Great video! I'm a machinist by trade, and I am in love with KURT vices for milling machines. These look good for practical work on site for repairs, but I'm just the type of person that brings things back to my shop and finds a way to put them on a milling machine to work on them. Again, THANK Y OU for these videos, and for the good banter between you and your lovely wife. Always fun to watch your videos. I hope you guys get some sort of residual income from these videos somehow. I don't know how that works, but I know that I'm addicted to watching your videos. God bless.
Thanks Daniel. Yes we get a small amount for each video but we did videos for years for free. By having ads in the videos it offsets the price of equipment we purchase including camera gear. It don't sting so much when we go to purchase that stuff when we need it. Each month we get paid for the videos we share. We don't show it much but we do a fair amount of machining here at the shop. It's been an essential part of the business along with fabrication. Most of the stuff we show is fast moving video making material. KURK is the industry-standard when it comes to mill vices hands down. The ATV vices we were showing here are basically out in the field type of vices. The Wilton stays in the shop while the Maximum will most likely stay with the mobile welding unit. Thanks so much for watching and commenting. Kathy and I love the name Daniel. So much we actually have a younger son Daniel. Bless you and yours my friend.
Good for you! Glad to hear that you're getting a little something to offset the costs of video production. That is as it SHOULD be. Keep making videos! I'm loving them!
i'd love to see an "shop tour" of your shop it looks to be loaded with excellent ideas. i'm an young adult and would love to get into this type of work when i'm older. I'm also new to the channel and i love your work and videos. I will for sure be a regular form now on. Keep up the good work Paul.
Paul you have earned more than 48 hrs and that's without a heart attack. I still have about 400 of your videos to watch so don't feel pressure to even make videos (ok health updates are much appreciated) let alone fab and fix stuff. I took a walk around last evening after a hard day and realized I had to drive away to stop working. That hot mustang you have probably needs some exercise after all this. And give my thanks to Kathy for all her hard work in this. God Bless. Greg
That's a good comparison. For the money and for no more then I would use it I'd have to go with the Maximum. I've been wanting a bigger vice. I'll have to let my fingers to some walking. Thanks for the review. Enjoy the week end. God Bless. Levi~~
Just learned the good news of your improving health, good luck You are both probably sitting around recovering with your Ipads looking at comments (NOT). Helpful to know that some reasonable cost tools are out there. Good video and God Bless. Greg
Actually that's what I am doing. I'm still pretty week and was told to take it very easy. Do nothing for 48 hours and then proceed cautiously. That's what I'm doing. God bless you to buddy.
Very cool, great comparison in between them, looks like a very nice product on both. Looks like the newer one the jaws open further too. Not sure, but on camera it looks like it, thanks guys for sharing. Stay safe take care. Family & I say hi to both you guys. lol
Hi one of my customers had one of those hitch vices bolted to his wood framed implement shed post, I'm guessing as pig iron is his favorite store it was the one they stopped selling . I was there one day and he asked me about putting some parts back together on the screw mechanism. When | started looking and figuring it out, the casting was broke to. I wonder if they could of had problems with the quality of them, As we know there is some junk comes from the P.A store. With the odd hidden gem thrown in sometimes. If I had some spare cash this week i'd go buy one of the Canadian tire ones, I got a few of their mastercraft tools I use hard and have been good for the cost. I have a worn out bench vice bolted to a receiver now and this looks like would be ideal to replace it. Only 1 of my farm customers has a "decent" vice in his farm shop, so i'd test it real good on some jobs..
My thought is , Do both vices hold things tight while working with them . If it holds the work tight , and i do not have to keep tightening the vice up , then i like it no matter how much it was .
"Surmising" now that sure is a step up on marmalade bro, normal program will now follow. Really enjoyed this vid guys it gave a good viewpoint on either vice plus plenty of banter. Us folks down under must be part Newfoundlander as some of your sayings are pert near exactly the same, who would have guessed. atb to you both. 14 hours without rain, I wonder where it all went.
Oh were real lucky and got a burst all of about 30 seconds this afternoon but turned cold after it. You may laugh at this but the wife watered the garden today, yeah I stood there scratching my head too, lol.
I think what's going on with your wife is what happens to mine. They get out in the rain and get wet. When they get back to the house and by the heat they warp lol.
Compare the important stuff like the screw threads, jaws and the real technical characteristics that actually make a difference. I know wilton uses acme threads but what does the other one use?
Hi Paul, thanks for the info. You covered just about everything. But you measured the opening of the Wilton jaws at 5 and a half inches. But you did not measure the opening of the jaws of the Maximum. It looked like it may have opened further. It may not and I don't want you to think I am nit picking but was just interested. You gave more than enough information for anyone interested to decide between the two. Maybe I can find the Maximum online with it's dimensions. I do appreciate the comparison.
I'm sure I said the measurements that were written on the box but just in case I didn't. www.canadiantire.ca/en/pdp/maximum-hitch-vise-6-in-0579026p.html
I think he meant the maximum vice, and how big stock you could fit in the claws. The Wilton opened up to 5.5" The Maxmimum seemed to open quite a bit more.
Canadian Tire does " NOT " Honor their Warranty ,,, I found out the Hard way after spending Thousands of Dollars per Year at their Stores ...!!!!! I will never Shop at another Canadian Tire as long as I live...!!!!!
After seeing the details of your videos, I had to subscribe! Very good topics and coverage of many great subjects! Thank you Paul and Kathy!

Great video. Regarding the warranty, the Wilton carries a one year limited.
Thanks.

Thanks buddy. These are great for field work and yes they can be used in the shop with the supplied adapter. I think they are both good. Keep well.
My biggest vices don't weigh anywhere near that much. . . . . But Then . . . .
They were Hand Rolled in Cuba.
lol. That's a good reason ;)

Good thing you got that CT vice when you did. As I was watching this vid, got on CT's app & it's no longer available :-(
Damn...there's two at the Duncan store. I know where I'm heading to tomorrow!

Good post and I agree 👍
Cool
Thanks buddy.

Amazing how much we use the same words. 14 hours without rain. Man you better call for a water truck lol.
Oh were real lucky and got a burst all of about 30 seconds this afternoon but turned cold after it. You may laugh at this but the wife watered the garden today, yeah I stood there scratching my head too, lol.

Maybe that is where prunes come from then, I always wondered why they keep things moving.
Lol. You may be right 👍
I had a HUGE vice for 30 years or so I got rid of it six years ago!!.......CIGARETTES!LOl😁
I was looking at a Welton 8" bench vice the other day but $800. 😳

When you get YOUR comparison video completed send me the link and I’ll take a look at it.

Paul, also found Wilton Truck Vise on Amazon.com w/o case for $174.42 US. with free shipping.
Didn't measure the other one because I said the size based on what the box said it was.
I'm sure I said the measurements that were written on the box but just in case I didn't. www.canadiantire.ca/en/pdp/maximum-hitch-vise-6-in-0579026p.html
No good for me as a Canadian.
Hey Paul go to northern tool and check out the vice there, Price is 149, 00 Wilton🤔
Remember, I'm in Canada. Shipping crazy, duty crazy and duties absolutely nuts.
Oh if we buy from the US we have to pay $1.31 for ever American dollar. So it will cost us $195.64 for that $149 Wilton just on the exchange. 😳
Paul Short That suck, But like the video👍👍
Thanks John.
How much did the one from Princess auto open up to?
Open up to? Princess Auto/Welton ATV vice $319.
I think he meant the maximum vice, and how big stock you could fit in the claws. The Wilton opened up to 5.5" The Maxmimum seemed to open quite a bit more.
