Hey, I have few questions. Q1) Is dephosphorylation same as substrate level phosphorylation?
Q2) Substrate level phosphorylation takes place in Glycolysis, Kreb's cycle and Oxidative phosphorylation? Is chemiosmosis same as substrate level phosphorylation?
1) no it is not the same. it just happens at same step to diff molecules. E.g. In glycolysis, the fructose bisphosphate is dephosphorylated, and that phosphate group is transfered to ADP to ATP. ATP is formed via substrate level phosphorylation.
2) formation of ATP via substrate level phosphorylation occurs in glycolysis and krebs only. ATP is formed via...well, oxidative phosphorylation in oxidative phosphorylation. Chemiosmosis is involved, i.e. formation of ATP is via a steep conc gradient across a membrane and ATP synthase. Chemiosmosis is related to oxidative phosphorylation, not substrate level phosphorylation
