I met Ace at Rock & Shock in 2011. Although he wasn’t rude or nasty to me, he did give the impression that he didn’t want to be there. But afterwards I was talking to my friend and Ace passed us and he did say hello to me

Good stories. I love KISS, but I'm glad I never met any of them. I'm thinking Bruce Kulick may be great with fans.
If Ace wanted $1000 for an autograph , I would be tempted to ask him to sign a photo of Tommy Thayer.

Eric Carr was the nicest when I met him on his last tour. I also had good experiences with Eric Singer on the Revenge tour and on a KISS Kruise. Gene was pretty cool and Paul has been hit and miss for me. Peter Criss was kind of a dick and I've never met Ace which is probably a good thing.

I never thought he was so mean. A friend of mine met Paul McCartney at the airport, and he was the total opposite. He was nice and friendly, and took the time to speak with my friend. He did not agree to a photo though, but he wasn`t rude or anything. He just said he preferred to sit there and talk and apologized. But he signed an autograph and spoke to my friend for at least ten minutes before he had to go to catch his flight. My friend was not a Paul McCartney fan before that meeting, but is a huge fan now.

I was, thankfully, never huge on autographs. I have probably lost/thrown away more than I actually still have. The growing con circuit and the ridiculous increase in prices has basically put me in "nah" territory. Jerry Only, at small club Misfits shows, signed for any and everybody for free. That man always treated fans well in my experience. I wish more people subscribed to his m.o.

Whats ironic is that in most interviews Ace brings up Gene or Paul and how its “all about the money for them” and then mentions some of the crazy KISS items like toilet paper and caskets. Then he turns around and tries to sell a pair of dirty socks for 3500 bucks and charges you extra to draw a damn star next to his autograph. Ace is by far my favorite member of KISS. I love his solo stuff, the Frehleys Comet stuff, cant wait for his next album but based on what ive seen at signings and from what ive read about peoples encounters i might would pass on a meet and greet. Then again ive heard ppl mention they met him on the street and he was as nice as could be

before the reunion. Saratoga NY & we waited for almost 2 Hours! for them to come out on Stage.
A Roadie came on stage to adjust something & the crowd cheered, The guys smiles & waves.
I mentioned it in my Ace Video. after hearing these stories I will Never go to meet him. id rather meet Andy & Amy seriously : )

Kiss is my favorite band for 47 years
Since I was 8 years old
I met Ace in the 80's and was so disappointed he was still out of it on something and he did signing for free at record store and he laughed at the picture I had him sign because he said I don't remember that photo shoot I must have been wasted he was my hero and that just sucked
I saw him last tour w Alice cooper and Ace just really sucked took my son and he was not impressed at All
He loves Alice cooper and we met Alice cooper previously and he was the nicest person we Ever met me my wife and son
There's a difference between the legendary Alice cooper and the drugged out alcoholic Ace
I love the original kiss more than Anything but no respect for fans
I've met Gene he was cordial
Met Bruce and he was super nice
All musicians need to realize how they got where they are
They have talent and have worked hard but you'd be no where without us
Sorry you had a similar experience

Hey great to see you on here (and when I run into you at Chiller!), with a perfect topic that has been on many minds lately! Yes, not only is his pricing ridiculous, and treatment of the fans rediculous, you forgot to even mention the hours and hours people waited on line while he was either signing for the VIP prepaid buyers or taking a break! We had a friend go through it and was sorry he did! There was a lot of posts about how rude he was and the pricing, too many to cover here. I've been selling off the Ace collection for years as my interest had waned with the way he treated me, but this just adds to it, and more and more people are sharing their stories. I would never give him another penny or second of my time. I truly appreciate the Chiller guests that are reasonable and happy to meet a fan! See you next show!

My wife and I had the same exact experience with Eric Singer at a KISS Expo in NJ. He was signing his photo like a robot, head down, not even looking at the fans in line, signed one photo pushed it to the fan in line, signed the next photo, pushed it to the next fan, head down the entire time. My wife grabbed the photo walked away and threw it in the trash. Alternately, we met John Regan at the same KISS Expo and he was one of the nicest guys ever.

Someday I'm going to one of these signings and I'm going to pay for him to sign Shock Me on a CD for ten or fifteen bucks. I won't pay to have him sign his name.
When Revenge came out Kiss went on a promotional tour of small clubs. They played about an hour and then signed autographs. The local show I got to go to was put on by a radio station and I won tickets. We were told they'd sign autographs but not told that it would be one autograph from one band member. I got Paul to sign my Double Platinum and while waiting for my friend to get a Gene autograph, I thought I'd try to get an Eric since his line was short and at this point nobody was in it. He refused pointing out that I got my one autograph even though he was just standing there.

Peter was hanging onto his bodyguard and acted really fearful and yet there was only about ten people around!! Anyway it was a great memory made!
Now for a total jerk The Police Reunion I meet the day after the show and I was actually staying at the Hotel (Ritz C. Saint Louis) Sting what a gentleman can’t say enough positive about him. He wasn't nasty to me personally but he made everyone wait over 2 hours because he refused to leave his room, he was mad at the venue for whatever reason. but he was rushing people and didnt make any small talk. It is what it is, some say 'never meet your hero's'. I worked for a major TV station in Canada in the 80s and a plethora of big name celebrities and musical artists came through during my time there. I can count on one hand the truly professional and amicable 'stars' who were fan-friendly and would take time to speak with their supporters. Keep in mind many of these icons of our past were most important to us during our formative years. They left an indelible memory upon our psyche and that is often the perspective from where we should admire them from.

Good video (and unfortunately true). I was at that Chiller Expo too and the Ace "drama" was ridiculous. We waited outside in line for six hours. People started getting angry over the un-organization and confusion of what was going on. "Ace lost the key to the room", "Ace might be leaving early" (after showing up an hour and a half late).. By the time I finally got to him, he was cranky and tired. I had only one item with me that needed his signature (to complete the original four), so in a strange sense it was worth it. But after that experience, I made the decision to finally be done with him. His recent albums aren't that great and his guitar playing skills have diminished too. I met him many times from the early to mid 90's and he was cool and somewhat sociable. But in recent years of meeting him, he just appears to be miserable, bitter and out of it. He's always very late too. At least Peter is very happy, social and upbeat when you meet him. Gene and Paul have always been cool to meet too. The young lady in the video was correct...."enable". I'm glad I found your video.

Agree with some of your opinions for sure. Zakk Wylde said you have to always keep in mind as a rockstar that of course you're gonna forget who tf the person was you just met seconds after, but that fan is going to remember that moment for the rest of their life, so don't be a dick! But the money thing, it goes back to that old saying "laughing all the way to the bank". Why does Taylor Swift get over $10k for tickets? Cuz she can, it's all business once you reach that level. Any true Kiss fan knows, and even Gene quoted this name himself (while wearing his cap with the sparkly dollar signs on it)..."The Kiss Corporation". And people's personal feelings are not corporate agendas. They're all coming to the end of the road and they're all gonna grab whatever they possibly can.
The best advice said in relation to all this , can't remember who quoted it but it was "don't ever meet your idol"....Words of widsom

I went to Chiller that weekend too, my first time and I thought the entire event was a little bit of a money grab. It was very cramped, and crowded and everything was MONEY...and cash only which was annoying. Didn't feel like a celebration at all, just "this cost this, etc." I went to a horror con (pre covid) a couple years ago and the vibe was completely different, much more enjoyable.

as much as the Elder but he will probably prefer to sign the Elder because at least
he played on it. Creatures was a REAL BAD TIME for Ace. That's why he said that to you

I’m guessing Ace is angry because his career is reduced to doing small events and not being popular on a huge scale like his early days with KISS. KISS should’ve wrapped it up years ago and it’s the only platform that brings Ace any real attention and money. All of that talk about the fans they used to quote is easy to say when you’re on top of the charts, but the hard core fans that are there for you when you’re doing signings and playing small halls, they are the ones you should thank profusely. They’re willing to pay your ridiculous prices for your signature and you snub them. They bring you gifts and you don’t thank them? I’m surprised anyone shows up at all…First off, I wouldn’t pay anyone for their signature, I don’t care who it is. Aces fans deserve better than him. No doubt his style was the best sound for KISS, but to be fair he’s kind of a one trick pony in terms of guitar playing. Alright I’ve crapped on Ace enough. Lol And yes I know, he’s famous and I’m not…still don’t care. Other than his first solo album (the best of the four) the rest are a yawn fest for me. Ok…now I’m done. Lol

Bands instead of being grateful for their fans . They are like fuck em let’s milk em for all they are worth. 75 bucks for tshirts .

I have been a kiss fan since 1977. However, kiss members or members of any band are just people and wont get special treatment from me. I dont see them as gods.

i'm right there with you both. does Ace , not realize what min wage is these days ⁉it would take two or three pay checks to buy one of his signed items. i hate saying this cause he was always my fav kiss member and i will still listen to his music but every story i hear about him makes him look less and less impressive.😡😡

I think the problem is? Some of these guys shouldn't be doing the signings. If they hate it? Then they shouldn't do it. Kiss might force the guys who knows. Signing stuff? I get that the rock stars feel like powerless. People selling the stuff off for big money for example. They get jaded. The guys should not do it. I get if they charge $5,000 they will be your best friend or makes it easier for them to be "fake" nice. Karma will get these guys. Difference now is fans can talk and share and we all start to know what is going on. Before? Fans didn't know who was being a dick. Now fans can share the same story then we all realize? They are dicks. Nothing hiding in the dark. To counter your point? The guys feel like slaves. Like they have to sign the stuff and you can go flip it. So the sincerity of asking for an autograph isn't the same. I'm sure they feel used. Maybe they shouldn't assume but they rightfully will be jaded after a while. Last thing. Who knows. You think Ace has the brains to figure any of this out? Could be a lot to do with the manager. Oh Ace, you should be charging this because people can flip that guitar for 3x the price. You should sign it for XX amount. Managers role...

When KISS (Paul and Gene) have stated "It's all about the fans" they mean the rich fans that are willing to spend thousands for garbage merch 🥲 Imagine buying a smashed guitar... lol

I was a huge Ace growing up. Met Ace at Crilley's Circle Tavern when I turned 21 1994ish. He was drunk and a complete shitbag. What a let down it was.

GUYS, It's not ACE!!!!!!! It's his management that charges these crazy prices
because they tell him that fans will PAY IT!!!!!!!! And guess what?? Most do, sadly.
I did the Meet n Greet with Ace in Amsterdam back in 2015 on the Space Invader
Tour, i got a sticker sheet, 3 picks , a large photo and the CD and the VIP pass.
Then we went upstairs to meet Ace and he signed 5 things for me!!
My Photo, Ego's at the stake LP, my Kiss 1977 Lunch box, solo picture Disc and
the cd. Then it was photo time! And, he was nice to us. Price?? 350 Euros. I think his manager just desided to
be more KISS-LIKE and just charge more. It's a shame, but it is what it is.

    Never meet your heroes!
Peter is really the only interesting one of the bunch.
Really, meeting them on the rise up in 76-78 would have been the best time if there was a best time. Now the Kiss legacy has been driven into the ground. Unfortunately! Ace has had some questionable public and performance issues. So that leaves us with Peter having kept himself low keyed, and.in my opinion with the most dignity.

Okay guy, stop being so over dramatic. $1,000 for an Autographed Guitar seems pretty fair actually. You know how much Guitars alone cost? And then Ace is signing it bumping up its value even more. I mean if you really want his autograph and not pay a lot why not the $50 autographed pictures? Try learning a bit about market value dawg.

    • @thewaxmuseum
      @thewaxmuseum  11 місяців тому +1

the $1000 is just for him to sign it...it doesn't include the guitar. I'm fully aware of what guitars cost I own 10 of them, but paying $1000 just for someone to scribble on one of them is insane,if that seems fair to you then go right ahead and throw the money away...I'm gonna pass. I'm all for people making money but when some fans have to miss out just because the price is beyond ridiculous,I have a problem with that. I watched a lot of people who are legit diehard fans walk away because of those prices and that's sad, dawg.

Sorry - although I have 0 access to what Ace is worth - from ALL I have read he has at least 15 million net worth. He still gets insane money from KISS even though he did sell off part of his % of the band. Claiming Ace Frehley is worth $1 million is entertainingly hilarious. Made me laugh.

Ace is a con man just like Paul and Gene, he learned from the best. Ace should be more kind especially since Eddie Van Halen played his earliest solos on demos and Ace copied them. Ace never talks about that. Yes, Most of Aces earliest solos were written by Eddie.
