To me, it looks like someone did a poor reno on an old barn to make it livable. It's not a fixer upper, it's a tear down.
We purchased the worst condition house in a desirable historic neighborhood. An elderly widow lived in it for decades after her husband died, just drinking her days away. Neighbors told us that she was often found wandering the neighborhood in a drunken stupor at three in the morning; they’d take turns bringing her back home. When she died, her kids sold it ‘as is’; however, there were so many obvious lies on the disclosure statement that we got them to reduce the price just to walk away from the liability. We knew it was in bad shape, and our contractor took on the project with the assumption that it would be torn down. The city condemned it, and didn’t send us into a stratospheric ‘new build’ property tax because we were essentially rebuilding the house to blend in with, or complement, the existing original housing stock of the neighborhood. We saved as many historical elements as possible, such as doors, interior chandelier, exterior light sconces, and a manual rotary 5-bell door bell outside the original servant’s entrance. Yeah, building codes were fairly non-existent 90 years ago. So much was so wrong with that house. It was scraped down to the ground and rebuilt to a fine residence.
How would anyone even consider buying that?
I wouldn’t need an inspection to know I’m not interested
People will buy anything.
I hope the smoke detectors are brand new, because they're going to need them sometime in the next few weeks it seems...
Oh there are spirits alright. Whatever spirits Joe handyman swigged down before working on the house.
when you were in the basement and the lights went out did you hear a little girl scream? and realize it was you? :)
Ir was nice of the sellers to tear down the interior ceilings so you could inspect.
Nice video showing all the major issues quickly! ❤
Market it as a house to keep your weight low because if you gain that whole floor is going to collapse.
Reminds me of some "clubhouses" my friends & I built out of scavenged materials when we were 11 years old.
If you need an inspector to tell you that this house is garbage then maybe just keep renting 🤭
Probably listed for $1.2M.
I wish you could come to Southern Illinois and inspect my house. I am honestly afraid to pull the paneling off the walls in my finished basement. I have no idea what I'll find!
That was never safe from day one. Also, who wants a fixer upper in this economy?
Hell, the squatters vacated as soon as the strobe lights started sounding like Rice Krispies cereal!
Removable stairs are a nice feature if you want to install a french drain. I'm almost jealous.
😂😂
Stop sticking your fingers in strange cracks!
I'll bet if you checked the actual foundation you'll find that there is none. Gallon of gasoline and a road flare with the fire dept standing by for a practice run
This is what a scab looks like when it itself scabs over.
You pointed out all the negatives but ignored one positive that jumped out at me immediately. At 8:30, that shop-vac nozzle appeared to be in good condition and could still be used for its intended purpose. It's probably an orphan since the vac escaped long ago.
Seriously the only thing I saw wrong with that house was there was a lightbulb out 😂
That "house" is a death trap. Needs to be condemned and razed. You're a brave man for even stepping foot in that shack.
I’m an old lady and I don’t know what it is they were trying to hide. It’s all so bad that even Ray Charles could have seen it!!! Yikes!
Who needs a home inspector , I can see it’s a great house 😂😂😂
This property is condemned. Man, you took a chance touching that well head!
begs the question, i suppose, if something can be seen, is it hiding?
And people today are buying houses without inspections hand over fist in an effort to get the house before somebody else, buys it out from under them!
This is an example of when a builder has no concept at all of structural integrity and just wants to "make it fit".
That house seems like a steal! Built by the top carpenters, & using nothing but the best material! /sarc
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
The wood basement wall was probably openings for an integral garage.
Why in the world would you even need to higher an inspector to know this should be demolished?
If anyone buys that for anything but a tear down, they are crazy 😧
Run!
It's a house of cards!
Giv me 10 years I’ll have this house tip top shape 👻lol
Can this place even be fixed? It looks more like a tear down & start over.
How do you pass an insurance inspection
Is this for real? You'd have to pay me. What is the asking price for this gem?
"What is the asking price for this gem?"
if you are asking for a price, then you cannot afford it! /sarc
Just another Rustic Diamond project in the ruff Shack that was built before they required any permits. The fake board and batten siding has a huge Nope---butting the vertical batten into the horizontal trim at the bottom edge of siding has no, zero, nada Z flashing. @1:57 you can see the batten bottom already rotting. And there should be an air gap along the bottom edge of the siding so it doesn't sit in any water. They did the same damn thing on my friend's home. The former owner put great gobs of silicone along the horizontal butt joint. Seeing silicone everywhere is a huge red flag. I didn't mention it to him bc I don't want to be the messenger---that's a Big Nope for me. @2:04 that is more than a step crack---it is an offset step crack----NOPE!
Isn't this just an old hunting lodge or something?? It certainly was never a real home with a foundation, maybe in someone's eyes...
Why did these people even consider buying this house in the first place? People can just squat in way better places to smoke their crack.
The place is a match job!
I've stayed in hunting cabins with a nicer kitchen.
that would be 560k as is. the price is firm i know what i got!
they tried to repair the home themselves.
Is that Dale Randall's house?
🤣🤣🤣
You didn’t die so the house is safe enough!
Damn, they are out here trying to sell a crack house.
Stay away from block foundations
Are those temporary? I'm 38 and I feel like I've seen those supports in basements all my life.
Nothing is more permanent than a temporary fix lol
@@porkfatrules6025 so they are legitimately supposed to be temporary?
@@adaml5851Correct, they should be replaced with concrete core lally columns.
@@adaml5851 it honestly depends who you ask and what area you’re in.
Some people say they should be one solid piece but in Canada they’re allowed to be adjustable as long they meet certain standards and max loads.
@porkfatrules6025 That explains it then. I'm in Alberta, lol. Thanks dude!
Zestimate million dollars and the owners want 1.5 million
Turn your phone
Caveat emptor
Looks like the Spanish have been hard at work. AGAIN
You called a staircase a balcony but still insisted on calling the builder names.
Try to maintain professionalism and you will garnish more credibility.
The house has issues but for the right purchase price they are all easily addressed. Builder with over forty years experience
It’s an old house. Needs work. Maybe the folks who used to own it were old and couldn’t the work. A lot of this stuff is exaggerated for clicks
No, the footage definitely does not indicate an exaggeration. That might be normal for you Huckchaw Jones, but the rest of us in civilization like to be safe.
@@Kudeghraw you would have an anxiety attack if you saw the houses where I live then. It’s never a home inspector’s job to tell
Someone not to buy a house. They are only supposed to report what they see.
@@odavis1364 I wouldn't have an anxiety attack because I am not one of the younger generations that think they would perish from a paper cut. I don't care about your comments regarding the inspector. My comment was countering your claim that this is exaggerated and you have no defense other than "It’s never a home inspector’s job to tell
Someone not to buy a house." I mean where are you at? Not here it seems.
@@Kudeghraw you obviously do. You replied first
@@odavis1364 Yes, a reply. A far cry from the "REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE" that your generation likes to do. And at the end of this conversation readers will know that it is you that exaggerated abut the exaggeration.
seen tobacco barns in better shape
Just run away.
I realize your making a video here to show us all this stuff but when doing a home inspection on a dump like this I stick to the main point which in this example is mostly structural or at least that is the biggest issue, add some photos of the worst offenders and refer them to a structural engineer and mention that the place does not appear to be structurally safe in your opinion. No need to beat a dump like that all to hell, let the engineer do it. People buy stuff for different reasons and can have a different reference then we ourselves have so I don't get worked up or excited and just stick to the facts. Someone could be coming from living in a vehicle, under a bridge or who knows and may have came into some money so this place to them is paradise. I don't want to poo poo on that if that's the case but I do want to let them know its not a safe place and a structural engineer is needed. It does look like a bar that someone tried to make a somewhat living space out of, it doesn't look like an actual home.
Get the camera out of your face!
To be honest, not even worth the inspection
