    So I was creating a Ranger character using Xanathar's guide to make a ranger and one of his qualities is that he inhabited an ancient forest that bordered the Shadowfell. He also fought in some battles, was wounded by magic, and some of his siblings died. When I rolled for their deaths, many of them were tortured to death. I heard a bit about Netheril in the Brimstone Angels series and they were described as being sadistic. Would it make sense for my ranger and his siblings to have been fighting off Shadovar incursions from the Shadowfell?

    In the last book of the Sundering the last survivors of the Netheril shade family that were on the Shade Enclave when it fell and survived are two princesses and one prince that are Telemont's grand children that are stuck on a mount side. The last actual prince and son Telemont that survived is Clariburnus Tanthul who was in Neverwinter when this happened.

    Hello Jorphdan...I have just been watching a lot of your videos and found them interesting. Detailed but not long, which is awesome to get some good general and in-depth information. While watching all these videos I got to this one and wondered if he (you) ever covered the other floating city of Netheril (Opus) that escaped Karsus Folly. I didnt see it and wonder if you could could consider looking into it and perhaps cover the floating city that directly opposed Shade Enclave. Enclave Opus...while Shade Enclave are worshipers of Shar, Opus worship Selune. I believe the name of the city is Selûnarra.

      I am already playing with them as the main villains in a campaign that goes on for more than a year now! It's awesome so far, the most powerful Netherese (bloodline of Telamont Tanthul) survived and fled. They still need to somehow find power, so they turned to the Zhentarim, who are one of the dominant powers in the Anauroch. The Zhent provide an army and the Shade provide Shadow Dragons for the Zhentarim. This way, both parties benefit from their collarboration and they can start attacking the more fruitful lands to the West, where the party comes from.
      This campaign has everything: bit of political intrigue and corruption, Dragons, threat of war, an unstable alliance between the enemy, which can be exploited with successful espionage etc... much fun so far! My player's seem to like the setting

    • @antimatterstudios8395
      @antimatterstudios8395 4 роки тому

      grinskopf34122 Interesting, I’m going to have them trying to recover lost lore that they want to reclaim their former glory from Netheril which the characters have been hired to protect, which will eventually lead to a point where they realise that the person that they’re working for is a puppet for someone just as evil, and where they’ll have to pick a side for an upcoming conflict.
      Plans got delayed because of Coronavirus though.

    Oh, so this is Lord Shadow. In a playthrough I had we found a tower that belonged to Thultanthar and returned it to him. He was grateful, but forced us to submit. Well, me. I threw a scroll of sending to our fighter/paladin and he contacted Lathander and saved him, but only him. The other party member got power word: killed and meanwhile I pooped my pants and agreed to serve Lord Shadow so I could live.

  • @Ryan_Winter

    0:23 Ahm, actually there was a second floating city that escaped the destruction of Netheril. Its name was Selûnarra, or Opus. Like Thultanthar it was moved out of the material plane and onto an external plane prior to Karsus's folly. But instead of being moved to the Plane of Shadow Selûnarra was moved to the Gates of the Moon, where it stayed.
    2:14 As far as I know was the vast majority of Thultanthar's populace not made up by Shades. Becoming a Shade was a gift bestowed by Shar and an honor comparable to becoming a Chosen of a deity.
    6:04 If my memory serves me right then the actual reason for the Shades trying to convert the weave was that the Shadow Weave was inadvertently destroyed by the Spell Plague. I say "inadvertently" because Shar was co-responsible for that "Realms shaking Event", since it was she who helped Cyric murder Mystra.

    What do you think is the future of the Forgotten Realms and perhaps DnD as a whole with so few novelists working on the lore and history of the Forgotten Realms?

    • @Jorphdan
      @Jorphdan  7 років тому +1

      +Konstantin Krastev good question. No new novels so I think the story will be in there adventures. Maybe we'll hear more with the announcement June 2nd

    • @rightwingersexposed8800
      @rightwingersexposed8800 7 років тому +2

      On my part, I don't think the world can survive without new novels. Look at Eberron, people need those heroes and those stories as another source of inspiration.
      The authors add little "canonical" details to the world which gives it credibility. Where would DnD be without Drizzt, Elminster and tons of other smaller heroes?

    • @Jorphdan
      @Jorphdan  7 років тому +3

      +Konstantin Krastev yep I agree. The main reason there is so much lore is because the novels could flesh out the world, with characters you love.

    • @rightwingersexposed8800
      @rightwingersexposed8800 7 років тому +1

      I think we just got the answer more or less revealed, they are going to expand the world with the new adventures. I suppose they are going to diversify them more across the realms possibly involve other people that have worked on DnD into this multiverse setup.
      They are trying to force that your sessions are cannon nonsense a bit too hard, but what can you do.
      Hopefully such a rich world like the Forgotten Realms won't die the way Eberron did.

    • @Jorphdan
      @Jorphdan  7 років тому +2

      +Konstantin Krastev I hear if the DnD movie does well they may start the novels again. Hopefully they're on a momentary pause.

    Since Halloween I’ve been playing a character that comes from a surviving cell of Thultanthar who managed to salvage some research from house Orogoth.
    They attempted to recreate a dragon that was neither chromatic nor metallic, closer to Io, and thought that the key was Dragonborns, who according to legends sprung just like Bahamut and Tiamat from the ancient god’s blood.
    So she’s a very young red and gold Dragonborn sorcerer of the draconic bloodline, stuck in Barovia, and intends to show Strahd what his Shadowfell neighbors are made of.

  • @bakabaka2061
    @bakabaka2061 6 років тому

    Hate to say it but this guy needs to get his lore correct. Shar control's the shadow weave there for it is her who decides who gets to use it and experiment. She knew Thultanthar was experimenting with it but did not know it would warp his mind in little ways. It was shar who allowed the floating city to transverse into the shadow realm with the help of the casting. Thultanthar wanted to kill all the pharim and reestablish the Netherease empire however the study of blue fire items was paramount in bring back the goddess of magic as such is all history.
