  • Sorry for the drama, but UA-cam have automated a channel warning against me for no real reason. And I'm mad about it.
Also, I don't care how bad my green screen and set up is - I like it like that, so nerr.

Just anything that doesn't have to dance around copyright.

there has been some case surrounding people tagging videos with children in them for... horrible reasons. A less grim explanation to why a playlist creator could be punished that I can think of is maybe if someone makes playlists of copyrighted material like movies uploaded to UA-cam. Even if they delete the videos and ban the channels uploading the movies, someone might create a public playlist where they automatically add illegal reuploads so instead of searching for them, you can just check the master playlist.
Obviously this isn't in any way related to any of these cases, so my only guess is that it must have been a classic UA-cam automated moderation tools random fuck up that absolutely nobody knows why happened and won't admit to it being wrong because our AI overlords are always correct 🙏praise be the Great Algorithm.

It's crazy that a channel could receive a strike for content they haven't made, didn't promote, and possibly didn't even watch.
It seems like a content creator should be better off having a second independant channel for scouting and watching YT and keep their content channel strictly as a publishing tool to protect their content.

From what others have said about their interactions with UA-cam, it sounds like there is no real oversight and possibly no meaningful accountability for the people who enforce policy. Worse, it feels that sometimes they just rubberstamp previous judgements when contested, unless it blows up into a bigger public PR issue. Sasha from Casually Comics went into how Google is structured, and how others weren't even allowed to *talk to* the group. (Her own intermediary was only allowed to talk to a employee in a different department, who in turn passed messages to the enforcement team.)

The impression I get is that Google assumes all problems, even human problems, have technical solutions that can be automated. The issue with this is that these solutions work when they are a proof of concept and a human can jump in to correct course when it goes wrong. But as soon as they scale up, it becomes unmanageable and unmaintainable.

    • @masterzoroark6664

    • @reverse_engineered
      @reverse_engineered 3 місяці тому

@@n00dl3 This is there way of saving money. A proper team that could police and handle issues on UA-cam would be huge. Not impractical, mind you, but costly. Google and many other large platforms would rather not have to pay money to manage their business, so instead they write algorithms. And while that's not unreasonable as a first-pass filter, anything flagged the by algorithm still needs to be reviewed by a human to ensure it makes sense. That's where so many companies cut too many corners and just don't bother.
I've had similar issues with Etsy. Let's say someone says they didn't receive their item. I have tracking info showing they did, but it doesn't matter; seconds after the complaint is filed, Etsy has already "reviewed it" and awarded a refund to the buyer. I've had similar issues where customers have received their item, but thought they were getting something different because they literally selected the wrong item - which they openly admitted - and Etsy just gave them their money back immediately - taking it out of my account!
Etsy also handles DMCA and similar notices much like UA-cam does: guilty until proven innocent. But Etsy takes it one step further. You don't get to appeal or otherwise prove your innocence - the only way to get it overturned is to have the complainant *file a retraction*. Yeah, right, like some automated copyright bot is going to listen to me, realize the error of their ways, and file a retraction. It doesn't happen. I've even had notices where the link pointing to my violating content was clearly a placeholder; one said "See attached document" where a URL should have been - a document that I couldn't possibly have received because they aren't included in notices.
The entire system of companies using automation without oversight is the real problem with AI. When AI is used to augment human abilities, it can be a wonderful force multiplier. When it's used to entirely replace human abilities, it's an unaccountable liability that randomly punishes people without even knowing why.
UA-cam is broken, and so is much of the rest of the Internet, and even the business we deal with daily in the physical world.

I have a bank appointment next week. By UA-cam's logic if the bank gets robbed tonight I should be charged as an accomplice because I plan to see where the crime happened at some point in the future.
There are two parties responsible for the content on UA-cam; The uploader and UA-cam.
They're allowed to enforced whatever restrictions they want for what you are allowed to post. In theory that's not even a big deal... provided their policies make sense. That's their right as owning and operating the platform.
Holding people responsible for content they have literally nothing to do with however? That's seriously passing the buck. And I suspect could be grounds for a class action lawsuit... Except they have enough money to be legally untouchable. Because dystopia.

I managed to use browser devtools to force open the Send Feedback tool on that page and complained about how difficult it would be to go through and find all that music again. A while later after I had rebuilt the playlist, I got an email saying my playlist appeal form submission had been reviewed and accepted, even though I never submitted any form nor knew how to do so, and suddenly my old playlist was back. I can only imagine that someone at UA-cam saw my feedback and knew more than me on what to do and was kind enough to actually submit some secret form for me.

To be specific, a USER controlled rating system. UA-cam already has an automated one where it classifies videos as "UA-cam Kids". This is pretty annoying because that algorithm is also retroactive and applies to videos uploaded a decade ago, and when a video is marked as "For Kids", the comment section is disabled. It tends to affect a lot of cartoons/animations, even if the content isn't actually suitable for kids (Such as a video showing Sonic bleed a little).
But then creators get the last laugh by re-uploading with changes to force the algorithm to deem it "Not suitable for kids". I've seen stuff like a bunch of F-Bombs at the end of the video, or an intro showing a cute Chao's head exploding.

It's probably also because they literally don't know. The algorithm flagged it, and the algorithm is the one true source of knowledge. The algorithm is sacred - it's what makes them money. So no, you can't know anything about the algorithm, and nobody outside of a very small group that maintains the algorithm is allowed to know anything about it. All anyone else can say is, "If you got flagged, it must be because you violated one of the guidelines." It's the perfect circular logic that makes all of these gigantic AI models so dangerous - nobody knows how they work well enough to explain any given decision they make, but they rely on them so much, that they have to assume its decisions are good. The emperor has no clothes.

I saw your community post a few weeks ago and did a test for a playlist with the video you got striked for. So far I haven’t had any results. I even made the playlist public.
It makes it even harder to understand the violation when even the faintest possible answer is inconsistent. I know I’m not nearly as big as you in subscribers, but if that was a factor, it does raise some suspicion about UA-cams’ motives…
Then again, that would be going a little too far too quick, and the agent could be wrong and maybe it’s some combination of videos in your favourites playlist, not just that Mario one. Still, what a mess of dumb algorithmic rules and regulation.

I’ve had to deal with problems like this myself, I have a channel that’s just a few years younger than yours. I found out through a bit of shenanigans with UA-cam (because nothing can ever be simple) the first thing I found out was that due to the age of my account, many of the things applied to it from UA-cam have run into problems with each other.
For example, remember when they tried to force Google+ (not a subscription service) on everyone who had a UA-cam account? Yeah, if you by chance did what they were forcing you to do back then, you’re gonna run into some problems now.
Also sometime within the past couple years they have been trying to get users to verify/authenticate their account. IE provide proof that you are who you say you are (show your ID) now if you don’t do that, or if you didn’t even know it was a thing they wanted you to do, guess what you’ll run into some problems. As a matter of fact they restrict certain things from being accessed on your account, there are quite a few restrictions.
Oh and if you happened to have an old “favorites” playlist that was created back in the day, that too is a problem. As a matter of fact the playlist you showed was over the video limit for a playlist, currently the video limit for playlists is 5,000 I don’t know if it changes if you have more subscribers or not, but that’s the limit I’ve run into. So that could also be your problem, but I don’t see how that violates any rules as nebulous as they are.
UA-cam is beyond broken, and Google isn’t keen on fixing it, as a matter of fact they have just continued to break it further with every major update.
I hope your issue gets resolved, and yeah that “school lesson” thing they give you is pointless, teaches you absolutely nothing. Strikes are a pain, and what’s worse is when the appeal process refuses to have any effect. Good luck man, and Happy Easter!

Technically speaking for UA-cam competitors, there is Nico Nico, but that is mostly Japanese only, and I don't know how well that work for creators. But this is pathetic to a next level, UA-cam got tired of annoying people for the videos they make, and now they are starting to annoy people for the videos they watch? Whoever is running that company should get an award for stupidity.

This is not the first time I've heard of someone being hit by this 'things in your favourites playlist cause a community guidelines strike' bs. Particularly bs considering the guidelines having changed a lot over the past 15 years. "Well this video was fine but now that it isn't we're going to strike everyone who ever favourited it" - I think it might have been that same Super Mayro 64 'child safety policy' that was hinted to be the thing causing it.
(Also love the "we aren't allowed to tell you what thing you did that violates our policies (:" thing. A* for transparency for the people making you money there, UA-cam, no notes. That doesn't just impact this, that seems to be a _general_ thing of UA-cam's)
(I stopped using the watch later playlist when I realized I just kept things on there for eternity and didn't watch them. Guess I should delete everything on it)

It reminds me of the South Park guys. When they made movies independently, the MPAA would tell them they need to edit out offensive bits, but wouldn't tell them which bits they needed to edit, because it's "against their policy." Then later when they made movies in the Hollywood system, they found out the MPAA very much does haggle specifics with major studios (you can have two uses of penis if you edit out %#£), and just jerks around little guys because they can.

UA-cam is simply a disaster. This is what happens with monopolies - if you have no competition, you have no reason to try to win over your customers. Instead, the optimal play is to spend the minimum possible and provide the minimum level of satisfaction possible so that you can maintain your revenue stream while reducing your expenses.
It's all income over expenses. Every month there's a new ad being shoved somewhere: pre-roll ads, mid-roll ads, "suggested content" thrown in the middle of your feed, and so much more. At the same time, every amount of customer service and quality control is cut to reduce expenses. The algorithm manages everything; there are no longer any people who can second-guess it and correct it when it clearly makes a mistake. Even their policy of "we can't tell you what you did wrong" comes down to them literally not knowing because the algorithm said so and they have no idea how it makes its decisions. The fact that they even have agents is surprising to me (try contacting anybody at Etsy), but they seem to be little more than PR people, because inevitably the most they can do is say they will dig into it, only to talk to the same clueless people and get the same unhelpful response.

You haven't linked to any store page for the game, so I'm assuming you don't want to share it yet, or don't have set up anything yet, but at least from what I read about indie gamedev, the Steam Wishlist is very important for financial success, as about 10% of people who Wishlist will on average buy the game. • @G-F-D
    @G-F-D 3 місяці тому +1

seems to me that the ways UA-cam is architected has led to some apparently‐reasonable conclusions which are totally unreasonable in combination:
    1) there is no distinction between UA-cam accounts and UA-cam channels; they are the same thing. that way, everyone can become a “content creator”! it’s like letting every video game console also be a devkit, which doesn’t unreasonable on its face, but…
    2) there is (almost) no distinction between lists of videos maintained for personal account use and lists of videos maintained as part of a channel; they are all considered “content”. private playlists arguably can’t be distinct here because they could be made public later to be exposed as part of a channel’s “content”, and indeed this happens regularly as channels will often keep playlists private until they’re done building them. the only distinction is the apparent one mentioned here, which is “Liked videos” being exempt from content policies. (i thought this might be deducible by end‐users because the “Liked videos” playlist does not show up in UA-cam Studio, but the “Watch Later” playlist is the same way and yet Dan’s told it does NOT have that exemption!) but UA-cam got rid of the “Favourites” button and turned every channel’s existing favourited videos into a playlist subject to their content policies, so who’s to say they won’t do the same for “Liked videos” in the future? whoever within UA-cam did that data migration might not even have been aware of this opaque consequence!
simply making all playlists exempt from content policies probably wouldn’t be a good option, otherwise there are almost certainly loopholes that bad actors could abuse here. one solution could be to have a separate feature/section for “bookmarks” or “personal playlists” which can never be changed from private to public. this would be cumbersome to say the least; it would not be obvious to most users that the reason they can’t share their curated “mix tape” bookmark list with their friends is because that would make it “content” subject to UA-cam’s content policies. however, maintaining the system as it is currently exists also obviously not tenable.
speaking of generative statistical models, how certain can we be that you were talking to actual human agents and not just chatbots giving you incorrect information? those are becoming more prevalent! for examples prevalent in the media, Air Canada was forced by a court to honour a refund policy its chatbot invented, and NYC notably has a chatbot that lies to people about city laws and regulations.
