1963-03-30 : Jose Gonzalez 158 lbs beat Rubin Carter 160¼ lbs by TKO in round 6 of 10
Location: Madison Square Garden, New York, New York, USA
    Referee: Petey Della
    Judge: Joe Armstrong
    Judge: Al Berl
Rubin Carter has a very strong 2nd round, but suffers a cut over the right eye in the process.
Rumored Carter suffered from a detached retina in his right eye from this bout with Gonzalez, and fought on despite the eye issues not having the eye problem addressed so as to continue his boxing career. A prison fight shortly after his incarceration in 1967 in which he was hit in the right eye made his right eye worse. Carter claimed a lack of immediate and proper medical care to address the eye in prison caused him permanent blindness in his right eye after an eventual operation which attempted (and failed) to correct his detached retina.[[1]]

@@too_sturdy Those drugs were found in the Olympics which if you actually knew your sport history. The PEDs were highly used by the weight lifting Russians in the Olympics and slowly trinkled down to sports like basball, football and so on. The very last sport to actually get PEDs was boxing which boxers started using PEDs in the 80s. Hurricane Carter by simply looking at him shows he didn't have any form of PEDs in his system. Boxers were extremely poor and couldn't afford any form of PEDs. Again like I stated they tested for PEDs in those times and most if not all boxers pre 80s used none. Do you know anything about previous boxing eras on how they train and diet?
