be had for the lga2066 CPUs. Even more so if you get a x299 workstation mobo with xeon support.
I had a I7-950 processor over a X58 motherboard....i upgraded for 12€ the cpu to a Xeon 5650 and clocked at 3800Ghz. It's an old platform...but it performs really good! It can play Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 at full HD, medium/high settings without explode! GPU is Gtx970
I have a x79 computer and i'd say if you can get one try and go for the i7's on it because they turbo higher. Without overclocking the i7 will be faster but they're more expensive and will run at 130w. But you can get the i7 3930k for ~$60 on ebay and it'll run at 3.2ghz and turbo to 3.8ghz so if you aren't a enthusiast that will overclock the i7 may be a better buy. There are 2 other i7s on the lower end of the support list on my motherboard but they're 4 core not 6 core.
I had a 3820 CPU back in the day. I wold probably still be using it if the Intel brand x79 motherboard I paired it with hadn't died. That was a problem. When I needed a new compatible motherboard the no longer manufactured LGA 2011 motherboard alone cost more than a new CPU+Motherboard+RAM so I ended up with a new build sporting a new Intel I7 7700k and I've been with that ever since. I've considered giving Ryzen a go and just haven't had any need to do so other than curiosity. My wallet voted NO to curiosity and I respected that. The 7700k was a slight upgrade from the third gen 3820 extreme edition.
I just built my first pc in an og Xbox, with an i3 9100f, 16gb ddr4, 256gb nvme ssd+ 1tb hybrid hdd , and an evga gtx 1060 6gb for less than $600 including tax. Probably would’ve considerably cheaper if I used full sized components but it’s cool to see an old Xbox play gta 5 on my 85” 4K Samsung tv
Wowwww I’ve been watching you for years and JUST NOW NOTICED I wasn’t subscribed! Life’s crazy! And as a pretty frugal (and poor) guy your content has opened a lot of doors for pc builds and gaming.
You forgot one more pro for the X79 platform though and it is RAM prices. RAM for these things are extremely cheap and in the case of that HP motherboard, having 8 DIMMs means you can have massive amounts of VRAM for substantially cheaper! Even 4-DIMM systems support an upwards of minimum 64GB of RAM if not 128GB. DDR3 Registered ECC also most of the time comes with heatsinks so you can squeeze more SPD or even overclock out of it. I run my Micron 4GB PC-10600R sticks at 1866Mhz OC and it's all good surprisingly!
I love my 1650V2, runs at 3.8Ghz all day. Max I've had it up to is 4.2Ghz all core but it definitely got a bit toasty so now I leave the Max at 4Ghz. Still didn't thermal though. Using quad channel?
@@PaulLemars01 awesome! I believe this PlexHD x79 motherboard supports quad channel, so yes. 4x4gb at 1600mhz :) it's set up as my personal PC, music server and also hosts a small Minecraft server for my friends and I
well my main pc i built for myself about a year ago was a used ryzen 7 1700 with 32gb of ddr4 ram and a b450m mobo and a radeon 480 4g graphic card. it works well for my 2d and 3d autocad work as well as video and editing use every now and then plus some light gaming when I am bored. I also built a 2nd pc which i also extensively use (well it was my main pc prior to building the ryzen 7.. and the specs are, xeon e5-2620 on a chinese huanan x79 motherboard with 32gb of ddr3 ecc memory and a gigabyte r9 380x gfx card. Im happy to say both pc still serve me well.. lastly my youngest daughter is still usng an old xeon 6 core cpu on an x58 chinese motherboard with 24gb of ram with a gtx 970 which is very much enough for her homeschooling needs and more than enough for youtube and her favorite roblox and minecraft game..
I just LOVE your channel. I started getting into pc building recently and your soothing voice paired with concise points just makes you a pleasure to watch.
Yup, I built a VR computer for a friend and used the exact same CPU, they basically on par with a Ryzen 1200-1400 on single threaded and aggregate performance across the board.
I'm still rockin' a 1150 board with a 1230 V3 Xeon, 4C/8T. I am really still very happy with this paired with a RX 580 and 16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3. According to Cinebench I am getting 2/3 of the performance for way less than half the price of a 2600 Ryzen 5 at time of purchase, with the Xeon having lower memory latency. I will probably go for AMD once I retire this rig but for now it's still going very strong at 1080p.
recycling, great! one of my friends might actually use one of these when they build a new pc also that greenscreened bit at the beginning was the best thing I seen all day. 1:50 love how you were just sitting on Russel Crowe's face
I still use a x79 build for both gaming and business. I built two x58 for my brothers as well and it may take two to three years for me to move on to a newer socket platform build. Nice video Oz. More power to you~!
I needed a work from home pc to remote in. I had a x79 rampage IV extreme laying around, so I paired it with a E5-2689 off ebay for 50 bucks. I also bought a budget friendly gtx 1650 off Newegg for 120 on a sail. I had most the other parts already bc I frequently upgrade computers. This setup worked great for a work pc.
Love your videos, Oz! Still rocking my Core i7 4790 non-K with a GTX 1060 6GB and 16GB 1600. Got me a good deal on a 24" 60Hz Samsung monitor and an SSD. Not the best but very playable and most importantly, I'm satisfied.
i think when people get into streaming or youtube stuff they get concerned with waiting for having the best when in reality they should just be themselves!! I've always been an advocate for buying cheaper PC parts, and OZ you've been helping me out since I got my r51600 back in august 2017. appreciate you fam🙏🏾
I have a 2700x/2080ti but I'm constantly putting rigs together on tight budget for family and friends. I love the i5-3570/1650 combo or i7-3770/1660, but this is going in my bag of tricks for sure. Thanks for the tips and info. Your probably the best "average Joe pc" person on youtube.
Been running an E5-1650 for a number of years. Picked up an old HP workstation with it for $350 about 4 years ago. Runs quad channel memory, so even the memory keeps up.
Just done it and built a Machinist X79 the blackboard with orange and red ram slots £53 on E bay with E5 2640v1 £16 going from a 771 hacked Xeon X5460 and all for £75, its amazing 6 cores 12 threads and 16gb with a 1050ti, and I can still buy an E5 1680v2 later but for a budget system it's pretty amazing when you compare it to a new systems price, so even doing this there's loads of upgrade potential. was it worth it? hell yes.
Just wondering if you are interested in going extreme budget computing. I have an N3150 system which takes 60W "average for everything including screen drives the lot. Saves me a fortune in electricity. Here in the UK 1kWh of electricity averages about £0.15. My system used 1/3 kW less than most peoples systems so I save £0.05 per hour. That's about £0.75 a day as I have no TV or £225 per year. It works at 1080p 60Hz too for watching films etc.
Currently running a I7-3960x on x79 :) Could some of the issue be the motherboards ? If you get a decent overclock and have a motherboard that can take advantage of the quad channel memory that those chipsets and CPU's have you'd close the gap on Ryzen. The hardest is knowing which are the good motherboards from AliExpress. The price of decent motherboards from the time of x79 and x99 are still quite high on the used market, so trying to get a decent motherboard from AliExpress is key. I've been tempted to build setting similar, just doing research on which motherboard. PS. Thanks for the awesome content, keep up the great work !
Those xeons have quad channel memory support and many programs benefit from it. Also, the z420 motherboard have a temp sensor with the front panel connecter that affects the fan controls. You can buy a temp sensor separately but really, it's kinda cheaper to just buy a hp z420 case and mb. They are great with a Nvidia 2060 or 1060 and a solid gaming, streaming machine. You can find the z420 with a Xeon e5-1650 for under $200 pretty easy .
Despite the fact I already have a 2700x in my main rig, I was wanting to either buy or build a workstation for video editing to pump out videos faster. While my Ryzen PC would be faster for editing video, having a machine dedicated to rendering, so my main PC can still game and record, is valuable to me. And I think Oz showed me the platform for that PC.
Just bought a used PC parts starting from Asus X79 rampage IV, i7 3930K, 16GB RAM, RX 470, and PSU Seasonic XP1000 W platinum with a total of 300 dollars in my country. The CPU can still be overclocked to 4.6 GHz without problems.
I recommend the e5 1620, it has 4 cores and 8 threads and is also unlocked, mine is runing on a chinese mobo on 4ghz stable. An e5 1650 may be a better option but is a little bit more expensive and it doesn't do as much of a difference to be honest, I already did the tests and there was a difference of 1 to 5 fps. I would only recommend the 1650 if you want to do CPU intensive tasks. like gaming/streaming or video editing.
Yes, go with the e5 1650v2! It's 6 core 12 thread and has a pretty stable overclock at 4.1ghz. performs between a first gen and second gen Ryzen 5. Oh, and the can be had for as little as $50. I currently use this pc as my daily driver!
ive got a ryzen 7 3700x and i love it, but my brother and i like to play around with recycled parts as well. we currently are waiting on two of these complete kits to show up this week. hopefully.
Oz, the X79/X99 platform has Quad-Channel RAM, and it makes a noticeable difference in performance. ;) The E5-2689 is the best option for OEM boards that support only Sandy Bridge (mainly due to the Intel AMT controller). The Ali-boards support Ivy Bridge as well, so it's an interesting proposition.
I really love how amd gave us a cheap option that is built on zen 2 architecture plus it fits into am4 socket, which you can later use to upgrade to a more powerful processor/graphics card when you have more money.
I'm saving up for a AliExpress x79 Xeon ram bundle hopefully in 2nd quarter 2021. Bundle : x79 Atermiter mobo, CPU Xeon e5-2650 v2 (locked), 16 gigs of ddr31866 ecc registered memory. I just recently did a new/used build with a Ryzen 5 1600 & Asus b350 Prime Plus from AliExpress, bought PSU and Ram locally.
Wow that case is so early 2000's with the clock! Awesome Video! One thing to think about adding would be power consumption. some the the old workstation/server CPU's used a tone of power and in many countries electricity can be quite expensive.
If you are building budget PC you have to also care of runing costs. This old CPU 8x2.3GHz has TDP 95W also you have to buy biggest cooler and big power supply to use boost clock. Compare to afforable ryzen with stock coolers with TDP 65W Models 3100 1600AF 2700 will save your bills and will pay back compare to old HW and give you much better resale value. Budget PC should be about FPS/watt and total cost. If you only gaming go for 4core if you streaming go for 6 core. If you want chill CPU go for 8cores. And be patient to wait for good market oportunity.
I recomend the v3 platform (lga2011 v3) better performance and cpu's are just as cheap(2620v3 gives crazy good gaming performance for 20usd). Also you get stuff like usb3.0, nvme, and more upgrade options! Also some mobos even support v4 cpu's!
@@rajakhan12346 Yeah, there's a premium on the overclockable Xeons. But, it's better than paying what Ryzen 7 cpus were going for at the time. It's outperforming both the 2700x and 1800x I used to have.
Just bought an Asus P9X79 Pro to consolidate 2x machines for Hyper-V, it has 64GB. Also have an Asus P6T X58 and manage to run it with 48GB, again for virtualisation. Can't seem to get registered DDR3 to work in either, a shame as server memory is cheap on Ebay, and has very dense chips, like 16GB and 32GB dimms. DDR4 memory would be about 600GBP for 128GB, hence older motherboards and Xeons make a lot of sense for my testing work.

Thanks for the shoutout OZ!

But they are a cheap board, if it last just six months in a way you'd made your money worth while, actual x79 boards are stupidly priced, clearly not worth it, there are a few ok quality boards out there, mine gave me error code 19 which is as far as I can tell just unlucky, mainstream branded x79 boards would occasionally get this code and they just got a replacement, my board is just a display piece now
"I would just avoid more expensive motherboards like F8 though"
Why? According to most reviews, the F8 is pretty good. The X79 Turbo PlexHD is a crap board even when compared to other bottom-of-the-barrel Chinese X79 motherboards, and a lot of reviews report similar problems with it (and its "Atermiter" rebrands), while most other chinese X79 motherboards from machinist, jingsha and huananzi get much better reviews. Kllisre and alzenit are not great, but still get better reviews than Atermiter/PlexHD.
Yeah I'd probably just buy the "real" motherboards.

after 5 years or less, maybe these ryzen cpus will be the new xeons in terms of value
I think it's more than a maybe.
@Chand Master Actually some of them are getting silly cheap already. It really depends on what you want to do. If you just want an MMS then you can make an ultra low power system with brand new parts for $300USD. That said a Ryzen 1 series is more expensive than a Ryzen 5 3400G How does that work?
R5 2600 for 130 to 140 dollars 6 cores 12 threads and overclockable comes with a cooler too
It's unlikely they will be the new "xeon" for one specific reason.
Great shout out to all the other content creators. They are awesome and so are you.
1. Get a nicer motherboard for my 3770 (with native SATA 3 and 5.1 audio)
Just built a 600 system with a 8600k, 16gb ram, 500gb ssd, and a GTX 1070

There are 2 other i7s on the lower end of the support list on my motherboard but they're 4 core not 6 core.
when you got your award for your password i was dying inside😂💙 (great video)
I had a 3820 CPU back in the day. I wold probably still be using it if the Intel brand x79 motherboard I paired it with hadn't died. That was a problem. When I needed a new compatible motherboard the no longer manufactured LGA 2011 motherboard alone cost more than a new CPU+Motherboard+RAM so I ended up with a new build sporting a new Intel I7 7700k and I've been with that ever since. I've considered giving Ryzen a go and just haven't had any need to do so other than curiosity. My wallet voted NO to curiosity and I respected that. The 7700k was a slight upgrade from the third gen 3820 extreme edition.
i've been a xeon fan for years. i am running a macpro tower with 2 3.0 xeons and an d a precision 5810 with a a 3.50 xeon
this guy has to be the most genuine tech reviewer ive seen
E5 1650v2 gang. These Chinese x79 mobos, ECC memory, and used Xeon combos are amazing
I started getting into pc building recently and your soothing voice paired with concise points just makes you a pleasure to watch.
man your videos are sooo friggen zen. its so calming watching. keep up the amazing work
Yup, I built a VR computer for a friend and used the exact same CPU, they basically on par with a Ryzen 1200-1400 on single threaded and aggregate performance across the board.
Oz you the man! I’ve always wanted to do this through AliExpress while we are all staying at home mostly! Thanks for this video!
recycling, great! one of my friends might actually use one of these when they build a new pc
also that greenscreened bit at the beginning was the best thing I seen all day. 1:50 love how you were just sitting on Russel Crowe's face
I still use a x79 build for both gaming and business. I built two x58 for my brothers as well and it may take two to three years for me to move on to a newer socket platform build. Nice video Oz. More power to you~!
Still using the x79?
Just done it and built a Machinist X79 the blackboard with orange and red ram slots £53 on E bay with E5 2640v1 £16 going from a 771 hacked Xeon X5460 and all for £75, its amazing 6 cores 12 threads and 16gb with a 1050ti, and I can still buy an E5 1680v2 later but for a budget system it's pretty amazing when you compare it to a new systems price, so even doing this there's loads of upgrade potential. was it worth it? hell yes.
Go for the boards with 4 x ram slots there's no reason to get the 2 x slot version.
The ryzen 3100 is at msrp in the UK and are very much available. I picked one up the other day for £98 for my new build!
Currently running a I7-3960x on x79 :)
Could some of the issue be the motherboards ?
Just to confirm. This is the real *Oz* because he uses _shadow clones_ in this video.
Fun sponsor spot. Good job Oz. Great job on the video as normal Oz.
Thank you so much for the video Ozzy! Definitely gonna use this information to build a rig for my friend going through basic training right now!!
dude i dig your well reasoned calm presentation, and big picture, aware of the variables kind of mindset. SUBSCRIBED. lookin for the bell icon.
ive got a ryzen 7 3700x and i love it, but my brother and i like to play around with recycled parts as well. we currently are waiting on two of these complete kits to show up this week. hopefully.
Tech Yes would be proud 👍🏻 Xeons are a great choice
Oz, the X79/X99 platform has Quad-Channel RAM, and it makes a noticeable difference in performance. ;) The E5-2689 is the best option for OEM boards that support only Sandy Bridge (mainly due to the Intel AMT controller). The Ali-boards support Ivy Bridge as well, so it's an interesting proposition.
great content, however your audio and video don't sync, I see a slight delay
Where buy?
I'm actually running a rig with a Xeon 1680 v2 overclocked to 4.5ghz. $150 for roughly Ryzen 2700x performance ain't bad.
150 for the Xeon CPU Alone ???
@@rajakhan12346 Yeah, there's a premium on the overclockable Xeons. But, it's better than paying what Ryzen 7 cpus were going for at the time. It's outperforming both the 2700x and 1800x I used to have.
@@kill-techproductions434 2700x is 150 now.
@@rajakhan12346 Wasn't last time I checked but, cool.
@@kill-techproductions434 yes there are , nearly new or used recently eBay .
Your vids are great , informative but not too much. It hits the sweet spot combined with your cool DJ voice. My new favorite youtube spot, thank you.
Good on you for giving Tech YES some Lovin'.
Ok, good points:
1) I like your gentle style and you don't talk ridiculously fast.
2) Your sponsored ad was integrated well into your video with an entertaining bit of video, instead of feeling like an embarrassing sell-out
3) interesting content
Bad point: The sound was out of sync
Just came across this channel, instant sub! Such a comfy and wholesome atmosphere.
