- One of the most important pioneering scholars of Jewish Studies in our times, Dr. Ruth Wisse (9:40) is the Martin Peretz Professor of Yiddish Literature and Comparative Literature Emerita at Harvard University as well as distinguished senior fellow at the Tikvah Fund. Her work bridges the worlds of Yiddish and American culture, of literature and politics, and of Israel and the Diaspora. She began teaching Yiddish Literature at McGill University in 1968, helping to found its pioneering Jewish studies department. In 1993, she moved to Harvard University, where she taught until her retirement in 2014.
Dr. Wisse delivered these remarks at the 2024-2025 series of the Levy Forum for Open Discourse. The Levy Forum is a speaker series hosted at the Palm Beach Synagogue, sponsored by ACTA board member Paul Levy and ACTA. The goal of these events is to promote the epistemic virtues that ACTA seeks to promote on university campuses across the country, such as curiosity, objectivity, and wisdom.

Who brought it back? It's always there. That's like asking what brought back Israeli racism. Oh, but you can't compare!
I love Ruth Wisse, but when it comes to politics, she doesn't know her tukhes from her elbow. Or is it tokhes? Vilnish.
