    Sprong will prove to be an excellent acquisition for Vancouver.. Sprong was one of the best players of the Red Wings, despite his very little playing time, when the team was fighting for playoff spots.. for example, in the last game he scored: 1+1= 2 points +/- statistic +2 and playing time ONLY: 8:44..

    "if he gets 15-20 goals he can be as bad as he wants on defense"...
    Tocchet's doghouse is impossible to exit if you are not sharp and work hard on defense, ask Kuzmenko.

      You know I was just gonna quote Lego for saying that and say a lack of defense is UNEXCEPTABLE!!! if he's gonna be a Canuck he needs to buy into our new system or goodbye. We can't except half assing it

      Oddly enough, Tochett said that Kuzmenko wouldn't have been healthy scratched if he was still scoring, but because he's not he HAS to play the system well.

    I'll be surprised if Sprong ends on on the same 5V5 line as them. PP, yeah likely. But hey, I don't know the Canucks system as well. I'm just a Wings fan, so I know Sprongs goals are clutch and fun. Dude can score from anywhere. If he puts more effort into Defense then maybe he can earn top 6. At the end of the season him and the Wings systems just weren't mixing. He was benched a lot. I wish the best for him.

      Tocchet is no nonsense about being able to play a 200ft game. Kuzmenko got traded for not being great at it. Sprong's offensive ability will give him a chance to be looked at in the top 6, let's see how his effort and 200ft play improves under Tocc. He's going to have the benefit of playing with an extremely well balanced defensive minded team around him on any of the 4 lines

      @armaansohi4829 We still need a Top 4 D Man but we have No Cap Space

      @@conservativeamber1216 Canucks have added enough forward depth to be able to potentially move out a guy like Hoglander or Podkolzin in order to bring in a defencemen IF they end up needing one. We'll see how that 3rd pairing ends up playing. If it struggles early then you can expect PA/JR to make an early move like they did with Zadorov instead of waiting on it

    I saw a video a while back digging into Sprongs stats arguing that he was one of the most undervalued players in the league

    Wings fan here. Followed Sprong’s interesting career for awhile now. His defensive game isn’t bad. I’m thinking there’s another reason why teams never re-sign him. Maybe it’s an attitude or character problem? I hesitate to say this as I haven’t seen any evidence of it, but he’s a solid middle 6 guy who can give you goals. He’s fast and has a bullet of a shot.
    Sprong was buried on a deep Pens team, then bounced around. Was hoping Stevie would sign him again.

  • @sucraf1
    @sucraf1 Місяць тому +4

    Like I said before, teams gave up on him for a reason. Canucks gave him the best or only offer. I hope he now has a chip on his shoulder and is going to prove the rest of teams they made a mistake not signing him.

    He needs to be on a line that can hold their own defensively. Would be interested to see if he gets slotted in with JT/Brock.

    I would like to see Sprong be on the third line with Blueger and Podkolzin to start the year. Podz needs a chance to prove himself and he and Blueger are both capable defensively. I think this will complement Sprong's skills set (good on offence and poor on defence). This will help Podz too which I think should remain a goal for the Canucks. This would allow the team to trade Garland away for some D help.

    Another NON signing by SY. Sprong was great having played only 11-12 minutes a game. They said he was D poor - well he scored 43 points and was -5. And signed for under $1MM!!!!!

    Hard disagree on good offence being enough. But he sounds like he at least wants to be competent offensively. If he does that then he likely makes second line and his numbers and minutes likely go way up.

    Don’t know anything about him. I hope he plays a physical game and can keep up with Petey’s passes. If he can’t play with Petey then this was a bad signing. If he can then hooray. Maybe he will fit in on the 4th line and pot a few goals.
