@Brian Obviously, he isn't dead inside since this song is in existence in the first place. We all (try to) find ways to cope with the traumas of life. This is his way.
He said he regretted writing this song, putting all his feelings out there and playing it live while assholes in the audience shouted stupid things and didn’t shut up.
100% with you, I'm very seldomly moved by music but this song (these songs) always has me struck when I listen to the lyrics and the absolutely artisan musicianship by all members of tool. Crazy.
@@brandondressen6428He is huge into Thelema and Crowley. You don't fuck around with that shit without being raised into it and his father was a Freemason
This song as well as Wings For Marie are hard as fuck songs and Keenan did say that having one person off time would destroy the whole song and he doesn't want to have to breakdown on stage as the song is just too personal. I'm fucking happy to see it executed so perfectly all around.

I saw this one of the 1st live pre concert tour shows in Oakland & he laid on his back sobbing after the song & the band came & comforted him. It was beautiful & heavy.
This song (both parts) are just raw emotion. It is what makes Maynard such a great songwriter. In "Judith" he is angry at God for what happened to his mom, and through 10,000 days he begins to make peace.
Many times, when I'm not able to listen to this wonderful piece of music, I read the lyrics like a poem, as it really is pure poetry. I love these guys so much
This song is so so powerful enough to move me to tears when i really give it my full attention. And i rarely cry. Must have taken a lot of strength to get up in front of hundreds of strangers to sing such a personal song and nail it at the same time.
Personally I believe Maynard has just gotten over the trauma, and doesnt wanna bring it back as this was his coping mechanism, also the same reason they dont play Jimmy anymore (last played in 2002)
Got to see them play parts 1 and 2 earlier in '07 at the Fort Worth Convetion Center. I'll never forget the mood of the crowd. 12,000 people just frozen in pure awe of what they were experiencing.
I'm praying maybe when they decide to hang it up for good that they'll bless us with this song one more time and that I'm there to see it. Pt. 1 and 2.
awweeee i love this song... ...so good live... if i can only get to experience third eye live...its the only song i haven't had the joy to be there in person...
Thank you for this. I saw them play 4 days after this recording. They put on the most amazing light show I will ever see before these 2 songs. I get goosebumps thinking about it.

10'000 days in the fire is long enough. That line is probably one of the best lines ever written.
Yes Blair.
"God save the queen

Am I the only one who heard the hesitations and weakenings in Maynard's voice? And Danny's face? That emotion was very real- it got to me.
Listening to this at work = no work getting done for the rest of the day

This has got to be the best build-up ever. It took the song about 10 minutes to reach the high point, and it was amazing every bit throughout.

The build-up of "The gates of delirium" by Yes(album "Relayer") is on another level, I'm a huge fan of Tool aswell

The combination of the sounds are incredible! Drums with guitar, as vocal with bass
