I really enjoyed listening to all of the techniques and intricacies in terms of effects. Watching the show, all of the commentaries, extra featurettes, and effects-and of course the lovely actresses and podcast hosts I've heard about how much of the time especially the first couple of seasons, little things were done, in a very simple but old-fashioned way. Like after Sookies first time at Fangtasia, how when Bill opened the passenger door for her to get out, Anna's little jump of surprise was real, or when MaryAnne was cooking and the cameras were angled a certain way so the tasting spoon was swapped out, with a crew member ready just outside the scope of the scene and ran on with the second spoon (I imagine like a ball person in a tennis match or crouching like an Olympic runner on the starting block), as Michelle Forbes is vegan, the components of the blood as Anna is vegetarian. By seasons 4 and 5, there was more of the harness work and the but just hearing even more about changing as the series went from using old skool techniques to the finale, and Sookies pulsating lightball which was obviously CGI. I guess I thought at the time it was a stylistic choice (during the featturettes), but to hear about the iconic spine ripping, scene, was about the availability of a prop and the action was all physical has just added to my respect sense of awe and a better understanding of why the cast and crew, revered Denis O'Hare so much.
Did Scott Winant, ever do theatre? It's just interesting that listening to how much he was talking about the physicality, and technical/ technological advancements throughout 7 years working on a crazy but phenomenal supernatural show reminded me of an earlier podcast-I think again with Denis- where Deb and Denis, really embraced the theatre work, and listening to Scott talk about props, his vision, the respect for the actors, other people like the cameraman, the writer, costume, etc, just reminded me of my love of theatre and performance. Only at school or the occasional community theatre, a very long time ago. I think there's probably an element of me being British, and the almost rite of passage with a stint with the RSC, (home or touring), before moving into TV/film- usually a soap opera or a period piece, in the 90's when there was much more separation and less opportunity for crossovers and international cast/crew/creatives- until, the late 2000's.
I hope they can get all the seasons done. It's a shame they had to cram 2 very busy seasons into one podcast series. I was so excited to hear that you were back for seasons 3 and 4, but I guess I thought it meant the traditional 12 week structure.
Thank you wonderful ladies for bringing an extra element of the Trublood world back. I know nobody will read this in actuality But it's special to me.

Season 4 is when the wheels started falling off imo. Funny thing I used to see at my locals in my area was going to the DVD section and always seeing True Blood Season 1-3 packaged together while Seasons 4, 5, 6 and 7 were sold individually. It was almost like the people that made the sets knew 🤣I've been waiting for them to cover the later seasons just to see if they will be blunt and honest about it.
