No, you're using criminally underrated (it's very overused just to spark Likes) - anyway, Hazard was #1 in 14 countries. Hardly underrated, criminally or otherwise.
I was in South America 6 years ago and thought about virgins and love potions while fighting zombies and murderers and I came home and told my mom about you
In 2007, I got introduced to Hazard by a friend. Eleven years later it still sits in top of my playlist. Always intrigued by the lyrics and today I finally found it's story. Thank you for this upload and hat tip to Mrs. Marx.
You might know her well. She is better known as Cynthia Rhodes, an actress who played Penny in Dirty Dancing, the dancer who gets an abortion paid for by Baby. She was in many of the great dance movies of the 80's. She also sang in the group Animotion.

I love this song and video. I listen over and over again. I still listens to it today. I love Richard Marx, He always sing with lot of emotions and he makes the song comes alive. Love it.
I dont listen to the radio normally (I have my own selection of music on my phone and bluetooth it to whatever device is around if I want to listen to music). But, I was helping my Brother move house yesterday and he had the radio on in the removal truck. Most or the music on the radio was just total rubbish, but it was on low enough that I could ignore it. As we were pulling up and getting out I caught the chorus of this song and kinda remembered it, mainly remembering that I liked it from the 80's or 90's (most of the stuff I like is from the 80's or latest the 90's. It kept me up most of last night with me trying to remember it. All I remembered was the general tune and "down to the river" and that's all. A little searching today and I bumped into this. Thank you for posting! It's going to go on my playlist shortly. Loved this song in it's day, it resonated with me as a loaner and a bit of an outsider in my youth. Love the fact that I've now re-discovered it.
I don't have anything personally against Richard marx, and I'm not here to say he's wrong... But I'm not the only one that wants to see this made it to a major motion picture!!!
I hate to tell you but if you aren't aware, which you should've been as it's been quite a while...At the time this was released he was still with Cynthia Rhodes who he's talking about in this clip, but he's now married to Daisy Fuentes...
In my country where English is a second language during 1990's some like this song for its music and for its lyrics.. and I love this song for its story telling.. ❤❤❤ 😍🥰
I am a literary writer... and I understand Richard perfectly, when he mentions how excited he was to write it, and then he discards it because he thinks it's garbage. I am very self-critical, and I usually have a thousand ideas to write stories that at one moment seem interesting to develop, but then the days go by, I read what I wrote or revise the idea, and it seems ridiculous.
Was putting together a list in my head of songs I want to cover, and Hazard came to mind. I didn't even write it down. It just stayed in my head. Today I was listening to a FINNISH radio station (I'm in America), and Hazard comes on. I sat back and said WHOA... ! Anyway, it's staying on the list
Such an amazing song, written by A Very nice man(I was so lucky to serve him and his second wife at my restaurant,my middle aged guy friends were so jealous, more cause I met Daisy Fuentes lol)
I was a huge fan of this song even at 11 years old. ❤ Anybody see the episode of Evil Lives Here where the serial killer would sing this in the car with his daughter? Holy hell.
This is THE song that is the most memorable of my young life. It horrified me and I think shaped how I feel about murders you see in media, that inner pinch, it's a terrifying fascination. And now when I hear names like Nebraska (love the names of US towns) there's this little thing that happens inside, that's always there, and I'm sure this song is behind that. From comments I've read about this song, I believe a lot of people were affected in a similar way, in some form or other. A great artist for sure.
Funny he thought "absolutely no one would pay attention" to it. This song is my first musical memory, at age 4, hearing it in the backseat of my parents' car, when a chunk of the lyrics caught my attention because they felt weird and emotionally warped.
There's a slightly different cut of the video. It features some new scenes and dialogue, but it's largely the same. Here you go; ua-cam.com/video/my6VgnO_pRI/v-deo.html
Never heard of this song until I watched Peter Kay's Car Share. After watching that I actually became intrigued. Kayleigh's crying her eyes out and John's convinced the lad was a serial killer who stuffed Mary in a wheelie bin, then he starts crying and they're both bawling their eyes out on their way to work... Since then I've found out it's just fiction! So we'll never know if the lad actually killed Mary or not!!! I reckon it was the copper.....😁
Instead of Nebraska...I think this should have been written about Hazard Ky !!...( or maybe it was )....the part about the river running through it certainly holds true !!....Regardless. ...its one of his greatest songs !!
Não, ele não diz quem matou a garota. Apenas conta como começou a escrever a letra da música e diz que é o narrador e talvez seja esse cara estranho que mora em Nebraska e tem haver com o desaparecimento da garota.

He was probably writing about subconscious memories from another lifetime. Lived the experiences in some way. Obviously he doesn't realize this. Authors do this too. Great stories. There's more to us then meets the eye.
Thank goodness for his wife then and him wanting to prove her wrong! 🤣 Now, who has seen the official video recently? Who do you think killed Mary? I have a theory on this one. Everyone assumes that Richard killed her, like the cop did, purely because she had his scarf around her neck. I think there is more evil to it than that though. The whole town was against Richard since he moved there when he was 7... .Mary had been playing with his scarf, and put it on but at some.point it was stuck on a tree. Now...the cop had seen Richard and Mary together and wasnt too happy about it...richard says he left her by the river, safe and sound...and we see the cop do a slow drive by, watchijg her on her own after Richard left...sl, what if he went to "talk some sebse into her" and tell her to stop seeing richard...but she refuses to do so...how much would this anger the cop who wanted him gone? What if he found that scarf on the way down to talk to her and when she told him no, he decided to use it to strangle her andndump the vody in the river to blame richard and get rid of him for good? Her body was found immediately....and they were after Richard really quick..so something doesnt quite add up. I'm sure that cop did it to get rid of Richard for good...send him onnhis ways whether runming or to prison!
I always thought the Sheriff killed Mary. Don't know why so many people thought it was Marx. I don't think Marx was Mary's bf either. I believe they were friends and he had a huge crush on her. He actually says as much at the police station while being interrogated. I think the sheriff was obsessed with Mary. When Marx sees Mary hooking up with the random guy in the car he runs away hurt leaving his scarf caught on the bush. Also in that scene you see the sheriff pull up as Marx is running off. So, I say the sheriff killed Mary, don't know what happened to the guy in the car with her, and tried to frame Marx for it since the town was against him anyway. So it'd be easy. 😊 This damn quarentine has me analyzing 80's music videos for God's sake! 🤦😂😂 I need to get outta the house. Lol
A theory I kinda thought was maybe Mary killed herself. I'd kind of thought this when id seen the scarf flowing from the tree. Maybe after she cheated on marx she felt guilt for what she'd done. She also could have been depressed she was stuck in a town she wanted out of.
I watched this video 3 times today. There is a part where 7 year old Marx catches his mom with another man after the dad leaves. It seems he goes on to burn the house down with the mom and lover inside. This would explain why the town views him in a certain way. Perhaps the Sherriff is not obsessed with Mary but rather concerned for her well-being as Marx may be a dangerous person. Mark clearly has a crush on Mary, she sees him as a person, as a human being and treats him decently. He goes on to see Mary in the car with this unknown person, exactly how he caught his mother with her lover when he was 7 and torched the House. Perhaps this brings up his anger all over again. I don't know. I just never noticed this before.
The Cop did it . He was obsessed with Mary ..and was jealous that Marx had her.. He followed them in the night Mary was left safe and sound by the river. He raped and then killed her and later he put the blame in Marx

Criminally underrated song .. epic story behind the song.. let's be honest it's pure genius to come up with something like this
