Impressive analysis of such an overwhelmingly emotional piece of music.

They are death bells, for a funeral. He is saying goodbye. Loved your reaction.

This whole album hits hard. Mother, Love, God, Isolation: all the light subjects! It’s raw and beautiful. The best post-Beatles album by any of the four, but emotionally draining. “Working Class Hero” is a must-listen too.

Für mich einer der emotionalsten Lennon Songs. Ein Song mit dem er seine schwierige Kindheit verarbeitet hat. Sehr emotional - klasse ❤

John’s last album, Double Fantasy starts with bells too, but they are happy bells. I’m glad you reviewed Mother.

John had a difficult and heartbreaking childhood, like me when I lost both my parents suddenly. His mom, Julia, was hit by a car and killed when he was a teen. And his father shipped off to the merchant marines when he was a little kid. So most of his childhood was spent with his aunt Mimi.

John was born in Liverpool in 1940 while the Nazis were bombing England. That first picture with his mother, Julia, would have been taken towards the end of the Second World War.

Paul also lost his mother at a young age-in his case, at 14 years old. Paul had never heard his father cry before until that terrible day. On a deeper level both John and Paul had this similarity and connection in their lives, even if each of them handled it in very different ways. So, not only did John and Paul connect over their mutual love of music, that love provided a very powerful and important escape from these terrible emotional wounds they suffered as young children.

In a weird twist of fate…the man who ran over and killed Julia lennon became a postman. And on his postal route was McCartneys father’s home on forthlin road.
When the Beatles became megastars…he had to deliver sacks of fan Mail to Paul’s father’s house
