Tips in harvesting:
Any forms of wood (tree, wooden furniture or wooden blocks): use stone axe, fireaxe, steel axe or chainsaw.
Any forms of ores (iron/lead/stone/coal/nitrate/oil shale) as well as any form of metal/stones (metal/stone blocks, asphalt, cooblestones, concrete, metal fences, metal bars, safe, metal chests, etc...): use stone axe, iron pickaxe, steel pickaxe or auger.
Any forms of soil (clay soil, sand or snow) use stone shovel, iron shovel, steel shovel or auger. You may also harvest sacks of cement, cobble stones, nitrate and corn meal using shovels/auger. Lastly, you may harvest farm plot as well.
Some electric appliances, leather chairs (pick this up and scrap it for maximum leather harvest), leather/clith sofa, bar seats, bed racks, lavatory, metal sinks can be harvested using: stone axes or wrench, ratchet or impact driver.
Use axe/chainsaw in harvesting mattress, any forms of plastics, and some paper blocks.
In harvesting wild plants or farmed plants use bare hands or knife for faster harvest.
Use knife in harvesting any forms of curtains for cloth or sometimes scrap polymers or use axe if harvesting tents.

What if you give all your books to one guys . Ex: Armor book . So he can craft you guys some gud t6 armors. Legendary parts are ez to find in clothing racks/piles ( savage country store )
It used to be possible to fill your water pots at a lac or river, but they took it out with an alpha update. You can mod it, tho.
You can still do that with the water buckets. That's the best route to take. No mods needed.
