- New Holy Bolt into Hammerdin strats seem a bit OP, we also had an INSANE +3 Blessed Hammer scepter this run. Got this one in before Patch 2.7, but Paladin speedruns remain unaffected by it for the most part

I know that feeling. Specially the part when 58 min of 59 min is spent on finding that 1 last remaining monster. And then you finally find it after very carefully examining every last inch of Den of Evil for 5th time.
i see it as a sign of very good game design that you are using the mechanics of the game, buying/using potions, killing enemies for experience, etc., relying on efficient decision-making instead of glitches and exploits
There was the skipping of the baal waves though, I presume it was some sort of glitch or exploit? Agree though that non glitched speed runs are far superior to the usual glitched speed runs (in every game).
What's wrong with the "shopping view", when the UI turns into an original D2 quality picture? I don't get it.

when you spam click and spam enter i think the legacy layout if more forgiving. doesnt seem to make much difference for me but im probly just too slow to notice.

Fast run! What do you recommend for HC if you have some items? Just to do that Larzuk quest as fast as possible. Have done it with sorc and holy fire paladin but still learning and my best time so far is 2 hours.

There's a slight input lag when you're in new. Old game is pretty much 0-input. You can spam old way faster. It was even like that back in the old game itself.

Shrine positions are static but the type they spawn as is not static?
Minion and champ packs are mostly static but sometimes change position? Tower was pretty consistent with the double packs for level 1-3 but not exactly the same each game, right?
Very impressive gaming Mr. Kano. How should I go about learning how maps are generated? I'm not a speedrunner but I like to build a lot of different meme characters and lately I'm really feeling unnecessarily held back by following the same "follow the edge of the map until you find the exit" pathing I've been using since 2004.
You can kind of predict how maps are generated, but its still very random. In this video you saw a combination of very skilled map reading skills mixed with luck. Like u saw in act 4. He ran around the whole map without finding the river of flame
There are hour-long UA-cam videos on the randomness and non random maps in each act. Some are 100% random (arcane) some are limited variations (nilithak) others are somewhat linear (underground passage)... Some are one direction sticking to a wall (meph runs)... And some are easy to a giant hot mess (act3)...so yeah just search UA-cam. Prepare for a long watch.

If you've played the game enough you know every single map layout there is in the game. Best way to remember the way to baal is. If its not left or right. Its always backwards it never goes straight out from the entrance.

Incredible run, noob question but can someone explain why he switches between legacy mode for shopping and the other times like the Baal waves?
Easier to buy potions with click-enter. Try it and ulll understand.
Don't know exactly about Baal waves but I think it's easier in legacy mode to locate the exact spot where ur character needs to be

Disappointed that you did not show stats screen at the end. Now I never know what your final level was. But anyways good run. 59 min after ladder reset I used to do my trist runs and would have been about find some good tomb run game. I'd imagine nm with hammerdin without tele would get a bit tricky at some point but entering to nm with sorc just 59 min after ladder reset would be cool.

@@Kano_AU Oh sorry, I meant the times in the video itself. So like next to Andariel it says 21:43, but the WR said 22:23. That's the one that confused me lol. So, the Time side was everything you did the run before then?

Has anyone done a Normal-Hell speedrun WITHOUT buying any items (mana pots, teleport charges etc)?
Yeah, there were a plenty. Ultra hardcore by llama (which included also no used healing at all, only level up healing), steel soul race 1-2 years ago (which included no vendor and no re-farming rules), different no-vendor runs (llama definiely, jymnasium probably, not sure, you can look for 'no vendor/no shopping' I think). Ah, also llama did 'chest only run' where all items were from poppables, you could not even loop drop from monsters (which is harder version you asking).
So short answer is yes. Just 'no-vendor' run is not THAT hard, you just need to select mana-effecient character (like Druid) to not be bored in early game :)
@@mapron1 Yea - I guess I'm curious what limitations would make someone NOT pick a sorceress. Looks like no buying mana pots is a potent enough limiter!
Well you can see pre-lod runs as well, where mana pots were not a thing. I personally started playing d2 with 1.02 and I thought casters are suck (NEED MORE MANA). I memorize bosses did not drop 4 pots on early patches, only 1 item and that's it (also they worth same XP as regular monsters with higher HP pool). Current D2[R] is 100x faster gameplay (not saying it's bad or good).

@@JJV7243 I did not play caster builds buch as a kind, not sure if even get past Duriel on normal on sorceress/necro. But yeah, that was a completely different game.
Introduction of mana pots in vendors did a balance shift 10x greater that all RW, enigmas, infinity and sunder charms taken together :D
p.s. imagine coming to boss fight, running out of pots and 'well, I need to have another try' S&Q, go grinding to stack you stash and inventory with those XD

Beat the game at level 1 on video with no outside help. i tried doing that one time and got stuck at Andariel. She killed me over and over.
Why remove the shield at the beginning?
Adding equipment drops your walk run speed a bit. Running naked at the start of a1 is just being efficient since your stamina sucks.
Why players throw out shield before starting?
Block animation slows you down, I think.

@lukafocu there's just several map rules you can learn to make educated guesses on the direction of where to go, act 3 is pretty much 80% predictable in Spider Forest, Great Marsh and Flayer Jungle if you remember visual tells (torches, bridges, rocks and trees) if you're curious go check out the d2 tile collection on speedrun.com/d2lod under "guides"
