I’ve had the RS175’s for a few years now and they are fantastic. (I watched the video wearing them) :) It takes over 10 hours to run the battery flat even after years of daily use. Note: these can be used with other devices. All you need is a 3.5mm male to male cable. One in the headphone jack of your phone etc and the other end in the 3.5mm input in the transmit base.
Hi Damian, I have a question that I don't know if it will work or not, if you have any experience with it please let me know. So since I already have a speaker connect to my PC through 3.5mm port and I end up with no 3.5mm port left, can I connect the analog 3.5mm in from the base station to the speaker 3.5mm port to use it? thanks
Hey, Barraccuda. I'm close to buying the Sennheiser RS-175. I'm concerned about the volume buttons. My old RS-120s have the rotary volume wheel control so I can fine tune the volume level. The volume buttons on the RS-175s mean there are "preset" levels of volume. Have you had any issues with this? Is each volume increment you get from raising or lowering the sound with a button push small enough so you can effectively get the volume you desire? Any additional concerns I should be aware of before purchasing? Going to use these for watching TV in the evening. Thanks!
One of the best headphones in the market. I truly enjoyed watching Tv with these headphones. The first charge takes 16 hours, after that it will not take much time to recharge.
I'm a bit late to this party! Very good video BTW. I came to this video while searching for replacement ear pads [I accidentally broke one of the originals]. Seeing as these cans are still available from Sennheiser and other retailers - I'll continue. In a nutshell the review is correct in stating these are for TV but they are not for TV only. The sound is excellent when gaming, watching day to day TV or, especially, movies. For music playback these headphones are exceptional in their price range and beyond. So the base station is big - you can hide it! The base station can be placed behind the tv if room permits or away from the TV with a long enough audio lead. For a time I had my base station in a cupboard beside the TV and it worked fine. I live in a two story house with thick brick walls and can walk around the house while using these headphones with no audio degradation and have only found one 'dead area'. I also have no problems listening with these headphones while at the bottom of my 70 feet long garden. The headphones are big too. This is not a negative as the headphones are not overly heavy and are very comfortable to wear. Outside sound is very effectively silenced by the earpads too. I have viewed whole boxsets back to back with these headphones on and no issues. To be fair I do take food and toilet breaks when watching box sets but can comfortably watch 3 or four episodes without a break and with no discomfort from theses headphones. As for connectivity there is no bluetooth true. Using bluetooth for watching TV is a massive no no though as even the best and latest versions of bluetooth used for TV viewing lead to problems most of which are sync issues - lips and other movement do not sync well with sound over bluetooth. This can be rectified with a dedicated bluetooth adapter but these can be expensive. The audio connexion types employed by the base unit for these headphones are excellent. Additionaly - two sets of headphones can be used with one base station. You can use these headphones with other audio devices. I have had the base station connected to my home entertainment receiver and thus used the headphones for anything connect to that. The AV receiver allowed me to listen to radio, tape, vinyl, CD, DVD / Bluray streamed music and with my phone connected by NFC or bluetooth all audio on the phone. I got a little carried away there! TLDR; In late 2021 these headphones and base units are still available and are exceptional in their price range and beyond. Highly recommended.
I think it's a bonus that it uses AA batteries. I won't let the charging time be much of an issue. I'd just keep a few spares already charged up and ready to go. I find it so convenient.
Great review, but it should be noted that you can plug the 3.5mm jack into most compatible devices and it will work. For example, plugging the optical cable into the TV, and the 3.5mm into a computer or even a mobile device. You can simply switch on the back on the base station and enjoy.
Good review. While it is correct that the headphones will work only with the Sennheiser transmitter, you can plug any device with an Audio Out 3.5mm port by attaching the supplied audio cable into the Sennheiser. Other device can be a Stereo, Smartphone etc. Then the Sennheiser will send the device audio to the earphones. Also, the 18 hours or so recharge time is not of concern. Use the earphones for a few hours then put the earphones back on the transmitter. When you are ready for your next viewing, the phones will be ready to go. I have never had to wait for recharging. By the way, if the Optical Audio cable works on one of your devices, you connect a second device to the transmitter and leave it connected if you want, then just move the transmitter switch to choose which to listen to. Very handy.
Nice review. I just bought these and was amazed how long it has been on charge. I did have to try & see if it works or if it was stuck on charge. Thankfully it worked perfectly and they are stellar. I have a 97 OLED LG TV and it didn't work with the optical. I went into the TV general settings and found I needed to scroll lower to find the option for optical, and more, it was actually a sub selection in that I had to select the correct line and then there was an additional tab viewed to select. That done and the audio works perfectly with the optical. I have my analog connected to my guitar amplifier's headphone out and now stitch between my guitar or TV. I have my computer attached to the TV optical with an optical splitter as well so I can now listen to the computer/TV and Guitar amp with these headphones. It would be just as easy to get Y connectors for analog and run the computer headphone out into the guitar headphone out and then another Y splitter to connect those to to the TV out and that pulug into the Sennheusser and this would work fine. The only question we have to ask is, is the digital to audio converter better in the TV or in the headphones? What that means is, if you want the signal to be converted by the headphones, you need to run from optical in to the headphones. This is usually better. So in my case, I do have the optical from the computer and the TV used. No optical for the amplifier so I use analog with that and manually switch to that when I use the headsets for that. Easy Peasey. And again, thanks for your great review.
I bought the inferior model two times back in the day and even with a normal care the crappy integrated jack cable broke, making hearing very complicated everytime. Seeing that this one has separate cable so that you can replace them when broken makes me consider buying this one considering that the sound itself is very much ok and better than BT I think

Good afternoon Erin, I have a tv without a traditional headphone jack. I do have a optical out port. The delay between the sound I hear via the headphones and the picture are out of sync. My RS 175 picks up the audio only from a youtube video playing on my Samsung Smart TV. It does not pick up the audio when I play a movie on Amazon Prime. This seems silly because audio is audio irrespective of what is playing on the TV. Any thoughts? I myself am leaning towards the Sony’s even though they are older being 2015 as opposed to JVC being 2021 as Sony were the company that developed this technology in the first place and there is little to no bad reviews out there on the Sony model, one problem being there is little availability of them out there. Anyway hope that helps as I spent so much time researching and if it helps you with a decision then my hard work is worth it.
Erin, your presentation made this presentation enjoyable and informative to watch with honest and factual information. I only purchase new Sennheiser headphones due to their quality products, which I have 3 different models of ( 2 x Momentum's & the RS-175) plus 3 new Sony TV's as I had 2 previous new LG TV's which both had major defects, and when i think of LG, the phrase "Lemon Goods" always enters my thoughts.
Unfortunately, the headphones did not meet expectations, and I was disappointed due to the weak sound and lack of clarity, despite their high price, so I will return them.
Erin simply love your videos... all of them... Though I have a set of blue tooth Headphones I got for Christmas and They work with just about everything That been manufactured til date ... They are Avantree Bluetooth with A plug into tv if not Bluetooth (Much like mine was) but these Babies charged up in 3 hours max And I can listen to tv without bothering Others four at least 20 hours so far... Of course audio isn't going to match The ones you just displayed but for Me they are very good and affordable If I'm not wrong Amazon sells them for I believe in range of $125 and I'm blown away!!! Have a fantastic day Erin and your crew And keep on keeping on with great videos !!! Never good bye. Too final. Always later !!!

Thanks for the kind words and sorry to hear you had such trouble with your LG TVs.
Oh well I'll just add a blue tooth module to this headset. It's really comfortable.
Great investment
Do you have a pair of these ones?
Why is there a Bass Boost and Surround button on both the transmitter and the head phones?
Bedankt
THANK you so much for your support of the channel.
Unfortunately, the headphones did not meet expectations, and I was disappointed due to the weak sound and lack of clarity, despite their high price, so I will return them.
using cables will always be better tho
Thanks!

Erin simply love your videos... all of them...
Though I have a set of blue tooth
Headphones I got for Christmas and
They work with just about everything
That been manufactured til date ...
They are Avantree Bluetooth with
A plug into tv if not Bluetooth
(Much like mine was) but these
Babies charged up in 3 hours max
And I can listen to tv without bothering
Others four at least 20 hours so far...
Of course audio isn't going to match
The ones you just displayed but for
Me they are very good and affordable
If I'm not wrong Amazon sells them for
I believe in range of $125 and I'm blown away!!!
Have a fantastic day Erin and your crew
And keep on keeping on with great videos !!!
Never good bye. Too final. Always later !!!
Thanks so much John. Great added info!
Great review. It's a shame that it's so expense for a product that you can only use with your TV. I am sure there are cheaper alternatives with similar performance out there. Thanks again for the detailed review. Keep them coming.
Thank you Paul!
Well, i use these headphones for gaming, and i have never had better headphones, no complaints.
Nice!
WOW WERI NICE U SPEECH I LOVE YOU
I wonder what would happen if there's a fire in the kitchen while watching the TV with these headphones :-)
Hopefully you’d still be able to smell the smoke?! 😬🧐
