- A team of researchers in the Varanasi Lab at MIT has developed a way to create nanoscale emulsions, of oil and water, stable enough to last indefinitely, and with no mixing required. (Learn more: news.mit.edu/2017/new-way-mix-...)

The Massachusetts Institute of Technology is an independent, coeducational, privately endowed university in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Our mission is to advance knowledge; to educate students in science, engineering, and technology; and to tackle the most pressing problems facing the world today. We are a community of hands-on problem-solvers in love with fundamental science and eager to make the world a better place.
The MIT UA-cam channel features videos about all types of MIT research, including the robot cheetah, LIGO, gravitational waves, mathematics, and bombardier beetles, as well as videos on origami, time capsules, and other aspects of life and culture on the MIT campus. Our goal is to open the doors of MIT and bring the Institute to the world through video.

I was doing research at the University of Oklahoma and they were already doing this 3 years ago
Better u can buy mixing agent it will combine both water and oil together
excellent .thank you
That was oddly satisfying.
MIT is always cool on invention.
Hi, I would like to thank you for this wonderful video and I would like to ask you about the best food emulsifier for palm oil and what is the ratio of emulsifier to oil
For a normal emulsion process, mechanical energy will be required to break down the size of water in oil. In this particular process, water is heated up to become steam (ENERGY) to accomplish size breakdown, then condense to micro drops of water. Before they have the chance to meet and coalescence into large ones, they are coated with surfactant molecules and settle to the bottom in oil.
I wish I knew the details to duplicate!
So basically a working on veggie steamer with a vessel with oil+surfactant inside could replicate it??🤔
@Massachusetts Institute of Technology, May I asked what is the Background music of this source.
Our cats really like this video! It needs to be about an hour long though!!!
Hand lotion, shampoo, toothpaste, etc, etc. I've never seen any of these separate after 'just a few months'. They seem to be very stable.
This Ha been one of the videos that I have found for so long.
All of these amazing videos are but one aspect of why I'm coming for you MIT!
somebody help me how to break the mayonnaise emulsion?
Ohhhhh i can't wait to go here!
Who knew condensation could change the game. Btw gravity is unable to separate them because of Brownian movement right? Just curious about it.
Devansh Royal I always thought it's due to different density & the non polar nature of oil (hydrophobic) but idk man I'm just a high schooler
Gravity is responsible for the denser material to be lower when the two liquids separate, i guess!
Yes
ayy lmao so, it's not due to non polar nature of oil?
like o2 in h2o, there is no surface tension between each other of them
Surfactant name plz??
What is the surfactant made from? Whatever it is, I don't think I'd want to eat it.
I'll just stick with shaking the jar really hard.
I am now doing research on mixing oil and water. How can I get further information about it or how can I get advice from one of experts.
If you have to ask how to get further information, then you are not a good researcher.
Great idea. I just wonder if it could potentially lead to issues down the line like with other nanoparticles in recent years.
Hopefully not. It would help in a lot of industries. Preferably not food since the issues it seems to cause to the gut flora and inflammation risk. But who am I kidding, of course the food industry will be all over that.
Name of equipment used for condensation
Please need a name
Super
Yummy processed foods!
Or just use lecithin
Can I ask u question in private?
How much quantity of lacithin is used
Doesn't always work, it'll seperate slowly
hah looks like cait and vi are finally getting together huh
Nice..
Varansi lab mit?
TANAY PATEL no no
Massachusets
I learned this shit in cosmetology school 😂
This is a mixture of Oil, Water and a soap like substance. lol
How it can be used in drug delivery?
i have an water - oil emulsion in my motorcycles motor. and its not separading... no labatory needed xD
Such a complicate process. We make water soluble oils in both water and powder forms without any special equipment
Not a clishe. Its more of an idiom or an analogy
said absolutely nothing🥰🥰🥰
You could do this... but why? Why? Why would ya do that?
Cuz of energy consumption, time spend in the factory producing the product, labels of expiration ,remove products that becomes un stable again and phases get oxidized.....
Could this be used as a fuel, 50% water, 50% oil. If it works it might help with the extreme consumption of oil.
I'd assume that would separate the particles?
Canna make hash with that? Lots of delivery issues with natural cannabinoids...maybe this is an alternative to lypholyzation tech, n whatnots
many companies are doing liposomes or nano emulsions , but with time they separate . so they don't work for beverages
Has science gone too far?
adding soap water.... Sreiously......We've learned it in elementary school
This isn’t new and they didn’t mix water and oil can NEVER MIX WHEN CAN YOU GET IT RIGHT
not new....BOOOOO!!!!
@arcane
I'm in denial from that line in Arcane
