I decided to do something similar last week - Bubble-Coffee Dyed some papers, let them somewhat dry and then began using only Black paint through layers of Stenciling on top. Turned out to be some great ephemera for upcoming collage kits. You are right... there's nothing like Black & White! HUGS!💥
Have you ever done 'Bubble Coffee Dying'? It's fun and so much faster than most techinques... I don't have the patience for long processes. LOL @@qso3566
My first black and white turned into an entirevlarge double side envelope that I added black and white and black on white to. I couldn't stop. My sister wanted me to add color because to her it wasn't finished without color. And I got offended because I liked it it just like it was. Very abstract and I was very fond of the outcome. Still am. That was the first time, I said aloud, I am an artist.
Oh Barbara this makes me so happy! You are an artist and I'm glad you can say it out loud! And just to let you know there will be so many people who do not like your art--I'm not saying that to be unkind but rather because that means you are making authentic art. That is a huge win! I'll admit it's hard when it's family who don't get what we are trying to create but it matters more what you think. Your creative journey is unfolding!!
I agree Andrea--it is hard not to bring in color but it can be a good challenge sometimes. Or if you're feeling stuck it can be an easy way to get started. Thanks for your kind words!!
I agree - black & white marks are the best! I was just doing some b&w mark making earlier today. :) It's one of my go-to art activities when I want to do something that feels easier yet satisfying.
Thanks Pam, this was great...I have a ton of very colourful 'leftover paint' journal pages right now (I've been doing a TON of gel printing!) and I think it would be a fun idea to do black and white over top to finish them off. I really do need to be better about adding things to my art ideas journal so I don't forget about them. Hmmm, but then I'd also have to add 'read your art ideas journal' to my to do lists... 🤣🤣🤣 Seriously though, idea lists help when I want to 'art' but have no clear intention or direction. This would be an excellent addition!
I think that is a great idea Lianne--using black and white over your printed pages. Give it a try and let me know! And that cracks me up about adding "read your art ideas journal" to your to-do list!
Hi Pam, I have a question: I can't afford Golden or Liquitex paints but want to step up from the cheaper craft paints like Apple Barrel, Folk Art, and Americana. Is there a mid-range price brand that you really like in acrylic paints? I am wondering about Arteza, have never tried any of their paints but want something that is good quality with no odor. Would really appreciate your feedback on this topic. Thanks for sharing your work and tutorials!
I totally understand about the expense of artist-grade paints. They are expensive and an investment. I have never tried Arteza so I can't comment on those but probably worth a try, right?! Off the top of my head, I have used Liquitex Basics, Blick Studio, and Amsterdam Standard which are less expensive options and all decent quality.

Thanks Deborah--sounds like we were thinking about the same color palette this week. Thanks for watching!
@deborahneumann9162: Wow, that sounds like a very cool technique, will give it a try. Thank you!

@@pamhemmerling Yes, I think Arteza might be worth a try. Will check out Blick, too. Thanks for the feedback! :)
