Maybe I’m wrong but I cannot possibly ever associate myself with a club named after a corporation. It just feels so dumb. Could you imagine an entire league of this? “I support the Tucson McDonalds”. MLS cup final “Buffalo Coca Cola Club vs. New Orleans MasterCard” it’s just ridiculous.
Jersey deserves its own team imo, other than the Devils it doesn't have much going for it. I reckon if Red Bull renamed themselves RB NJ they might lose some fans from NY state, but they'd gain a lot of new fans from jersey. Plus everyone in NY that hates the yankees would probably still support them.
@@alternatehistorysports New Jersey isn't a profitable name, unless there's a state law to mandate it (and that'll probably also have a negative impact on the NFL teams too) Red Bull would never put the New Jersey name on the club.
Part of me is glad the MLS didn’t take the rowdies name... there’s no guarantee the Tampa team would have survived and if it failed GG, the rowdies name is gone forever locked away by MLS trademark. While the current team hasn’t reached the fandom that they had back in the day (19,506 average va current like 6,000 average) and has its own issues I’m glad they exist in the USL and as long as they continue existing I’ll be content
That one last game you showed at the end of this video is probably the biggest achievement the Redbulls could make in the last 20 years. 20 years 0 cups.
There are *several* NASL team names that really should have been continued in MLS besides the obvious Cosmos and Rowdies... Dallas Tornados, Toronto Blizzard, LA Aztecs to name but a few... It's been *long* time to move on from just slapping the same 2 silly letters or a nonsensical "united" in front of a city and calling it a day.
Yeah I felt that way too, but when you think about it football clubs are just corporate entities anyway, they already have sponsors, and owners who have money from other businesses. So I think that Red Bull clubs and city group clubs feel contrived, but at the same time it becomes part of their identity as fans of other teams will laugh at them for it, and they will defend their club. In cases like Metrostars it's interesting that the identity of the club remains even after the original corporation has gone bust. There will be a whole generation of young kids who will learn about Red Bull the football club before they are aware of the adult/ teen energy drink (hopefully!)
who the hell identifies with an energy drink ? let's not pretend that the team is not an obnoxious billboard for an energy drink . they have done everything positive that other clubs are doing except for 1 crucial thing : they replaced the former club's history , tradition & identity with an energy drink . & that's wack af
Do rbny need to win an mls cup to solidify the "success story" or are they already a success story because of the 3 supporter shields in a small amount of time?
1:40 If that is so then why did MLS get Vancouver Whitecaps, Seattle Sounders, and San Jose Earthquakes from the NASL. Apparently this TB Mutiny guy doesn't know his MLS history.
Futbol Galaxy San Jose Clash was the original name. It was done so to avoid any ties to the NASL. The Caps and Sounders joined when people embraced the older names and all the history they represent. MLS 1.0 was a strange beast to say the least.
Not exactly the same. Dons weren't just re-branded, they were taken away from their London supporters. MLS clubs that have moved (like the first MLS version of San Jose Earthquakes, which became Houston Dynamo) are more comparable. Metrostars fans still have a club and have mostly been willing to embrace the re-branded team. #NYisRed
@@frenchchicken2799 It's safe to say that in the three years since I first posted my comment, things have really gone south between RBNY management and the fans (not that they were that great to start with, but it's definitely worsened recently)
Hell Im proud to be RedBull supporter, but they really need to get at least some Portuguese players, Ecuadorian players, Peruvian players, Brazilian Player (I know they just signed Fabio) on the team because they have such a huge soccer community in Newark, Harrison, and Kearny that can easily fill up that stadium if they have anybody with those nationality, Seriously, I want that stadium filled up every game and not just in the Playoffs, also if they can put the prices down for membership that would be great Also thank you for doing this video, it always so awesome to see your content, and gives me a whole new look at the MLS and USL
@@Robin-ws7ej FC Red Bull Salzburg exists. Rasen Ball Sport Leipzig (aka RB Leipzig) has that name due to Germany strict rules. Every other club they own has the name Red Bull in it (well, other then Fussballclub Liefering, also in Austria).

Well to be fair it was called the NY/NJ Metrostars aka the metro area which includes Parts of Northern NJ, NYC and Long Island and parts of Upstate NY and Connecticut.
6:20 this aged well...
They are trying to go back to what they used to be. The only MLS to do the double on a debut season.
lol thought the same
@@AIfactos1 what are you saying?
Metro was for the NY Metropolitan area, not subway.
Yup. Like the the NY Mets...
Like the New York Cosmos - Cosmopolitan
Empire SC would have been awesome!
No sounds cheap
Ironically, the supporters group is called Empire Supporters Club (aka Empire SC).
I love how passionate you are. It shows
I hope they don't change Chicago's crest look what happened to Nashville's
How about now?
This aged well
Whew nice timing.
Original metro stars crest>>>second metro stars badge>>>>>>red bull branding
I was part of the original Empire Supporters Club (from year 1) and stopped following them when they became RedBull. I still support the Cosmos.

MLS needs a rebrand itself.
“If they changed the name and logo of the fire”that didn’t age well
The Nippon Ham Fighters are my personal favorite branded team name
Dude it’s the metro area. The metro stars idk what u don’t get there
And the new stadium is in NJ.
How I so wish that the NY Cosmos were in MLS. Yes, including NYCFC and RBNY, they all three can share NY/NJ. #COSMOSTOMLS

Watching a video from a year ago and before the Fire badge change. I feel for you man.
Great video 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
I like them. Yeah I don’t typically go for teams named after sponsors but I love the bull imagery and all that.
THEY DESTROYED THE CLUB. PERIOD.
Sorry that they changed the Chicago crest, dude.

Should be called New Jersey Red Bulls

I saw it happen .. I am getting old.

I agree, I am sick and tired of Uniteds and City FCs.
Red bull can't even get fans in the stadium now
Can we just be renamed to the New Jersey/New york Dalmatians I like the team
Metro Stars = NY Metro Area. Easy to understand the name.
Any thoughts or extra info on the new Chicago Badge?
Metrostars > RBNY
Bring back the metrostar name
2020 the Fires Badge is change 🙈
The rebrand stole the clubs identity. Doesn’t feel like an authentic soccer club I don’t care how nice the stadium is

Sorry to disappoint the Chicago Fire faithful but the re-brand is imminent.
way i see it the metrostars accomplished shit, so i'm fine with the rebranding, more of a fan now than before it.
