However you wanna say it. I still can't believe this thing is on Switch, do people not remember the Krypt? WILD.

    There is a Mexican Mortal Kombat clone called "Kombate Mexicano X".
    I bought a copy of it when I went to the EGS (a gaming convention that had support from big brands) like 16 years ago in the indie section that was behind the important booths, the person demoing the game was actually one of the developers/actors who was digitized into the game.
    I may still have the game somewhere in my old CD collection.
    As a Mexican game, it had mechanics inspired from King of Fighters, references to corrupt politicians, pop culture figures, and El Chavo, plus a ton of albures.
    I loved bringing it to the IT classroom in high school, where we would play it while the teacher wasn't looking.

      My country had one of those, but it was a flash game full of the "memes" from that era plus some foreign, legendary ones like Edgar (from "La Caída de Edgar").
      The one you mentioned, how was it about the budget? Did it look serious although the themes and references or was it more like a fun, one-time little project?

    • @manamaster6
      @manamaster6 4 місяці тому

      @@CristianNavia0807 it was closer to Mortal Kombat, as the fighters were digitized actors.
      I don't know the budget it may have had, but it was an entertaining game with around 20 characters, but I may be misremembering it.
      It can still be found online.
      In their official page, which is now offline, one could download fighters for free, as back then downloading the full game at once would have taken a while, one could download one by one.

    Street Fighter The Movie The Game deserves some degree of mention. While everyone involved seemed to be on a completely different pages as to exactly what they were making, at least some of those involved viewed the game as Capcom attempting to copy the look and success of Mortal Kombat.

    • @Invidente7

      It was supposed to be Street fighter 3 at some point, and Sheng Long himself was almost in the game. At least they had Akuma.

    • @BainesMkII
      @BainesMkII 9 місяців тому +3

      @@Invidente7 The SF3 story has been debunked. It was apparently a misunderstanding on the part of some people at Intelligent Technologies.
      Capcom USA had denied the claim all the way back at the beginning of 1995.
      Polygon's oral history article is even more telling. Not only does everyone from Capcom Japan deny the idea (instead it was viewed as a spin-off), even some of the people at Intelligent Technologies deny it. While Alan Noon said he remembered the game being pitched as SF3 and even found a design document that called it such, Ralph Megosa said Capcom never approved that name and that it was likely just an (IT) internal development label.
      That's what I meant when I said everyone seemed to be on completely different pages as to what they were making. While some people at IT thought Capcom was looking to outside Western developers to "save" the SF franchise, Capcom Japan was just dumping off a project (making a game based on the live action movie) that they *didn't even want to make.* The whole reason SFTMTG exists is apparently because the president of Capcom had first wanted a movie made for a Capcom property, and then wanted a game made for the movie...

    Fun fact about Eternal Champions: “Bone Thugs-N-Harmony's 1995 album E. 1999 Eternal, was loosely inspired by the video game, not just in title, but even as far as the use of samples, such as the character bios theme for "Eternal", and the bad ending theme being the basis of the original "Crossroad", which would later be remixed, becoming the group's biggest single and earning them a Grammy.”

      Many imitators but no true successors or equals. Say what you will about mortal Kombat but it had a look and feel that it nailed perfectly. And though a bit wonky by modern standards it's still comes up on top compared to the absolute Dollar store knockoffs that mostly came up against it.

While it might feel clunky by today's standards it's deep story telling for the tournament modes made it an amazingly fun dos alternative to Mortal Kombat or Street Fighter 2 (for a single player). If you had the ability to use 2 Gamepads it could also be very fun with 2 players even if it wasn't as deep on a mechanical level. Ran on everything and had a shareware (and then freeware) version. Free vs the 50 to 60 Dollars Mortal Kombat was at the time made it an easy choice for me. And damn it's soundtrack is full of bangers

    This video unlocked a core memory. I bought one must fall 2097 from the discount bin I’m the 90s and it only worked once on my pc with no sound. Never got it working again and tossed it.

    I loved the character "Larcen" in Eternal Champions. He was a bad ass to my young mind, reminding me of a mix of Batman and Dick Tracy (Dick Tracy being a game I also played a lot of the Genesis.)

    Those Jackie Chan games are actually really good, they seem chunky and just button smashers at first, but if you keep at it, there's actually a very interesting combo system that's hard to describe but eventually you catch on. Play as that Chinese New Years Dragon thing first if you want to learn it.

    Also, congrats on 10 years! I discovered and subscribed to you because of your Babylon's Fall video of all things since I got the platinum trophy for it before it closed up shop. Been loving the videos ever since.

    This is the most blood I’ve seen in a yt fighting game vid, way more than the dedicated fighting game channels. Even the doods who say they won’t edit out the gore but still do. Just give chaos acid pee fatality from primal rage.

    Well this was a great video it’s just entertaining seeing how absurd some of these clones are, when their trying to be taken seriously, and overshadow Mortal Kombat, when most likely they won’t, and will just be laughed out aside from Killer Instinct, for the most part, though Midway, trying to create different games with similar vibes is pretty passionate, also holy shit bootleg slender man was really throwing hands got daymn, i won’t lie that sequel terrordome had me cracking up, but the Ash, in the original boggieman goes hard as hell. Now this type of video being made again makes me wanna see you cover Half Life, clones, Metal Gear, clones, Crash Bandicoot, clones, and Jak 3, clones, in terms of being vehicular combat games, which i could definitely see Roadkill, being in that video it’s just a insane game, that i think would fit right in with the weird stuff you cover, Austin, also a wtf games video would be awesome to, since you do specifically do weird, and forgotten games on different consoles, but that type of game would be like crap you can’t even comprehend, like that don’t even have a weird novelty to them. Oh, and congrats on reaching your double digit anniversary, Austin, it’s always crazy to see UA-camrs, i throughly enjoy reach milestones, and i’m not to sure when i subbed to you, but I’d definitely say i really got into you during your uploads through 2020, to now, and i do deliberately plan to watch your stuff when you stock up on videos, so thank you for the unforgettable entertainment kudos to you my man Austin.
