Not that his personal life is any of our business, but this is the 2nd interview I've seen (HuffPost being the 1st) where I take away that he may or may not have been unfaithful to his wife. He mentions being in complicated relationships in the Huffpost interview and in this interview he states he's been at that point in the marriage where he was lost and total destruction had to happen. It's interesting because he plays man who is in a dead marriage and falls in love and has an affair with Maria Bello in The Sisters (2005). I don't know why I'm so intrigued about this aspect of Tony. I think maybe there is something about him that even though he is doing something so wrong (having an affair), you can't help but fall in love with him.
I have the same take. I read Tony as an extremely honest person who just tells the truth. In 26 years together, he seems to have strayed a time or two and it helped him realize that relationships become complicated once they become real-- so.you might as well stay where you are. Like you, I've heard him say something like this several times. Love his honesty.
I think complicated relations he means before before he was married. He was in relationships. But, he is no fool, if he is caught cheating he knows it will be costly, and not worth it, hence why he has stayed in his marriage.
He really did in a way segway that there had been times he strayed - like the man married young for heaven sake. 21 year old guys don't get married but he did and I'll be struck with lightning if he never did cheated. Plus, he's in an industry (Hollywood and Politics) where cheating and open relationship is a norm; add to this, his wife stays in new york but he stays in CA, don't tell me that distance wouldn't put a strain on a marriage. Tony is also easy and I've read that he's very easy to talk with as well. It's easy to fall in love with that. I read that he and Jane found a pattern on their marriage and whatever the setup was, they got the drift and uses it until today.
Tony interviews are the best. So honest and engaging. I adore Tony so much. Sweet guy.
