Ingredients:
* Toor dhal - 100 gms
* Turmeric - ½ tsp
* Tomatoes (chopped) - 1 no
* Ginger - thumb size (chopped)
* Rasam powder - 1 tsp
* Lemon juice - from 1 or 2 lemons
* Whole black pepper powder - ½ tsp
* Green chillies (slit) - 3
* Coriander leaves - 2 tsp
Tempering:
* Ghee - 1 tsp
* Mustard seeds - 1 tsp
* Curry leaves - 1 sprig
* Salt
Method:
1. Pressure cook toor dhal along with turmeric. Once pressure releases, mash well and pour dhal/lentil through a fine sieve. Strain.
2. Dilute this lentil in 500 ml of water.
3. To this lentil water, add chopped tomatoes, slit green chillies, chopped ginger, rasam powder, whole black pepper powder and salt.
4. Switch on the stove and bring this to a boil. Do not stir until the rasam begins to boil.
5. Add half of the coriander leaves and bring to a boil.
6. Add lemon juice and reduce the flame to simmer.
7. In a separate wok, heat ghee and add mustard seeds, asafoetida and pour this tempering over the rasam.
8. Garnish with more coriander leaves and serve hot.
Note:
* Variation to this can be made using Pineapple.
* In place of tomatoes, add chopped pineapple pieces.
* In place of lemon juice, add pineapple juice and a tsp of sugar.

Love this version. But we would always love to hear your tamil version with nativity touch. Especially the conversation with your mom. Its a delight to watch that .
Awesome.....
But when you do cooking with your Amma please keep it in Tamil only....because the slang, the love and cute argument between you people doesn't sink in English.........that always goes good with mother tongue only.
The way your mom call you Rakesh is very beautiful no words to express.
Thanks a lot guys. The tamil episodes will continue Ammavum Naanum and Rakesh Udan... This is a different series - Cook with Rakesh Raghunathan fully in english

Thanks Rakesh for making this video in English. Although the directions are in English, I feel overly interested in understanding the conversation that you have with your Amma. I'm sure that it has additional tips and that it's precious cause of the mom-son equation. It makes me want to know Tamil just to decipher the conversation 😄

Good sir

Can you please share the recipe for rasam powder
Lime in aluminium pan is it ok?

Missing your MOM.
Hi Mr Rakesh
Can u teach us how to pineapple rasam
அருமை
Thank you tomorrow dwadesi🙂
We don't add tomatoes for lemon rasam..You have to relish the tangy taste of lemon rasam fully..
Tamarind takes time to digest !
We miss the tamil and your amma and the tamil conversations. There are many websites offering recipes in English. Atleast can you not retain your authenticity ?
This has nothing to do with authenticity but to also share it to an audience that does not understand tamil
Rakesh Raghunathan Sorry what I meant was lot of those interesting conversations are lost in translation. I should have not used the word authenticity. See what I wanted to convey also got lost in translation :-)
@@ramavv1 You don't have to sorry sir, you just said ur view he always responds bit harsh only, never mind just leave it
