- In the latest installment of mediabistroTV's series My First Big Break, we talk to legendary filmmaker Spike Lee.
While Lee is well-known for movies like "Red Hook Summer," did you know that if it wasn't for NBA superstar Michael Jordan and a pair of Nike Air Jordan sneakers, Lee--and Nike--might not be the icons they have become today? It all came down to a risky commercial shoot.
"So Michael Jordan could easily have said, 'I can't take a chance on this young gun, this young boy. Just give me the reels of the top guys on Madison Avenue.' But Michael Jordan didn't do that," The "Red Hook Summer" director recalls. "For some reason, he decided to give me a shot. And the commercial I did with Michael Jordan ended up being some of the greatest campaigns ever in the history of advertising and Nike took off."

Spike Lee has a lot of haters but when a person stops hating and open's up there eyes and veiw's his body of work he has put in work.

Talent is like a jet. It travels well.
He's my all-time favorite director. To me right now he's championing documentaries. When the levees broke, Bad25, other docs he's producing and directing right now. Spike is hot with the Documentaries right now
Add 1 borrowed camera. A desire to avoid the pain of having nothing to do all summer (ambition). Combine it with a D-I-Y attitude.

I wish Spike would make more films, but I understand why he doesn't. It's because Hollyweird doesn't like to tell interesting stories. They like to keep telling the same old shit over and over again which is why I hardly ever go to the movies anymore.
In 2018 BlacKKKlansman came. Great film.
Well he did do BLACKKKLANSMAN and finally got the overdue recognition that he criminaly lost out on with DO THE RIGHT THING, by winning his first official competive Oscar for Best Screenplay

How Spike has changed over the years gotten cocky and boosted his racist game up over the years 2012 - 2018. Matter a fact nasty!
Spike's movies are about his continued hate. Doesn't help. Not talented. White Hollywood gave an Oscar to keep him quiet, to quell the riot. His histrionic movies kill a good future for all.
